It may be for some kids but maybe not for him. He seems to be looking at how we develop closely. There wasn't much development for Rousseau, he was an evaluation coup. Phillips and and Roche were here only a year. We also have the recent history of Chad Thomas, Joe Jackson and Jon Garvin to factor in. How would their development sway his thinking?
All 3 cash nfl checks. What are we factoring?. lol @ their wasnt much development for rousseau...He never really even played DL in high school. Phillips retired from football..and Roche developed here in ayear and upped his nfl stock. Yall folks crazy

KId's talking about hoaning his craft, even spoke of areas he improved in HS last season, and looking to further develop his game. Don't know his work ethic, but what he's saying is very impressive.
Said he'll be watching DL coaches to see who DEVELOPS players. Imo, that would've disqualified Stroud, and most likely at least part of the reason for the FSU commitment. And don't come at me about Stroud developing DE's. Turned 'em loose..period. Rousseau's a phenom (at the college level) and Phillips is a former 5* freak who got healthy.
With Simpson now in the picture and his having acumen for teaching technique (development), I like our chances. Like this kid's approach, hope he's for real - if so, hope we land him. Sounds like a lunch pale guy, with talent.
OK I’ll play this game. Please tell me out of the schools that he’s considering what coach on any staff has consistently put some under the radar defensive end linebacker n the first round or the first 3 rounds. Everyone seems to have some **** double standard when it comes to judging development at this program.
When they don’t make The league it’s because we under developed. When they do make the league it’s because they were freaks of nature and they were going to go in the first round anyway regardless of what school they went to.

When some unknown three-star go somewhere else and makes a league OMG how can we miss out on these players that are in the Tri-County area. How can we like the coaches who can’t seWhen some unknown three-star go somewhere else and makes a league OMG how can we miss out on these players that are in the Tri-County area. Rousseau and Phillips are the **** definition of what a program’s evaluation, strength and conditioning, and position coaching success stories in all of cfb.
If both of them would’ve went to Alabama everybody would be gargling on that midget’s nuts like they do over every single kid that they get in the league.
Please tell me what other schools were so hard after Phillips while he was weighing 210 pounds? Who project him to be a first round pick the minute he came into our program from the transfer portal?
Everyone gives programs like Ohio State Alabama and Clemson credit for developing five star athletes but then not give the same credit to our staff when we do the same sht.

This you??

"During the 2006 NFL Draft, three of Stroud’s North Carolina State defensive linemen were first-round selections, including top overall pick Mario Williams by the Houston Texans."

I mean some of yall dont even know your own teams..and just spew out nonsense.

I’m confused. Your blurb says the below and that he’s a huge canes fan. While the above, states that his dream school is FSU. Lol. Guess that’s 2021 for ya. Anyway, this kids tape is legit. Fast, long, and can play all over the defensive line. We should be on him.
It says "a dream school" not THE dream school. Many of them say that...

I agree -- some of these guys are nitpicking to an absurd degree. They're searching hard for any possible reason for a kid to go elsewhere. It's like George Clooney worrying about women not liking him because he has one gray hair.

We may not be perfect, but we still have more to sell to a DE recruit than any other school in the country.

Phillips was the No.1 prospect in the country his senior year of HS.

And when he went into the portal...what was he. Matter of fact...he literally gave up on football. Dude was about to be a full time musician.

He was developed at Um. He didnt even look like the same player he was at UCLA.
You're trying too hard with me man. Not sure what you're even responding to. I simply responded to a poster denigrating what Phillips was before he got here as if he was some magical creation of UM. He was the top recruit in the country, and obviously lost size after stopping playing for a year because concussions.

We have a good system for DEs. No one is claiming Stroud was some magical DE whisperer. Rousseau and Phillips, in particular, are fantastic prototype athletes for the position. I'm psyched for them they're going to get drafted high and hope they have great careers. But if you think that means our development issues are somehow behind us, then I want what you're smoking. Selective examples can lead you astray in life. People here want to high five each other for a transfer who turns back into what he was to begin with, but then get upset when you point out others don't all do that. Anyone who posts a little balance around here is somehow a moper. Whatever then.

Naw B, You been around here for awhile. That MOPE than got into you...might want to quarantine for 14 days.

In that case...guys like Lorenzo Lingard should return to what they were before they got to UF. It doesnt work like that...He returned to what he was BECAUSE of our S &C and development by Stroud. Before he got here he was a player UCLA want even all that over.

Once you get to college....your high school rankings MEAN ****. Everything from then on is up to you and your coaches with development.

Your not really posting balance...thats why folks coming at you. Your kinda going off the deep end nit picking something that you kind of have a wrong take on.

Did you see b4 the season Jaelan Phillips being a top 2 round draft pick? If your answer is NO..I have no clue why your arguing his development.
Rousseau was a kid ...I DIDNT EVEN LIKE AS A RECRUIT. I had to eat crow on that one. Never i thought he would be a prodctive dl let alone a 1st rounder. He was developed. Didnt even have to play us for this year and he will be gone in the first round.

*Also i respect you as a posteer. I wouldnt even do a back n forth with you if i didnt think you know your sh*t. I liek debating stuff like this..keep it coming.

Lingard is who he is. He wasn't any better here than there. He was a bad EVALUATION. You can try to tell me that Phillips was a bad evaluation coming out of HS but no one will believe it. He was a top prospect who had injury issues, left the game for a year, then got back into it.

Re Phillips, I haven't denigrated a single thing about us or his development. I'm not 'arguing his development.' You've convinced yourself I'm saying things I'm not. But it's not some magic development dust we put on him or we'd be putting it on everyone. He and Rousseau had the genetics and put in the work. We gave him the opportunity. If we get so much credit for his 'development,' you'd have to be giving us a ton of blame for why other kids aren't equally 'developing' considering how great we're supposed to be at it.

We need more kids like Phillips and Rousseau. That's recruiting and evals. If you're right about our development being great then recruiting will be the solution so we can develop kids with NFL upsides.

I did like Rousseau, btw. Not so much when we first took his commitment (pre-summer IIRC), but a lot by his senior year when I saw more. But he's just that guy. He is bigger and has the frame. For the record, I'd take him over Phillips if I'm an NFL GM. Not sure what it even means to say we 'developed' him. Did we teach him tons of technique? He had the body, hit the weights, and in game time made plays. I hope to **** you're right and we're special at developing kids, but the overall body of our work the past two decades tells me we're not. When we get the right kids, they progress. When we don't, they don't.

This is the dumbest argument I’ve seen in a while.

We have the most DEs in the NFL, we’re among the national leaders in sacks every year, and we’re about to have two first rounders and another Day 2 guy in this year’s draft.

If we can’t sell our success with DEs, nobody can.

How much players you know that left the game for awhile..came back and performed like Phillips?.

Who are the de's that havent developed here in the last 5-6 years?.

We develop kids at TE and DE....as well as RB.

We suck at evals and developing at certain other positions. Those are facts and stuff i agree with you on.

My issue is you are equating the de and te position and lumping them with development at all the other positions. It doesnt work like that..we have different coaches at different positions. For years we had a high school level coach..corching our cbs. How much would you like to bet we get better at evals and development at db pretty soon?.

I didnt even see the genetics with Rousseau. (i thought he had a narrow frame that might not be able to handle weight) We had to develop him persay as this is a kid that played small school ball..and not really at dline. Anything he learned as a dlineman came from UM,...i literally stood 3 feet away and watched Jess Simpson lead him into technique and drills the spring he got here. I immediately came back on the board and ate crow as to what i saw i knew the kid would be an issue moving forward. P.S. I Played Left Tackle in college. Tackle and DE are the positions i can watch for 5 mins and evaluate at a high level.

this is why im soooo confused on what my man is selling.
Its like they dont want us to actually sell what were good at..for what reason?.

I am well aware of that. But nobody was blowing his phone up wanting him to go to their team except us. And then when he did come here nobody was saying that we had a number one draft pick on our hands. As a matter of fact some people say that but there was no way we were going to develop him into a first round pick because “that’s not what we do”.
A bunch of people on here kept questioning the development on our squad because Joe Jackson and Jonathan Garvin weren’t first round picks and neither was Chad Thomas.
Not only did we get the number one player of the 2017 cycle, but we got him while he had been out of football for over a year showed up on campus looking like he hadn’t seen a weight room in a very long time.
So no one wants to give our staff credit for Phillips and Rousseau but hype all these schools that consistently recruit elit players. I guess Chase Young would’ve not been a day one pick of he came her too.
It’s a double standard and a ridiculous way to compare coaches when these schools are stacked with blue chip players.

I truly believe the only people we should have to compete DEs success with is Ohio State cause of Larry Johnson Sr. That's it, if we win on field like we should, we should have our pick outta anyone.

I agree to. Not even Bama can sell it...Because essentially their DE's are two gap dts here. There de's dont even make a lot of plays in their scheme.
But OSU definately can..they crank out some freak shows at de. Clemson does a good job too..BUT alot of their de's bust out at the next level...bcause there dt's are the true real reason for the success.

There is literally no debate about it but our fan base is so traumatized that they can’t even see any positive. You could make a 30-30 short about Rousseau and Phillips and their paths to the draft and why Rousseau declared early and his freak season. Then show a before and after picture of both and how Phillips was totally out of football.
Maybe someone should bump the thread about what people thought of Phillips and Rousseau when each one committed.
We literally got the number one over all player of the 2017 class with one of the most freakish HS tapes I’ve ever seen and mfers in here were like “meh”.

Here's some more nonsense then..Stroud was so highly reputed after his work at NC St. that he didn't coach DL again 'til 2011. FIVE years later. Did S&C at FSU for 3 years before coaching on the offensive side of the ball for a season, then landing a DL coaching gig at AKRON in 2011 where he stayed for quite a while before landing in Coral Gables. The 1st rounders you mentioned were FIFTEEN years ago, and no one disputes whether Stroud can recruit. Developing defensive linemen was the topic, as it relates to a statement the recruit made. So why exactly did Stroud fall off the face of the earth after such a stellar 2006? With his resume at the time surely the SEC would've come calling. But they didn't. Hmmm. Do you question that there were concerns with the undisciplined style of play of our DL last season? Miss the UNC fiasco? Food for thought, but I presume nonsensical for an authority on the matter like you.
