Yes he did, but like I said, if you actually watch the throws, many of those completions were poorly placed. Plus, how many are little dump offs or 5 yd throws? Im not saying hes bad or should be benched or any nonesense. Im just saying I have ball placement concerns, and I dont base that off game 4, i base it off games 1-4.

Agreed. During the USF game I kept pointing out that some throws were behind the receivers but they were making the catches.

Definitely been some good and bad. He gets going and he’s had several really nice throws on screens and underneath where ball placement has led to a ton of extra yards.

But then as you said there’s times where he’s just way off. Thankfully we’ve had some receivers (and Marty Brown) bail him out. Daniels has a huge drop but in general they’ve been good.

I’m sure some of the bad Saturday was the weather but the preseason concerns about the group being explosive enough to threaten defenses downfield are still there. Not sure there’s really anything that can be done about it.

It's our Safeties. Sometimes last year, they didn't even flow in the right direction. Many times, they took absurd angles. Almost all the time, they were lost pre-snap. It's a shocking turnaround to at least get everyone lined up off basic motion.
that can be said for the entire secondary

We won’t use the Portal as much this year. Half the haul this year has eligibility. We’ll be looking for DT, Safeties and Nickel, WR, K, and QB. We need to make sure we resign our DEs, CBs, and RBs.

And at the end of the day catching the ball is all that matters. His ball placement has always been up and down. Even going back to 2023 when he had Bowers and Ladd McConkey at UGA. But they caught everything and that’s why Beck was considered a Heisman front runner going into 2024. We will just have to live with Beck ball placement issues. Just what it is with him

If I'm being honest, there's some mechanical issues. Not the throwing motion when the pocket is clean sometimes.

He drifts back when he throws, and rarely steps into it cause he's afraid to get hit. He's not the type to take a shot while getting a rib shot. We're really relying on the OL to make him money.

He's a good QB just worries me on that regard also I think he's got a self confidence issue. When you dirt balls, you're trying to hard for accuracy. He just need to calm down and relax man. Football greatest game in the world have fun my man, he's best friend would be a sports psychologist and he would fly.

This has been said every year. Let that hurt go buddy.

Before we start scheduling brain scans on the kid, let's see how he throws a (hopefully) dry football in 2 weeks in Tallahassee.

The last game the dude played before Uif, he literally completed 82% of his passes for 12.1 yards every time he threw it. Like, the very last time he played. Yes, the receivers made some nice catches, that's what they're paid to do. He also hit CJ Daniels right in the ******* face with a throw on 3rd and 10 on Saturday, and he dropped it.

He wasn't good, we get it. But I'd pump the brakes on body language experts and CT scans for now and see how he plays against FSU when the ball isn't a sloppy mess.

Regarding Clemson, a fan said their football team has a DEI program for white players. Another added they need more Tyrekes and Ray-Rays. SMH.
All I know is, if you're a white boy starting on Miami's defense, you're one bad m'fer lol. Ain't no DEI here! Dan Morgan is the prime example. Colin Mac was one of our better linebackers, too.

I was going to start a new thread about this but I'll just do it here. Through the first 4 games I think Miami is teetering on being the best team in college football. The question becomes can they improve and make it there or do what we've seen for decades and stand still or regress.

Notre Dame
Up 21-7 with 5:00 minutes left in the 3rd. Miami can't complete a 3 and 1 and punts the ball away. Notre Dame goes down and scores a TD. That drive is the championship drive for Miami. You go down and score a TD or even kick a FG, taking time off the clock, and the game is not only over but it's a blowout. So close to not just winning but absolutely dominating. One drive. So close.

Florida
3rd quarter, Miami is up 13-0 with 10:00 left. We have the ball at midfield. Brown scores a TD that gets called back. Terrible, I know. But still, we end up punting. A TD there and the game is over 60% of the way through. Not just a win, but domination. The narrative for Canes fans is completely different. So close. One drive.

These are two good teams in UF and Notre Dame, one is very good, that Miami had the opportunity to blow out. That's why I say they're teetering on being the best team in college football. That extra gear they need to complete those drives is what would make them unstoppable. I hope Miami does something they haven't done in the past few decades and that's get better as the season goes on. If they can get there nobody is touching this team.

The best teams throughout sports history recognize the moments where you can absolutely put a team away, not just at the end, but before it even gets to that point. Good teams win close games. Great teams win by the 3rd quarter. Miami has to learn that skill.

I agree with you, receivers and passer a like weren't the biggest bodes of confidence. But the mechanics that I was speaking of are different.

The guy is good and can play elite, it's just a random worry. His football IQ is there, he rarely makes a bad decision.

Best QB we've had other then Can.

@DMoney considering Bauman's struggles in your opinion is it high time Coach unleashed the Ruskavich?

OL

James Brockermeyer
has a couple weeks to clean up the snaps.
Roman from The Orange Bowl Boys (I know, I know) made a comment about the snapping that could make sense... supposedly the issue is that the other teams have been imitating Beck to get the center to snap early (I thought there was a rule against that, but maybe it is hard to enforce) and if that is the case, it hopefully won't be an issue as they will likely be using a silent count against FSU anyways since it will be at FSU's place.

Beck grew up in Florida, he’s played football in rainy, humid, messy conditions countless times. To me it’s a bad game and I think he’ll be fine as he gets more reps after the injury layoff, but I’m not buying that we can chalk up the struggles against UF to rain. Beck not being fully sharp and the lack of separation/elite talent at WR are why the passing game has struggled at times imo.

Charmar's big catch and run to kickstart the 1st TD of the second half was really a poor pass and a great grab. Also, the first grab by Lofton was very low and basically tackled Lofton

I think its valid to have some concerns about Becks accuracy. In all the games this year there have been plenty of off throws, even though many were are still completions. The poor ball placement hurts YAC because the recerver has to adjust. Some of our best plays to date, like the bomb to Toney ( I believe it was Toney), he had to slow way down for the ball since it was underthrown. The huge CJ Daniels superman catch - thats an interception 9 times out of 10. I didnt watch him at Georgia so I dont know if the accuracy has always been an issue or if this is something post injury recovery.
I think it was Moore if you are talking about the long TD to the top of the field where the WR had to slow down, jump and then fight the DB to catch the ball in the endzone - but yeah... Beck has definitely had more than a few throws that are off target.

If FSU played us with the 2 deep safeties last year and saw UF have some success with same formation, you can assume they'll do it again... Dawson has 2 weeks to prep Lofton/Bauman/FR TE's on short/mid dumps.... I'd love to have the RB's prep for dump passes as well, but I think they get too tied up in pass protection... butttt... if our OL can handle FSU with just RB chip blocks to get free, then LFGGGG....

There's no such thing as a homegrown team anymore. At least not a good one. All offseason, the media hyped up Florida and Clemson. Nobody seemed to care that their Portal classes ranked below Sacramento State. They were going to fix their problems by "developing their own guys." We saw how that turned out.

The big winners on Saturday all invested in the Portal. Texas Tech spent millions to build a defensive line from scratch. Indiana followed up a dream season by splurging on upgrades. Missouri leveled up with a dynamic backfield combo and Georgia's best pass-rusher. All of them won big.

The Canes are twice the team as the Gators because they use both talent pools. Twelve of our starters came from the Portal- Beck, Daniels, Marion, Brockermeyer, Bauman, Blay, Mesidor, Toure, Thomas, Poyser, Lucas and Scott. The other ten are high school recruits. Of those ten, six came from South Florida (Fletcher, Toney, Bain, Moten, Bissainthe, Frederique). The remaining four are giant offensive linemen from all over the country. This is a sustainable formula.

Mario and Napier were hired the same week. They waged fierce recruiting battles from Day One. Even the collectives got into it.

Four years later, the results speak for themselves. The University of Florida football program is dead and buried. Unless we play in the Callahan Auto Parts Bowl, we won't be seeing them for a while. Josh Pate compared this game to Butterbean v. Bart Gunn at Wrestlemania 15. I wish I thought of that first.

The 26-7 bludgeoning capped it off, but the whole weekend was a huge win for the program. Gameday looked incredible on TV, the stadium was packed and loud, and the national perception of Miami has shifted completely. We are a real program again.

Here are some position-by-position thoughts on the game:

QB

Carson Beck
didn't play well. His passes lacked juice, and his ball placement was off. I think the weather had an impact. Beck doesn't have huge hands to grip and rip a wet football. But he did enough to move his record to 28-3. I expect him to come out of the bye week smoking against Florida State.

RB

Mark Fletcher
had 116 yards and it felt like a normal day. Four games in, he's one of the best backs in the country. Marty Brown made the two biggest plays of the game- one that counted (one-handed catch) and another that the refs missed. Miami ran for 189 yards against the best defense left on its schedule. It should have been even more. Jordan Lyle will give this group a jolt when he returns after the bye.

TE

Elija Lofton
finally got going with four catches and a hurdle. Coach Cristobal talked about Lofton on the WQAM postgame and sounded bullish on his recovery. He's still not the player we saw in practice, but he has two weeks to heal. Alex Bauman had some rough moments. Like Beck, he missed spring and his timing just seems off. This is a good week for him to to settle down. We need more production from this position.

WR

The receivers had a quiet day. The high point was whooping the Gators as blockers. Miami needs some of its more explosive players like JoJo Trader, Lyle and Lofton to get healthy to take this offense to a new level.

OL

This remains the best unit in America. It's hard to believe that some "experts" ranked the Gators OL over Miami's in the offseason. They weren't even playing the same sport on Saturday. Markel Bell, in particular, was dominant. I thought he was only OK against Notre Dame, but he was on another level versus the Gators. He treated Tyreak Sapp like a child. James Brockermeyer has a couple weeks to clean up the snaps.

DL

This team plays with maniacal effort, and its two best defensive players (Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor) set the tone. Everybody tries to match their energy, and that results in a lot of car crashes. Mesidor made an incredible play on an end-around to Tre Wilson that showcased his agility and motor. He's a high school linebacker and plays with that kind of awareness and change of direction. Marquise Lightfoot is matching their energy and moves like a safety. There aren't many five-star defensive ends flying down on kickoff. The defensive tackles continue to be rock-solid, with Ahmad Moten coming on strong.

LB

This group doesn't get enough hype. They're long, they're heavy, they run well, they knock back, they have instincts and they're old. Jeremiah Love averaged 126 yards against Texas A&M and Purdue but only got 33 against Miami. Jaden Baugh ran for 46 yards on 3.8 yards per carry. It's been a complete transformation since the lows of the late Manny era.

DB

The safeties stood out on Saturday. Jakobe Thomas is exactly what we needed on defense. Like Bain and Mesidor on the defensive line, Thomas sets the tone on the back end. He's also been a sound tackler. Zechariah Poyser followed his lead and threw his body around with abandon. Keionte Scott is an Energizer Bunny in the slot. The corner group still hasn't been tested, but they're playing physical. I think Florida avoided the horizontal passing game (which could’ve helped their struggling QB) because our corners would have eaten their wide receivers alive.

K

Carter Davis
is an example of the staff's success evaluating in the Portal. There can be projection with older players, too. Davis has a special boot and he is becoming a better kicker every day.

Overall, the four weeks have gone as well as possible. it's a long season and there will be adversity. Time to heal up, study up on Malzahn and get ready to win a state title.

Butterbean vs Bart Gunn is an elite analogy.

We legit beat down UiF. I expect the same against the ****noles and down the stretch.
