Zach Carpenter: On gameday, it's a "controlled rage"

If you want an offensive lineman, the Midwest is a pretty safe spot to shop. Miami went to the well with C Zach Carpenter, an Indiana transfer (and Michigan signee) who originally hails from Cincinatti, OH. Carpenter spoke to reporters about the transition and spring practice:

On the decision to come to Miami: I had a lot of good memories at Indiana and everything, but just needed to change the scenery. Miami's definitely that.

Both schools have their pros and cons, but I just I think here it's more OLine focused.

On his personality on the field: I just try to be as calm as possible, stay in the moment. Sometimes you get caught up in emotions and start ******** up, so you gotta just focus and be the same player every day. I think everybody has their own style of leadership.

I’m super chill on a game day. I mean, it's supposed to be fun. It's a game. That's why we do it. It’s a controlled rage.

On the difference between Miami’s defensive line and Big 10 defensive lines: There's a lot more speed. But that's good. It's good to face different competition and show I'm versatile.

On the toughest defensive line to face: Rueben Bain, for sure.

On his fishing trips: It's been cool. I haven't really fished on the ocean before. The fish are a lot bigger than bass.

Just my opinion but center is still a very undervalued position both in college and pro. You see all the tackles get the big $$$ - but the C touches the ball on every offensive play. Like @JHallCanes said - big shoes to fill with Lee. We got really lucky to have him (Lee). Always need a good snapper!

I listened to the interview. It was a nice one liner. But the reporter pushed him into manufacturing it. Kept asking how he was different from Lee and how he could be such a nice, quiet guy off field and still be a fighter on the field. Kid is reallllly mellow.
