The dirty secret about Georgia is that their talent has fallen off. They have players but lack true impact guys. Kirby Smart should be a COTY candidate for winning the conference with that roster.
I’d say most of their talent is better than average, but not elite. I’d have to check the NFL draft projections, but I don’t know how many bulldogs are rated to go in the first or second round compared to previous seasons.

💯

They remind me of us 2005/6 and after when we were a big star ***** but the culture sucked, kids were all out for themselves, and a lot of the guys were overrated talents.

I'd say Bama or Clemson qualifies far more as the equivalent of '05/'06 Miami - teams where the players were just there to go to the NFL and practices are more or less a country club, and where the coaches coast off previous successes.

UGA's "worst season" in the last 5 was missing out on the CFP in 2023 even though they went 12-1; that was also the last year of the 4-team CFP. They're not as dominant as they were, but they're still a really good team that's held back by Mike Bobo.

I was talking specifically about the talent, meaning the players. I see where I worded the culture part badly (sorry it’s late!). I was just referring to the culture of kids who are only out for themselves. For a time back then, we got stuck recruiting those types, and UGA has a lot of those types as well.

But yes, I absolutely see what you’re saying as well and I do agree with you. Your point about Bama and Clemson also makes a lot of sense. The Clemson one particularly intrigued me, especially because Dabo just canned their OC and a lot of their fanbase is getting a bit unruly.

But do you see Dabo as running the country club akin to how Coker was? Or do you just mean that things are falling apart? Curious to know your thoughts on what their future is.

I mean that Clemson seems stuck in the past, just as we were in 2005 where coaching-wise we were stuck with the boring, plodding Coker-T offense. Most of Dabo's staff are former Clemson players, and it creates an atmosphere where innovation doesn't happen.

I don't think Dabo isn't working those guys hard in practice, but it just seems like Clemson isn't what they were in 2015-2020. Unless Dabo has a Damacus moment when it comes to the portal and innovating the program, Clemson is gonna be what we were - mediocre and irrelevant.

Alabama does seem to be a victim of the country club mentality, look at Indiana mauling them! DeBoer is a good coach, but there's a softness and lack of physicality with his Bama team that the Saban teams never had - notice how since Deboer has got there Bama can't run the ball.

Okay, yes. I definitely agree with all of that. Will be interesting to see who Dabo hires for the new OC. I was surprised that he didn’t make the change earlier.

And absolutely! I honestly didn’t even think they were going to make it past OU though, so I wasn’t really that surprised to see Cignetti do his thing. 😂
