Tuesday (3/20) Practice Report

Here's a report I got from someone at practice today.
_________________

Is Junior Alexis a player and is he really 280? yes and yes. Kid is very explosive during drills and looks all of 280. I expect him to play some next year.

Who stood out? Curtis Porter. While on the 2nd team he dominated and and his first team reps were just as impressive. Mike James looks alot bigger and broke off a few nice runs. Brandon Linder. He might be the best all around lineman we've had here in a decade. Rashawn Scott. continues to get open and make plays. Jimmy Gaines made a great stop on mike james on goalline drills.

Who didn't look good? Olsen Pierre. He got dishragged all day long. Jeremy Lewis. Looked out of it and was getting dogged pretty hard by kehoe. Flowers was getting dog cussed by Kehoe aswell but he's obviously still getting adjusted.

qb's: Williams is completing passes they just aren't very pretty. Alot of wobbly passes. Gray Crow has a very strong arm but I think if he lost 10 pounds his mobility would be enough to play at miami. I think Dewey looks poised in the pocket and throws a good ball.

rb: Mike James and OT will be more than serviceable next year. both are well rounded and Have great vision. OT put a sick move on Armbrister to score in a drill.

wr: not enough bodies to make an assessment other than Scott and Dorsett look very good.

te: didnt see much other than Cleveland had a few td's in goalline drills.

offensive line: Bunche is the vocal leader of the group which is odd considering he has the least amount of experience in the group. Linder and Feliciano look great at guard and Mcdermott looks more than just average like Horn did last year. He has more foot speed than Horn so getting up on backers won't be a problem.

defensive line: Chick looked stout as usual. Porter like i said is a difference maker at the 3 technique. Shayon Green still looks a step slow at end. Rico Williams did well in a few situations but nothing crazy. Note Kelvin Cain played in a 3 point almost all of practice.

lb: Gaines looked great but I really wish he would put more weight on. Kirby when in has looked very good aswell. Solid size especially for a guy who should still be in hs.

db: Telemaque had a pick in drills today. Ray Ray looks a little faster but not fast enough for my liking. Finnie got burnt today on a play and Williams was all over him. He's smaller than I thought he would be. Didn't really watch the db's enough though to be honest.

Good stuff as always. I wish we could get more out of our TE. It sounds like the OL is doing pretty good, hopefully that caries over to the season.

Can't wait to get this new group of receivers in

Olsen Pierre is a run stopping DE. Kid is not strong enough for DT yet and probably never will be.

Jeremy Lewis is a major 4 star bust

Pierre simply carries way too much of his weight up top. Not his fault, it's his build...he's thin down low.

Junior Alexis explosive?

Hmm. Surprising but great to hear.

Time for Linder to shake off the ups and downs from last year and be what many people already think he is: the best lineman on the team.

Also I hope Porter travels between classes in bubble wrap. **** do we need him healthy.

porter looking good isnt a surprise.......because he was our best DL before he got hurt

having him healthy is a great thing for the DL

Thanks D...Gotta feeling Cain may move to end opposite of Chick and Kirby/Johnson/Buc battle it out for Sam.Also, seems more and more like Morris will be our starting qb come fall

naw think Cain will be playing that OLB role for us...the hybrid spot...im guessing their cross training him in case.

Funny how Junior Alexis was like 6'1 245-250 when he enrolled and now kid is 280 and explosive...i'll have to wait and see on this one.

Expecting alot from Telamaque and Ray Ray.....if those two play up to their abilities...we will be real good on d.

Alexis is strong as an ox. He had the most bench reps of any kid on the squad from the S&C reports, or close to it.

Would you play Darius smith in a 3 technique or Curtis porter? Think logically right now. Olsen Pierre has been mentioned as playing the 3 Curtis is his back up. Darius has been the starting nose tackle backed up by Alexis. Sounds like Curtis is our best DT right now and they want to get him in more 1 on 1 matchups.

a 3 has to be a quick off the snap penetrator...porter is a plug

Respectfully disagree on porter just being a plug. Watch the 2 games he played last year. He's very disruptive. Your "plug" is Darius "plug" Smith. Alot of teams have been successful with 2 huge d tackles. Remember Sapp's and Suh's don't come around very often.
