Looking at the schedule, they better get real comfortable dealing with QB runs.

For sure but to be fair ND was starting a qb who’d never played on the road. Running wasn’t really part of his MO and zero film to show they would attempt with him and all reports were the other guy would have been one to prepare for the QB runs. We will have plenty of film on these others before we play.

When Hetherman said he didnt know in presser kinda cringe cuz if I can do a lil research in summer just watching their spring game and see him roll out and look decent doing it while throwing on run, then guy getting paid big bucks should be able to adjust after they tried the first QB draw AND knowing Denbrock LOVES to run his QBs.

And I hope we NEVER have Moten on edge trying to contain on 3 man rush ever again, I already have nightmares of Moten trying to tackle Costellanos if we put him on egde. Dude almost injured himself and Carr was easily able to juke him and find WR WIIIIIIIIDE open around 7 cane defenders covering grass for TD.

So you’re saying mid game adjustments are not his thing?

One of the issues with playing a first-time starter is that you cannot anticipate every little thing that he is going to do, especially when plays break down. There's insufficient college film on him.

There's going to be far more film on the rest of the opponents, and the fact that USF and UF are about to play each other should serve us well.

And, yes, we will have to adapt to matchups, injuries on both sides, etc.

This is the biggest problem I see with this team. We better have some dynamic LBs in place before we see some of these guys. Full steam ahead on Wiley. Toure seems capable physically… but that game wasn’t great. I don’t see Aguirre getting the job done because he did not shed a single block the entire game to make a tackle in front of him.

He said he went through all types of tape of him but didnt think hed ran THAT MUCH.

So when did he realize he did and adjusted? Because they were running draws early and often. He got a bunch of running QBs in queue.. I dont think having Moten doing contain is gonna work..

USF game gonna tell us a lot. Actually if you remember last year that pop belly QB from Bethune gave us fits. USF really exposed us.

Not sure what Bethune has this year but last year against them was concerning

I remember the discussion after the USF week.. But Ill never forget sitting in hard rock VT game and having that oh **** moment like "oh ****, the defense is really broken." :snoopfacepalm:

We were so geeked up after slaughtering Florida we were missing it. I get why people are pumping the brakes right now

We don’t really have good LBs. They can be good enough though which is 1000% better than what we saw last year. But we are still a ways away from guys like Wiley taking over (I hope he can anyway)

Saw some good discipline from our guys Sunday but yeah we’ve got some challenges ahead

Like McElroy mentioned during the game, it was due to "man eyes", being in man so much of the game. Maybe Hetherman was ok with the trade off, (hey i'll give their QB 40 rushing yards before i get out of the coverage thats working) but he did mention they need to work on their rush lanes to help mitigate it going forward.

I'm actually glad it's on tape now to iron it out before a slew of running QB's.

Hetherman didn't really face a lot of running QB's at Minnesota last season so all eyes on that in two weeks.

fair but I think you have to pick your poison and deal with it. Them getting Love going was obviously plan 1A so we dedicated a lot of resources to defending their heisman hopeful RB. Then you have to assume new QB they want to give him some easy throws, get in a rhythm, we were prepared for the screen game and the corners were on point. OJ first play of the game, Damari busting through two guys for the INT, immediate recognition.

ND's other QB was the dual threat guy, I was surprised we didnt see him in a special play or two, so while Carr is capable of running, I dont think ND wants to rely on him to run like Riley last year. Like Beck scrambled 9 yards for a first down, I think Beck can run, or better example Ward could run, however if you focused on stopping the QB run with Ward you were getting eaten alive elsewhere. The longest run their QB had in 11 tries was 13 yards.

I do agree with you that Moten at DE should not be a thing, Unsure if this makes it better but I think we got caught with the wrong personnel on the field for what he was trying to do, DC correctly guessed they were going to throw and he had Messidor as the third standup backer on the GL. Messidor should not be in the field covering 5 yards off the ball. Against some of the more agile QBs I would not mind Pruitt or Wiley acting as a spy. Or if you are going to keep Toure and Wes need to make sure Bain and Messidor do not break contain whatsoever and make these QBs run up the middle and not get outside the tackle box.

Cam Pruitt will lock these fools up.

Hetherman said in the post game presser that they weren’t expecting the QB to run and didn’t game plan for it. I expect the boys to be ready by the time we play these dial threat QBs

Realistically if we didn't blow that one coverage we would have held them to 250yds. The QB runs up the middle require the safety to help, because we were outnumbered in the box. On the TD Carr did a good job of looking like he was going to throw it and Poyser took a step outside and couldn't recover to help the QB. Will definitely need to make adjustments going forward with all those QB's.

He actually didnt run for many yards, but he ran when it was critical. I dont give a **** if you never played said QB, you have played QBs who could run before. You should be able to make in game adjustments. And its not like he was running wild, its just everytime we had 1 LB in the box with a 4 man line. U gonna tell me the person in the sky box cannot see whay tf going on?
This is a early red flag, and am not giving man no slack if they dont adjust going forward..

I mean when a lineman releases off the line to block and the backfield is empty you better be disruptive and not willing to be engaged bec the qb is coming your way. I don’t care what the defensive call was.
