Anybody seen any of his times since he's been at UM? Saw somewhere he participated in a meet.

50-60m guys tend to be shorter, more powerful, and more explosive than 100m guys. Not that his time was terrible, but I recall Taylor being real thin. I doubt this is his best event.

This seems like an interesting player. But there is more to football than simply running and if he doesn't have attributes other then being fast then I don't want him onm

not really true 60m runners are 100 meter guys, the only difference is you dont run the 100 meters until outdoor season during the indoor season its only 60 meters. The reason some guys are more successful at 100 meters than 60 meters is just the ability to maintain top velocity longer, elite sprinters reach top speed around 50 meters and gradually decline from there

You're right they are the same guys. My point was that the shorter distances tend to favor the quick start over top end, which can be beneficial to stockier guys who have explosive starts but struggle a bit in the second 50m.

there's some truth to that despite usain bolt owning virtually all the sprinting records 5'9" maurice greene still has the 60 meter record at 6.39

Bolt doesn't run during the indoor season. His 60m split when he set the 100m wr was 6.29.

that was with a tailwind though i believe, greene attained his record indoors he had one of the best reaction times ever he was a very good starter i doubt that record will be broken for a long time its been standing since 2001

I saw a thing on Bolt and they said he was so fast because he's got a real quick start and crazy top end. Usually people only really excel at one or the other. Can't count the number of 100m finals I thought Carl Lewis had finally met his match only to see him walk a dude down in the last 40m.

Miami Hurricanes freshman sprinter Brandon Taylor will give football a go this spring, a source told to CanesInSight on Friday. Taylor was the fastest sprinter coming out of Texas in the 2016 class -- he was timed at 10.38 at the Texas Southern Relays in March 2016.

Taylor was a 2-star football recruit coming out of Clear Brook high school in Friendswood, Texas last year, mainly due to his size of roughly 5-7, 150-pounds. When he committed to UM for track, he expressed his interest in playing football at Miami. Due to NCAA policy, Taylor was obligated to honor the first part of the track season before he can move to the football field -- which is why Taylor was not with the team this past season. He will also remain on the Miami track team.

Although his size might have scared major football programs away, Taylor showed tremendous ability as a return man in his highlights, which is certainly a role where the Canes could use an upgrade. He also played wide receiver and running back in high school.

More from his official bio on the HurricaneSports.com website:

Taylor also is the 2016 USATF Junior Olympic Champion in the 100m and won a gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships in the men’s 4x100m. Taylor is ranked No. 1 in America in the boys 60m dash with his time of 6.78. He won the Texas A&M Invitational, Carl Lewis Invitational and the McNeese Invitational. Taylor placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.40 seconds at the 2015 UIL 6A State Meet. That time ranks sixth among returning men’s 100m times in the country.

Taylor is on track scholarship and he would only transfer over to a football scholarship if he played in a game. So if the coaches feel like he can make a meaningful contribution, it's the worth the chance. In all likelihood, the coaches will give him a look in spring practice and see if it's anything worth pursuing long-term.

Hey Pete,

Did this kid ever make it out to football?

Couldn't be further from the truth. There is no stature for a 60m guy vs a 100m guy. Justin Gatlin can give you a solid 60 and 100m. Same with carl Lewis, same with Leroy burrel, same with the cat from Kansas Maurice green etch etc etc.

You can't teach speed.....Have him race Edwards-Richards and Berries to get an idea of how fast this guy is..Just by looking at his film you gotta say give him a chance....

Berries? Lmao. This Taylor kid doesn't need to race those guys. 10.36 speaks for itself.

All great hurricane teams have a certain speed element to them. Superior speed. ALOT of Miami's greatest players also ran track. Most weren't track guys playing football. They were football players running track. That's what Miami needs.
