We should be destination #1 for DE's after this draft class.
Glad that locally they are in abundance. Its been awhile since there have been a group of 6'4-6'5 235-245 roaming around dade and broward. This class there is like 4 or 5 of them in the tri county area. And all these guys can move as well.

A guy like Kenyatta Jackson who is essentially Kris Bogle in other classes is lost in the mix with me.

Can't wait for Rousseau and Phillips to go round 1 then Roche round 2/3. Will wake these monsters up.

One kid we recruited, played one year, didn’t even start the beginning of the year. Two other transfers. Not sure it’s as obvious as it sounds.

Pretty much irrelevant. They all made their draft position here as Canes. To top it off, only one of them was a can't miss prospect out of H.S.

Two DEs in the 1st round and another in the top 3 is a fantastic advertisement for us recruiting DEs, as much as you might not like it.

Rousseau was an eval of the staff and played his way into being a first rounder in that season. Phillips was on the trash heap and out of football. Roche absolutely helped himself this year. That’s a pretty bad misrepresentation of things with each of those guys.

3 guys picked in the top 100 this year >
That’s all that matters. Are you consistently producing high draft picks at my position?

That’s why had Rumph landed a highly rated CBs he may still be CB coach. Once you get a couple of players drafted high on your resume, recruiting gets a little easier. It works the other way as well as we all know with Rumph.

Back in February of 2020, life was different for 2022 Dillard (FL) 3-star DE Nyjalik Kelly, who had a few D-I offers to his name but was looking for a game-changer in his recruitment. Enter the local Miami Hurricanes, who extended a bid to Kelly nearly one year ago, an experience Kelly still remembers.

“It was just exciting, it was a humbling experience,” Kelly said. “It was my first big offer, so it made me feel like I was good and made me want to get more offers and keep working, never stop working.”

Back then, Miami’s DL coach was Todd Stroud, but after Stroud moved into an off the field role this offseason, UM went out and brought in Jess Simpson last month to coach the trenches. Although it’s early in the 2022 recruiting cycle, it seems Kelly is a priority for Simpson thus far.

“It’s been good with him, he’s a cool dude,” Kelly said of Simpson. “He basically tells me the ups of being a Hurricane and what I can do here, that I can possibly start first year if I work hard enough.”

As for what has him interested in the Miami program, Kelly pointed to both the staff and the defense at UM.

“It’s close to home and the relationships are good between me and the coaches,” Kelly said of UM. “I like the scheme, it fits me good and I can play just like #15 from this year (Jaelan Phillips).”

To land Kelly, however, Simpson and the rest of the Miami staff will have to pull the Dillard star away from the rival Florida State Seminoles, as Kelly committed to FSU last August.

“I’m still committed, but I’m open to if I feel a better opportunity comes,” Kelly said of FSU. “Like I didn’t know coach Simpson before I committed there, so things can change.”

The Noles went 3-6 in head coach Mike Norvell’s debut season in Tallahassee last year, but that alone hasn’t softened Kelly’s commitment to FSU.

“Teams have down years, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to be like that every year,” Kelly said. “[FSU] is a dream school of mine, I like their scheme, and Brian Burns told me I could be great like him there.”

What will it take for Miami or any other school to sway Kelly from his FSU commitment?

“Build a good relationship with me and show me how they coach,” Kelly said. “Do they coach better than coach JP (FSU DE coach John Papuchis), am I going to get better? I want to go to their practices and see how they coach, I want to see if they are putting players in the NFL. Rather than just sitting there being the same person all year, I’m trying to get better every year.”

Aside from Miami and FSU, Kelly cites schools such as Arizona State, Penn State, and Georgia Tech as programs that are in constant contact with him, while LSU recently extended an offer to the 6’4” 235 pound prospect as well. Kelly also says he hopes to visit all of those schools sometime this spring and summer.

As a junior in 2020, Kelly helped Dillard to a 6-0 record during their limited season and felt he improved his game.

“I grew on my pass rush, my run stop, and my get-off,” Kelly said of his junior year.

Funny he believes FSPoo is going to develop him better than an NFL DL coach. Would love to work him into the ‘22 class. Kid looks the part for sure

It may be for some kids but maybe not for him. He seems to be looking at how we develop closely. There wasn't much development for Rousseau, he was an evaluation coup. Phillips and and Roche were here only a year. We also have the recent history of Chad Thomas, Joe Jackson and Jon Garvin to factor in. How would their development sway his thinking?

All three players ended up much better after their time at Miami than when they came here. That's what matters.

Who are you a fan of? It's like you're trying as hard as you can to nitpick. Miami should be a no-brainer for a DE recruit.

I mean, I don't have a problem with us going after him, but why aren't we going after one of the uncommitted ends?

I'm sure they are. Just because there isn't a story on whatever recruit, it doesn't mean we aren't trying to recruit them or haven't in the past until they shut us out. What you see on recruiting boards is just a small sample of what is really going on. Fans don't typically understand this and get mad that we aren't on whomever or on them harder. We can recruit those kids and are often and then like I said above, some recruits eliminate us.

Not the point. As I stated, just judging from his comments, this recruit is looking at development under a microscope.

And don't throw your cane card at me. I was a cane probably before you were born.

KId's talking about hoaning his craft, even spoke of areas he improved in HS last season, and looking to further develop his game. Don't know his work ethic, but what he's saying is very impressive.
Said he'll be watching DL coaches to see who DEVELOPS players. Imo, that would've disqualified Stroud, and most likely at least part of the reason for the FSU commitment. And don't come at me about Stroud developing DE's. Turned 'em loose..period. Rousseau's a phenom (at the college level) and Phillips is a former 5* freak who got healthy.
With Simpson now in the picture and his having acumen for teaching technique (development), I like our chances. Like this kid's approach, hope he's for real - if so, hope we land him. Sounds like a lunch pale guy, with talent.

If development is what this kid is looking for Simpson should be able to easily sell his nfl experience & technical acumen into a flip. I want this kid in this class.
