15 million

A coach who’s never won a championship just made 15 million a year. He was reportedly making 3 million at ND. Well if that doesn’t completely ***** the market and make our 20-30 million dollar investment look like nothing.
Brian Kelly was making 3M in base salary plus a cut of TV money. He was making (reportedly) a little under 10M in total compensation, but I guess fluctuated annually depending on TV money.

Wonder if there will be any $ left to pay the recruits? Because you know they are going to use that as a bargaining tool… 🤦🏼‍♂️

I think when the real details come out that the Kelly deal will be closer to $10 mil/yr vs $15 mil but it definitely does seem like Michigan State acting insanely to keep Mel Tucker set this market.

That said, a good coach will be worth this money despite schools still trying to cry poverty as they renegotiate tv deals and are about to expand the Playoff.

These schools have had the money for years. It's just that other people have been lining their pockets with it instead of the coaches who deserve it. M. Tucker's contract signaled the beginning of all of this. His contract basically said every top coach is underpaid and if schools didn't give those coaches raises themselves, someone else was going to. Whichever schools recognize this change first and adapt will be the ones with the top coaches. Any coach who listens to $$ is available to anyone willing to spend it.

Agree there is extra money but it’s laughable the coaches deserve it while the players get 10k and a Dodge Charger.

They didn’t necessarily say how theyy we’re spending the 20-30. They just said an extra 20-30. for staff salaries, that’s good. for facilities, it’s nothing.

That 20-30m amount is not for anything capex. That’s all opex (support staff, etc).

When I first heard 20-30m number being thrown around, I interpreted that as being the minimum. If they’re offering that much right out of the gate, I’m sure raising it to $40m is in their plans. Jmo
