11/12 Update

Y'all are gonna be really disappointed.

Just like Golden didn't get fired last year, Butch is not getting hired this year.

They are absolutely not hiring a coach who already has his exit strategy in place before he's coached a game, or especially, secured a staff.

This thread is pandering to the masses, IMO, and the OP has given enough caveats to wiggle out of this post when we hire someone other than Butch.

About the only thing that might be accurate is that Butch has been so aggressive in his pursuit, combined with fan support, that he's now a legit candidate to be a fall back option.

But this scenario is like recruiting. The coaches UM REALLY wants are still in season. So, they can't go after them, and those coaches can't be active in their pursuit of the job. But when they've played their last regular season game, their interest will increase. And from there, they'll decide who really has a legit interest, and who's using UM for leverage.

I'll state again ... If this university hires a coach who NO ONE ELSE wants, be it Butch, Chud, Schiano, or Cristobal, it will be the laziest and most uninspiring search ever ...

If Blake James hires Butch because Paul Dimare tells him to, then this athletics program is finished! What the **** does Paul Dimare know?

There is a reason why football owners, who sign the checks, hire front office people to make these calls.

SMH ...

Butch is not getting the job, IMO.

And if I'm wrong ... It's over for the program.

A place built on innovation and pushing the envelope would be hiring a 65 year old guy who doesn't innovate or push the envelope. And if the OP is accurate, he's already got an exit strategy, and thinks we should hire a guy to replace him who went 27-47 as an HC, and was 3-9 in the year he was fired.

I simply can't believe the people making this decision will be that lazy to turn the keys over to Butch and Mario, hoping 1 guy is the same as he was 20 years ago, but hoping the other guy is significantly better than he was 5 years ago ...

He is 63. And saban is 64. So if saban said miami i want the job, you wouldn't hire saban?

So Uche wants to be at UF but they don't have a spot for him due to waiting on Manuel and others?

My guess is Devon Studstill and Devin Singletary for the silents unless they are from other classes.

he has had 5 years of rest and studying too.

Will butch fire Swasey? Any coach who comes in needs to can him.

+1 Million. If the next coach keeps Swasey we'll continue to get our a$$ kicked at the line of scrimmage. That guy needs to go too.

Most of the players that leave for NFl come back out to work with Swasey. Golden came in with his own plan to make the players fat and slow. That's not on Swasey

Butch will get the all kids that keep leaving to other schools like Alabama, if he brings in good coaches with him its a lock to bring us back where we want to be. Comparing him at North Carolina to now at miami shows you just don't like Butch, i really hope he is hired GO CANES

Butch turns 64 this year. Will turn 65 during the season next year.

If Saban wanted to come to Miami, I would have similar concerns. I believe the reason Saban didn't take the Texas job last year is because he didn't want to press re-set at his age.

Keeping the train on the track at 65 is different than building the track at 65 ...

And beyond that ... Butch Davis is not even close to being the football coach Nick Saban is.

Butch is more "Mack Brown", than "Nick Saban" ...

Y'all are gonna be really disappointed.

Biggest myth in Miami history. Some of the skill players come back and work with Swasey. Name me a lineman that does. He is ok with Speed and Agility training. That's about it. Also South Beach and good weather play a part in those players coming back as well.

Butch Davis would have beaten Oklahoma in 2000. The 2001 team and 2002 which was screwed were basically his teams. the guy was positioned for 3 straight national titles.

Butch took the BROWNS to the NFL playoffs. I would love to see Saban do that.

Problem is some of you dont remember the mess Butch inherited. he didn't even have enough guys here to practice, was left nothing from erickson, and was learning on the job as HC.

Appreciate the info, Geo.

There has been an idea that has floated around and I've heard it and I don't know much their is to it but apparently the school wants to make it seem like they did their due diligence in a coaching search but have made up their mind on Butch. I can't confirm that, that's just a rumor for now.

Now this part may **** a few people off. Butch has interest in bringing Mario Cristobal as HC in waiting. If Butch were to be hired, he won't be here for a long time. Apparently Butch has a plan and vision he has set in place on fixing Miami.

I hate every word from this quoted excerpt. Butch is an appealing candidate, but it would be the height of stupidity for them to want to make it seem like they're conducting a thorough search rather than actually doing their due diligence. Typical UM laziness and incompetence.

And Mario as a HCIW would be horrible. Absolutely horrible.
This x100000

I wanted a real search to get the absolute best candidate possible. I also don't want Mario as HCIW. Disappointed.

What also sucks is if it's not Butch it's Chud.

Sounds to me it's the other way around. We know Butch wants the job and is available. A lot can still happen keeping Chud in the NFL depending how he does the rest of the way in Indy. If Chud stays it looks like Butch.

This is what made Miami. Golden tried to turn us into a big ten team, even tho we had some of the fastest players in college.

Or maybe he's more "Bobby Bowden", who was Butch's age right before he won the first of his national championships. Actually, outside of the whole age thing, he is not Bobby Bowden circa 1993. He is a significantly better recruiter and developer of talent. Miami is not the place coaches come and stay for 30 years. They come here, build national championship teams with the conveyor belt of talent down here, and then they move on to the NFL. In Butch's case, he'll have a good 6-7 years and then hopefully become our AD.
