“Check with me” Offense - negative for younger QBs, leads to worse output

Some good points here. But I would say this. Even those playcallers that do that, don’t do it all the time. Usually a critical down, or they get a “tell” about something at the last moment. But they don’t do it every down. If they do, they are micromanaging imo. It also shows that you aren’t teaching enough. You don’t see NFL teams doing look at me at all.

You are right that tempo is a key. I would practice it a lot in practice because that’s not something you can employ unless you are well versed in it. Then you just running around like chicken with head cut off. You can be methodical calling plays taking time off the clock without look at me too.

Our issues are more than just look at me. Its play design and calling appropriate route concepts based on the strengths of your players and the weaknesses of the teams youre playing. You should know all this before the game.
Exactly, if you do it every time, what exactly are you getting? The D isn't going to show you anything because they know it's changing. This offense is just pathetic to watch. Literally nothing good from it at all.

Facts.

I’ve seen the defense show a look so many times this year then we check with Gattis then the D shows a different look lol. It was always a dummy call. This guy is nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is.
This! The defense won't just sit still as you adjust to what they showed 😂. Then it just confuses the oline because they have way less time to look at the new defensive set up. There's a time and place for check with me or giving your qbs a little freedom and giving them a couple of audibles if they see something they hate out there

I’ve been telling everybody this, including strangers who don’t care and people in my life who are tired of humoring me. it’s alarming that we have so many analysts on staff and would still be rocking with just a basic tactical disadvantage like this.
Yeah with all the extra funds our game plan should be stronger than it is if we had enough analysts studying the tendencies of the other team like Bama or even Clemson with how they learned other teams call signs 😂. We always seem to be the dumbest team/staff no matter who we play

Our qb’s are remote control dummies out there for Gattis. No sliding protection or audibles. It’s amazing how far we’ve fallen with qb play and trusting them. At least TVD could slide protections last year and that explains why the pass blocking was so much better.

This was apparent in the way Gattis switched QB's during the FSU game.

1) Putting a true freshman (Brown) into the game on the opening drive of the FSU game right after TVD completed a couple nice throws.
2) Putting Garcia into the game on 3rd and long deep in our own territory and asking him to make a play.
3) Sitting Garcia for a quarter and a half then putting him in the game cold on 3rd and long and expecting him to be in rhythm.

I sat there in stunned amazement at how inept Josh Gattis' QB management was. The guy has zero understanding of how to create momentum. His disjointed play calling it another example of that.

I knew it.

You can see all this on tape.

The quarterback has no shot to protect himself from a bad call and it cost us our starter. Thankfully, this experiment will be over soon.
