I don't think Lyle is fully healthy. He left the game vs ND and hasn't looked sharp since. He's running with hestitation and tentativeness. I wouldn't be surprised if the ND injury aggravated a prior issue.

He's playing because there's no point in shirting RBs unless medically unable to play. They have limited shelf lives, are mostly fungible, and are likely transfer candidates.

We’d be 8-0 and ranked #1/2 with Cam Ward this year
More than likely yes but we don’t. But the question or ponder to me isn’t whether Beck is as good as Cam, he’s not by a large margin, to me is it are we running the same plays under the same parameters? We’re slower pace/tempo. Gives us no time to change or audible out. Cam changed a ton of plays last year. If he was forced to run 13 straight A gap runs on 3/4th short do we see similar results as this year?

We don’t need the O to be as good as last year and we don’t need Beck to be Cam. We need our staff to put us in a better position with some different or diversified looks, break tendencies we all see as couch jockeys and stop playing not to lose. It’s going to make it a lot easier to be successful.

If we truly do let it rip, look like a playoff team and go 4-0 is everyone going to sit around and congratulate Mario/Dawson or can we have discussion about them why it took 2 losses to make adjustments?

Cam isn’t going be handcuffed or forced by coaches to run a certain play/gameplan, he’s an alpha at the position with an elite arm and supreme confidence, they’d basically let him run the offense like they did last year, complete freedom because they have complete trust in his ability. It wouldn’t resemble this bull**** we’re seeing with Beck at all, Cam wouldn’t let it.

All these things are accurate, but the truth is a lot more simple: We missed on our Qb evaluation.

Beck wasn't and still isn't that guy.

A good qb masks almost every problem we're having on offense.
I just think he’s very rarely in rhythm bc of play calling. Not saying he would be great. But I think when we’re not playing at a snails pace and constantly making him throw in obvious passing downs he’s been good but Mario/Dawson coach scared too often. It’s probably more Mario then Dawson

If we are counting on/hoping for him to be one of our OTs next year, we are fvcked. He should be 6th OL at BEST.
Yup. He has been a huge disappointment. I was tepidly on board with him being an OT next year early in the year, but that was dumb. Guy shouldn't be rewarded for regressing or at best treading water at guard this year.

He had a nice game against Stanford, but it was Stanford. As mid as he's been, don't think Samson has done anything recently to justify taking more snaps from him.

It’s literally this simple. These same exact coaches produced the BEST offense in the COUNTRY I wonder why 🤔

Also, Jojo did well filling in for CJ Daniels but he makes up for the lack of depth behind him. Idk if “explosive,” is the right word but he is a Hankerson/Hurns esque talent.
I like what I saw with JoJo last week.

I think he's getting too much criticism for the drop/INT (which was bad).

Lance Roffers is the man - but I disagree when he called that the turning point in the game. It happened with 10 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter.

IMO - the complete bust in our secondary on the SMU TD pass on the next play was worse.

I posted this elsewhere, but I went back and watched some UH condensed film just to satisfy my curiosity on the extent of Mario’s meddling. Even with Holgorsen looking over Dawson’s shoulder, it all looked very similar—the A/B runs, the WR screens, the disjointed feel to the downfield passing game.

I will say UH under Dawson ran fewer condensed sets outside the red zone and did have a bit more tempo (not Lashlee tempo, but they didn’t huddle as much). I think that alone would be helpful at UM.

The condensed sets and conservatism were evident in Dawson’s UH red zone approach. As one example against Memphis in 2022, UH had a goal-to-go situation (inside the 5 I believe), and ran 4 times out of condensed sets and did not score. If memory serves they had two trips in a row inside the 10 where they came away with zero points.
Just exactly what those screenshots of UH posters said…. Dawson is who he is. Mario’s soulmate in many regards.

They HaD to let Cam do what he did last year. It was the only way to stay in games

That long catch he made on the sideline near the middle of the field (I think) is something we have been missing at WR this year.
