18 games into Mario’s Regime

Mario Cristobal's seat is not warm. Nice try though.

It's not but we lose a LOT of talent next year, especially on defense. I honestly don't see winning more than 8 next year and we'll lose one of our coodinators after next year which means another year of a new system and possible 7-8 win season. That's 4 seasons of mediocre results compared to the investment. It may not be warm now but if we continue on this trajectory, it will be in a year or 2..

From a talent standpoint, just don’t see how he gets us to a position (top ten program) commensurate with his pay over that period. This recruiting class is nothing special. Too many holes to plug through the portal, no depth in key areas, a major QB problem, and a roster relatively devoid of top end talent. The fact we’re in this position in the NIL era while having big NIL support is even more concerning, because I think we’ll likely be less competitive with NIL as time goes on. Really think the guy needs to strike gold with a QB to have any chance to get to an ACCCG by 2025.

Add that to the fact that we'll be changing over the roster by the tune of about 30 next year and it's a constant cycling in and out of players until Mario gets "his guys".

I like Emory, but as a 2025 QB. IMO, the key is getting a portal QB for next year.

Team is much better today then it was at this time last year. When a point comes that is no longer true, we can discuss hot seats. If the team implodes the last 6 games as OP suggests, we can discuss hot seats. But not after 6 games this year when the team is clearly much improved, albeit we’re all frustrated with the last 2 weeks.

Let’s give the guy at least 2 seasons before we all go insane. The next 6 games tell a huge chapter in the Mario story here.

Do you think if we assembled a staff made up of our last six head coaches -- all in the prime of their careers -- we'd be able to win the Coastal?

Betting odds would read:
Yes +1000
No -10000000000000000

You think he’s on the path to building a championship roster? That’s really what he was hired to do. And I sure don’t see it. Losses this year wouldn’t put him on the hot seat, but it’s reasonable to forecast he’ll be on it end of next year given the dearth of talent and quality depth on this team. When he was hired, I knew he was a meathead coach. But I thought, with reasonable NIL support, as well as a very competitive staff budget, he would have built a monster roster by year 3.

...But - it won’t happen. We’re stuck with Saint Cristobal for 5 years minimum. I’m not sure where to go after this performance, as I can easily see the team folding and losing five or six to close out another underachieving year. The hype was just that - again. And most of us fell for it.
4-8? Easily?

Yeah, I'm no where near there yet.
You've got to at least give us a 50/50 ball with the NcSt, BC and UVA games, no?

Only the Russian judge prevented you from getting a perfect doomsday post score on this one :ROFLMAO:

I believe the fold started with the inexcusable worst loss in the history of the team….I'm not saying we would have won at NC…Because they were just better than us the last 30 minutes of the game. I'm saying when GT happened it left a scar and doubt in the kids head…It's easier to follow when adversity comes, tougher to trust the coaches and process. And now the pressure is through the roof. How do you bounce back from that loss with a bunch of games against teams that are good or slightly better than you? 4-2 doesn't sound anywhere as good as 5-1. 5-1 with a loss at UNC is still momentum

That loss is leading to disaster on this team unfortunately…One of the most idiotic, painful losses you will see in sports.

I think that part is very much TBD. I know the 2023 roster is much better than the 2022 roster. Can it take another step in 2024? Again, TBD. With the amount of turnover, nobody can really say. But yes he has to recruit better than he is currently. I’ll wait to see how the class actually finishes and then who comes in the portal.

He also recruited a really good class last year (on paper) that is TBD. What if Malik Bryant is an NFL player? What if Samson and Mauigoa are NFL bookend tackles on the 2024 team? There are holes to fill, for sure. I just don’t think anybody can talk hot seat a year and a half into a tenure. Especially when we’re 4-2 and played the football to be 5-1. But the last 6 games play a huge part into this. Do they rally and go 5-1? Do they fold and go 3-3? That will tell you a lot about the trajectory going forward.

I think the 2023 roster is better in some aspects worse in others. however, theyre both making the same mistakes w a new staff. offense is better. defense is better but theyre still undisciplined and poorly coached in points throughout the game. the first 4 games skewed a lot of our views based on the soft schedule. well see If we turn it around

In no aspect is the 2023 roster worse than 2022. Maybe at TE? But Arroyo is hurt, he’s on the roster. Maybe at corner? Tyrique and DJ were drafted, but Porter has been excellent. At every other position it’s the same or upgraded.

Also, nobody was fooled by a soft schedule. A&M was a very good win, full stop. Especially with Weigman. They lost to Bama and Tennessee on the road in one score games with a backup QB. That defense is absolutely legit. Is it the most impressive win possible? Of course not. But we beat the **** out of them when they were at full strength, we had every right to be excited about that.

We didn’t play well against GT, but found a way to win. Then our coach invented a way to lose. We played well for a half against UNC (who is undefeated by the way), and then coughed the ball up twice and got steamrolled with an exhausted defense.

We’re not great yet, but we’re better. If the team plays with the same intensity on Saturday, but cleans up some penalties and maybe just doesn’t commit totally unforced turnovers (I know, a lot to ask) we can beat Clemson. If we do, the season really gets back on track. If we don’t, look out.

were worse at DT. were worse at CB. were even at RB. were even at WR but the WR play overall is better.

again, this team has made mistakes all year. why do you expect itto change? this is who they are. they dont play a clean game against p5 teams. we are better than last year but the p5 slate will tell us how much better. so far its a MEH bc we've looked undisciplined and stupid in 2/3 p5 games. atm was a good win for sure, but wasn't a clean game at all since we spotted them 2 TDs. luckily, our O was on one when the run wasn't working

Even at WR??? We ran Mike Redding and Frank Ladson out there all year. Like a week ago all 3 of our main receivers were some of the highest graded players at their position in the country. Last year the whole room got expelled from PFF University for having a 0.0 GPA. Come on man.

were playing the same kids from last year at WR. so theyre plying better but the room and roster itself is even based on who plays. Harrell doesn't ever get burn

Are you being for real right now? We’re playing the same kids? You’re a smart guy, I can’t tell if this is schtick or not. Did Colbie Young play a single snap in the first half of the season? Didn’t Restrepo miss basically the whole year? Did Jacolby George catch 10 passes? This is an absurd post.

This was always going to be a multi year rebuild. If by the end of next year we still look like this then he needs to be shown the door.
Lincoln Riley, Josh Heupel say otherwise. Even Venables got it together. Dan Lanning's Oregon would probably murder Cristobal's PAC-12 (recency bias, but still)

look Im talking about roster - collie young played last year. George played last year. restrepo got hurt. but all these kids were on the roster which is my Pont. I did say theyre playing better, but the room isnt more talented than they were last year. theyre being coached better by beard and in a more friendly offense which is a huge diff. I had us going 7-5 preseason bc I dont have faith in the coaching. theyre proving me right so far. I thought maybe if the O stays hot, we can go 10-2 9-3. I dont see us getting there as everything is being exposed (offense and defense) since conference play started (tho the D was great against GT until the final possession)

I’m most impressed with Venables. Dude is a machine.

Did you forget about all of the talent in development on the team. Did you notice Daryl Porter, Anez Cooper, Colbie Young, Jacolby George's development from year 1 to year 2 with this staff? Do you really think Francis, Pancake, Ray Ray, Bain, Damari, RWilliams and others are going to sleep all summer? Come back next year and suck? I don't have the same chicken little outlook you do. But I could be wrong.
