10 wins

4 easy games to start. 4 easy games to finish. 4 tough games in the middle. A bowl game. Top 10 pick at QB. 10 wins if Kaaya stays upright.

Give Kaaya a steady running game and the use of play action for a change. That should help keep him upright.

Yep, that's what I have us at - 10. I mentioned this in another thread but in the past few years, we've fielded horrendous defenses, completely inefficient offenses on third downs and a horrendous coaching staff that repeatedly handed games to opponents and we still managed 7/8/9 wins. Now, we arguably will have a much better defense, more effective offense and a much better staff and folks here still think we can't exceed 8 wins? Smh

some good points on here regarding attrition due to injury and youth. although i think we should go 10-2, i could see us losing one more game. on the other hand, the counter argument is that richt and kaaya will make up for it, given their "special and elite" (cf. the WEZ) talents. said differently, coaching will win games for us that we might otherwise lose because of injury and youth, which is how it should be.

IMO, it was slightly more so that App St. played great (especially defense) than UT played bad. UT was #9 playing a nationally televised primetime game opener, pumped up at home and App Sy brought it straight to them.

My only true concern is their running game, their RBs get north and south really fast with no hesitation and pure intentions.

Very well-coached team all-around and fundamentally sound. They must have great position coaches. After watching last night, week 3 was a sure-shot loss by a Golden led Canes team.

We must protect the ball to win this game, and I think we are going to be surprised by how well the LBs play this season. We have to remember who they don't have experience being coached by. There's a silver lining to their lack of experience.

At what point did App State play great?

Did you watch that game? They scored twice on lucky drives setup by lucky plays and played like scared girls for the rest of it.

Tenn was horrible on offense. App State had a three man rush and basically played prevent the whole night. Kaaya would put up 400+ on that team throwing underneath to our TEs. They also burned them deep one time and never went back to that again. Tenn was obviously scared to put the game in their QBs hands. We dont have that problem.

richt calling plays again is a serious problem. his fsu offenses and early UGA teams beasted on people

I am so excited to watch a well coordinated offense execute. I wouldnt be surprised to see Richt just pound on a couple of the same plays if the D cant stop it. He will find the weak spot and unmercifully repeat until they figure it out and then he will adjust.

This will be a breathe of fresh air to see someone who knows how to attack a D.

we only play 4 teams who could beat us - FSU , UNC , ND and Pitt. IMO we drop to ND and thats it . I think it will be an ugly loss as well but it will refocus us . I also think Clemson beats us by a TD in the ACCTG.

My expectation is minimum 9 wins.

However, every team on our schedule aside from famu, fau, app state has handed us an L relatively recently.

Yes, I know I know..Golden, Dorito, blah blah blah

UVA 14
NC State 08
Duke 13
GT 14
Pitt 14
UNC 15
VT 13
FSU 15
ND 12

9-3 is what i'm going with.. hopefully that 3 allows us to get in the ACC champ game, and we NEED a bowl W of any kind.

us under golden whenever we had a 10 point lead.

I've got us losing to ND and one other team. Possibly, UNC at home, possibly VT on the road with a short week. Either way, we're going to Charlotte- hopefully to get in that FSU *** for a second time and a surprise 12-2 season.

I can't expect greater than 9 wins, specifically because of our depth. Also, I don't know what these players will do. I believe in the coaches, I need to see these young man carry a desire for greatness within themselves.

Lot of offseason koolaid drinking going on in this thread.

VT has the same 5 day rest period as we do. It's not an advantage for them. No reason to lose to them this year, even at lane stadium

@GT: playing GT always comes down to avoiding any turnovers. If we do not turn the ball over and the offense doesn't place the D in compromising positions, then GT cannot beat a well-coached Canes team. Games like these (the ones we are supposed to win) are the epitome of why Richt is stressing turnovers so much. If a QB or any player for that matter, is loose with the ball, U will not play. A lack of turnovers is the way that U avoid loses to teams U are supposed to beat.

FSU (Home): Jimbo is scared now that his mil ticket Golden is gone. FSU was just beginning to shed that lil brother feeling and lump in their throat about playing Us, and being out-smarted no matter their talent advantages. Like others have accurately said, Golden could have beat them with 1 or 2 adjustments the last two seasons. Richt has the ability and awareness to make those adjustments. We are back to defeating them off of their insecurity and our intelligence alone. OC Coley never established play calling rhythm against FSU, so our running game was never sincerely meant to work successfully. It served as a mask or different look for our passing game (which was always the focus). Running the ball, is how U beat FSU, and Richt knows this very well! We win.

UNC (Home): Like previously said, the stadium should be rocking for this one coming off of a FSU win, and I believe that an FSU win is vital to an emotionally charged win against UNC. Emotion will be needed because this is the game where our legs will begin to feel heavy causing our mental focus to sway, and our lack of depth to show. Coaching and direction will be at a premium in this game and if we win it, Richt is definitely the man. Avoid turnovers, everything must be perfect this day. Toss up.

@VT: This is definitely a trap game for me. This is a Kayaa game and I say go deep to Berrios and Coley early to silence Lane Stadium. We'll need a special teams to be lights out as well. Avoiding turnovers is imperative in this game, Kayaa can manage this one to win if the d-line is still effective. I think we lose this one by a field goal, as our lack of depth finally catches up to Us. Very close game and can go either way.

@ND: I believe that any UM team fielded on a Saturday afternoon with adequately capable and intelligent coaching stratagem can only be beaten by a team with superior talent, depth, and similar to better coaching than our own. This is the reason why I believe that the @ND game is the only for sure loss of the season. Our defensive lack of depth, the refs (intangibles), and road atmosphere won't help. Also, the QB and coaching comparisons are even, if not, slightly favored towards ND.

I'm cool with at least a 9-4 season, despite my predictions.

This is a 5-7 at best, season under Golden, so please don't even try to set lofty expectation levels for Richt in his first season just to somehow save Golden's face. Richt doesn't have to do anything to justify Golden's firing. It necessitated itself.

No he isn't. Nobody with a team that talented is scared of Miami, but they will be. Soon.

One thing that legitimate coaching should suppress immediately is the coming up small against teams we should beat...ie Duke, UVA. With Richt leading these guys we will not see any of the basic in-competencies that would have us coming up short in situations where no Miami team should come up short.

The big issues are obvious - lack of experience and depth at linebacker, an OL that was a walking turnstile last year, a lack of depth in the secondary, and now a depleted DL which we all thought would be one of the strengths of the team and could potentially mitigate some of the depth issues in other spots on D. Those will become glaring issues in that 4 game stretch in the middle of the year (hopefully the DL will be back at full strength by then though). FSU, UNC, @ VT, @ ND would be brutal for anybody, but the depth issues are going to be a problem in the midst of this stretch.

I still don't see Pitt as a real threat, we were 100x better than that team last year, and despite the return of Conner we are still a better squad. The other games should be W's. So that four game stretch is make or break as we all know.

FSU and UNC should provide their own motivation based on recent history - I certainly hope the team remembers going to Chapel Hill and getting punked and ***** slapped and mocked last year.

Not sure what to expect out of VT...the last time in Blacksburg we kicked their ******* ***, but of course that was one of Duke Johnson's signature games. Duke Johnson ain't walking through that door. But it's also important to remember that Kaaya was a freshman. He won't be fazed in that environment.

@ ND? Yikes. But those are the types of games that kids go to Miami to play....

I expect us to beat the teams we should beat simply because we have a real coaching staff now...so that four game stretch tells the story. My expectation is 9 wins with 10 a distinct possibility.

kryptonite, U believe Jimbo will be scared soon, and I believe that he is scared now lol!

clg003, I believe they played great the entire seeing that are grossly over matched talent-wise and playing the #9 team in the nation at their home and on Thursday night. They were supposed to win that game, anyone who watched it, knows that. What U have to do is not just and simply speak in hindsight, U never expected that outcome. They were a 3 touchdown underdog going in.

Your opinion is based off of how U want to feel about them going into our game against them. Unfortunately, that won't help Us win that game.

U said they played prevent all night, but then was surprised that UT didn't go deep on them all night.

Dudes trying to hard to be disagreeable.
