Tight end target Anthony Cartwright III discusses staff relationships and Miami visit
After making an earlier visit in March, three-sport athlete Anthony Cartright III made his way back to South Florida for Miami’s last practice of the spring slate. A 6-foot-5, 235 pound tight end who excels over the middle of the field, Cartwright has already set his official visit with the Hurricanes for June 5-7. Here’s what the four-star Michigan native had to say to me for CanesInSight following his visit:
Overall visit recap:
“Everything’s been going pretty good so far, I’m enjoying myself.”
“I got to see practice firsthand and watch Coach Cristobal, Coach Viti, and the rest of the coaches; it feels like a place where I can see myself being coached and developing, everyone looks explosive.”
“Everyone is having fun and bringing energy, and that’s exactly the kind of environment you need to get better every day and push each other.”
On his relationship with the Miami coaching staff:
“Coach Cristobal and I have been building a relationship since they first started recruiting me, so I feel like we’re pretty close. And even with the short amount of time Coach Viti has been here, I think we’ve already built a great relationship. It’s only going to keep getting better from here.
On watching the tight end group during practice:
“The number of reps they were getting really stood out. Everybody was involved, everyone was catching passes. In drills, the tight ends were everywhere on the field, not just in one spot or one group. I think the versatility across the entire room is what’s going to make that group so dominant.”
Why this visit was so important:
“I really wanted to see what practice is like, how I would fit into the offense, and how the coaching staff plans to use me when I get here.”
On how the staff sees him fitting into the scheme:
“They see me in a role similar to Elijah Arroyo — someone who can do everything and stay on the field because of my versatility. Being able to play multiple positions is a big part of that.”
Other spring unofficial visits:
“So far I’ve been to Michigan, Michigan State, and now Miami.”
“I’m heading to Oregon on May 9th.”
