Wake game thoughts after rewatch

Uh It is VERY different being up 16 vs 13. 2 scores by Wake gives them the lead, whereas up 16 means they need both conversions to even tie. Extremely different. Just cause its 2 scores doesn't mean its the same. Very bad criticism there. It was a fine decision.

I agree about the clock part, but Idk what happened there. We were charged a Timeout and they did a 10s runoff AND started clock early on whistle. made no sense.

The biggest "question" though was accepting the hold on the 4th and 10. That was a bad decision and I said so BEFORE the play was run, so it wasn't just waiting for the result either....

There's really no reason for you to behave with willful ignorance.

Being up by 13 WITH FIVE MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME is completely different than "being up 13" at an earlier point in the game.

It's a 54 yard FG attempt by a young kicker who has not established that he can make that kick in a game/pressure situation. It's stupid stupid stupid, and I fully understand why you are trying to justify such a stupid decision.

The issue is not merely whether we would win the game, it was allowing Wake Forest to continue to think they had a chance to win the game, thus continuing to play harder and risk more injuries. You don't allow a team like that to think they have a chance to win (against a 13 point deficit) or tie at home (against a 16 point deficit).

You score the TD and remove all doubt. Shorten the game to 55 minutes.

But you're sooooo smart...

@DMoney at this point i believe the staff believed Cantwell and Merriweather would be the Tackles with Samson and Mccoy at Guard.

Why do we not try Jaden Wilkerson at Tackle, and kick Mccoy inside? Essentially, can Wilkerson play Tackle better than SJ can play Guard?

you score the td and remove all doubt.... And you have a guarantee we would have converted there? lmao.

Winning on the road is hard. We completely dominated this game for most of it.
The D has some coverage issues no doubt. But Heatherman has earned my respect, he will get it figured out.
I think we will also see the OL improve and change.

Do I trust Mensah to pick up 4 yards MORE than I trust our inexperienced kicker to hit a 54 yarder?

Yes. Yes I do.

And you are ignoring the fact that the 2nd and 3rd down plays were *****-*** plays to set up a super-long FG attempt. We had already surrendered the shot at a TD.

You are a spineless coward who, fortunately, does not coach football for the University of Miami.

Here, this is a ***** DRIVE when it is obvious that (a) Wake is taking timeouts in the thought they will get the ball back, and (b) they have already gone for 2 when down 24. Therefore, you go for it with 4 yards to pick up, and then continue to run clock.

I think I remember Scott and Moten both saying they lost weight during the offseason and were both under 300 pounds.

If that’s true is Heatherman asking our DTs to lose weight instead of maintaining it while building strength causing problems with our interior pass rush?
I'm guessing its a lil different when teams aren't worried about Bain and Mesidor. Those 2 are still impacting the game strongly but agreed expected more in passing situations. Hopefully Lightfoot and Wilson continue having success like they did last game.

Dude I would've trusted a Judd QB draw more than Weinberg to hit the 54 yarder lmao

I mean I hear you but they must feel those guys are even worse than sj and buchanan
Or they just play favorites. Which they have done a lot. They refuse to play younger LBs. I guarantee you Antione would not be playing above Damari. We've seen how much they love Lyle even when he plays bad.
Every coach has there favorites and most will definitely favor the older guys. But I do think if they felt young guys was really that good they would play we have seen it with other guys

Exactly.

Wisconsin won 4 games last year. Wake won 9 games last year.

But, yeah, CIS porsters are going to overreact, no matter what kind of logical counterargument sane people provide.
I’m more mad of the fact Dawson does this way to much . Next thing how we cater to upper classman .lbs < next is the ol needs some Changes . But nd isn’t beating us

Thornton isn’t good in coverage don’t care what he did in practice. He wasn’t good in coverage at bc and so far this year he hasn’t been good in coverage vs stanford or wf.

The interior o-line is bad and I would like to know what’s going on on green tree because the things we were told about this o-line isn’t true at all. They should have hit the portal for a proven guy or 2.

Hetherman likes playing the soft zone whether the DBs are fully healthy or not. He needs to get more aggressive coverage wise because Stanford and wf wrs shouldnt be getting open that easy
how do we get more aggressive in coverage?

If we start from the premise that our three best cover corners are hurt, Thornton can’t cover (per the above) and everyone’s complaints about the linebackers not being able to cover in space.

what exactly does “more aggressive in coverage” look like?

Correct. Anyone with a feel for the game knew this was dumb before he even kicked it. So was bleeding the clock and playing for the FG before half when we could have buried them.

Calinative consistently has the worst takes on this board
