UM fans love a FB and a walkon. You'd think this was Nebraska or Michigan circa 1979.

Williams should help at times. But I'd rather have an extra playmaker on the field more often. Every play that extra OL Williams is on the field is a play that Herndon or the great Sam Bruce or some other TD maker is on the sideline.

Perhaps, and I certainly don't want to imply I want us running the Coker-T every down, but going 5-wide when you only need 6 inches is just silly (and a bit dirty...)

I don't think there is anyone here asking for the kid to be given the ball every play.
It is just nice to have a true FB who can black and get a yard or two when needed.

I think we all know that Richt loves to mix things up and his fast break offense had many formations that do keep all the weapons on the field as you have indicated.
But near the end zone and and short yardage we have seen him bring in the big boys at both F$U and UGA.

And we sure as **** aren't converting on 3rd and short just because the kid is big, unless the interior of our line improves drastically.

So was it mostly just drills today? Which running back stood out the most? Has Yearby slimmed down anymore?

Yearly said he's down from 16 to 9 percent body fat
16 is way too high for a young running back especially one with his skill set. I hope he wasn't playing anywhere near that last year.

He looked like someone stuck an air tube up his *** last year. Id be surprised if he was under 18% body fat last year. His whole game is quickness and jump cuts, so I never understood having him look like a burnt meatball last year.

"well y'know we're really excited for Joe - he's up to 275 lbs now, and that new Hoveround we got him should really help his durability without sacrificing any speed..."

Exactly. How many times have we seen a jumbo package with guys getting pushed backward and the tailback having nowhere to run because everything is clogged up? If you need an inch you don't necessarily need another giant guy in front of the RB.

Lol **** naw. Funny times. It feels great to know we have richt as our coach now

* Of transfer fullback Marquez Williams, Kaaya said, “Despite how big he is, he’s still pretty fast, can move too. He can help us out whether it’s play-action, getting into the flat, roll outs and stuff, short yardage of course. He’s a strong guy. I don’t know if you’ve watched his highlight tape, but he’s a real physical guy. I’d be afraid to tackle him if I were the safeties and DB’s. We’ll see when pads come on. He might hurt some people this year.”

Shirreffs up to 210? Dang, that's a jump for a skinny, tall kid.

I'd even wager that a guy like Herndon lining up at FB is just as likely to pick up short yardage than a lumbering 275 awkward battering ram is. I'm with chise and others. If it's a spot duty kind of role, fine, but if he's out there a large(r) amount of plays, it hurts out offense. That's one less offensive weapon you have on the team. With a halfback role back there, a la Davenport circa 2000, it creates that many more mismatches for the defenses.

I'd like to see Shirreffs at about 265 at his height. You can't win if you're thin.

More playmakers on the field. I understand heavy use of a FB if you're recruiting at Iowa. When you have weapons like Sam, Herndon, Njoku, Coley, Richards, Berrios, Harris you spread the D out and have giant running lanes.

With Walton's receiving ability, you can even line him up at FB, then have him motion or split him out like Richt did with Michel.

I understand a tiny role for a 5'5 300 pound FB, but if he's out there more than 6 to 10 plays per game then you're wasting your best resources.

As long as Gall stays out of the starting rotation, like he has at the start of camp, we will be fine.
