University of Miami men’s basketball head coach Jai Lucas announced Friday the signing of standout guard Acaden Lewis.

One of the nation’s top young floor generals, Lewis arrives in Coral Gables following his freshman campaign at Villanova, where he earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors and was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.

“Acaden is a true point guard who makes everyone around him better,” Lucas said. “His feel for the game, his ability to create for others and his competitiveness on both ends really stood out to us. He’s proven he can produce at a high level, and we’re excited about what he brings to our program.”

Lewis set Villanova freshman records with 176 assists and 63 steals, averaging 5.3 assists per game to become the first Wildcat to reach that mark in a season since 1998-99.

He delivered several standout performances, including a 26-point outing at Georgetown to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors and a 14-point, 12-assist double-double in a win over Xavier.

He added seven 20-point performances and registered 16 games with six-or-more assists.

Prior to Villanova, Lewis was rated among the top-35 prospects nationally and was named the Washington, D.C., Gatorade Player of the Year at Sidwell Friends School. He also competed on the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Durant, averaging 16.7 points and 6.1 assists per game.
