Let us compare apples to apples.

By my count, 59 DBs performed the vertical jump at the Nike Opening in Canton. The top vertical for a DB was a 41.7" (13.2" better than Sanguinetti), and the worst was a 26.4" (2.1 inches worse than Sanguinetti). The average vertical was a shade over 33.1", which is still 4.6" better than Sanguinetti. Of the 59 DBs, Sanguinetti had the 7th worst vertical jump (and 4 of the 6 kids who did worse than Sanguinetti were 2020 kids). That puts him in about the bottom 10th percentile (against mostly kids from the Midwest, many of whom will not be playing at P5 schools).

I pointed to the vertical jump above because there are less excuses for a bad vertical jump than a bad 40 time. But as bad a 40 as he ran, his vertical jump may have been even worse.

Then those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt as the numbers for the combine average less than that. Perhaps it was an exceptional year, but it's more likely what I said beforehand. My guess is that the Nike event allows a step into the jump.

Nobody is saying he has some exceptional vertical ability. The troubling thing is his 40 time.

My suspicion is you are right about the "step into the jump" thing, as those results seem too good compared to pros 3-4 years older. But I think you are missing my greater point in looking solely at the one camp. Doing so isolates variables like rules for vertical jump, field conditions for the 40, circumference of the ball they use for the powerball throw, etc... All of the athletes tested faced the same conditions with the same rules in the same place on the same day.

In my opinion, it's Sanguinetti's place among his peers that is revealing. His numbers show him to be below average in nearly every category (he does about average in the powerball), but especially poor in the vertical jump. He looks better on film than he tests, but he tests at a very troubling level (at least for me).

Although I generally do not like E$PN for recruiting rankings, they do have a page on each profile ("Testing Results" tab) where they show you, graphically, how a recruit ranks at his position group based on SPARQ score and individual tests performed at The Opening. Here's the link to Sanguinetti's page: Sanguinetti Test Results. Even among safeties, his testing results are below average across the board (except powerball).

Upon further reflection, Spaghetti is actually an incredible athlete. His Brian Beast London testing numbers aside, his highlights picking off a few S FL QBs who throw like their flicking boogers off their fingers negates his near-Special Olympics-level testing numbers.

A slow 40 can be passed off on poor form but when you are near the bottom of your position group in all the drills, it's more than just poor form. You're just not a good athlete.
Kid sucks. Small, slow, weak. He can F right off to Salute the Hoot. That's what happens when you try to be a diva but actually suck

Fournette jumped like 27, and i dont see to many people complain bout him. Testing overrated, give me film & start lol bih

It would be a problem for Fournette if his job was to actually cover WRs on jump balls. Fournette is RB the one skill position vertical result is useless for.

Fournette actually had a 28.5" vertical jump... the same as Sanguinetti. Fournette just happened to weigh 240 lbs. at the time (about 70 lbs more than Sanguinetti).

I know 7 on 7 isn't everything but how does he do in camps? Was he at Paradise last year? Stats say one thing but film says another I'll go with the film

Not when the numbers are that bad.....every recruit has good film because they are highlights.

These dudes talk about “film” like they’re Mike Mayock sitting in a dark room watching actual all-22 game film. All they’re seeing is a few minutes of highlights over the course of an entire season.

Exactly, I bet Dallas Crawford film was good too.

Even without the weight Fournette would tell you that he is not a jumper that's all. **** Jhavonte Dean is a freaky athlete but he can't cover a soul seems like.

We know he can’t jump that’s for sure lol

Well sentiment on this kid changed dramatically. I haven't been following recruiting that closely this year, but last time I checked a couple months ago this kid was a must get.

What’s ****ed us up most is probation and poor results at the wrong time so far imo along with hefty bags but I’m encouraged by richts staff and overall building of the team he needs his qb to take off this year to prove the hypes real and he can make a run we need consistent offensive line and qb play and were in this ***** health is our only prayer for defensive tackle thou just need to keep developing players I think they can and have been proving it

Dallas Crawford #25 was nice at RB while you putting your foot in your mouth. He was an average safety at best.
disagree but everyone has an opinion, because if he was he would be an NFL back right now

He had better highlights than Spaghetti. Crawford had 10 picks one season. Knowledgeable UM fans were screaming for him to play Safety here.

Crawford was one of the best defenders in Fla both his Jr. Sr. Year. He seemed way to slow at UM. It didn’t help Golden fattened him up and our scheme was trash..
