It's quite obvious that there are various contingents on this board --ones who root unconditionally for a specific qb to win the job. I think this approach is misguided. If Perry is the best man, start him. If it's Evan, same thing...etc etc. As Canes fans, we should want the best player to start. End of story. This emotional high school cheerleading for a certain candidate is just dumb. Give me the best guy, no matter what, and let's roll.

Watching Derrick Smith's film confirms the quote about how smooth his "hips" are. I don't know what I missed for him to be sorta dismissed but he definitely seemed like the biggest impact player on that defense he played for at Trinity.

Not only his hitting ability but I saw him show good range for someone his size at the safety spot. Having him at FS would be most ideal since we have Amari Carter at SS.

I was on the sidelines and I wasn't impressed at all. I was like who in the **** is playing safety

Y'all have found a way to get mad over good news. We back.

I think it's more that people realize that not everything is picture perfect like you may imagine. I think people are more in a wait-and-see mode. Every year there are player's whose production does not match what is said about him.

Everyone is getting lost in the Sherrifs note of Pete's post.

The fact that after 5 practices a true freshman late enrolle is already taking first-team reps shows that Perry is going to win this job. Sherries had all spring/summer to make a big case for himself and he didn't pull away at all. He's even with a freshman. Perrys going to win this job.

All qbs except Vinny jr got 1st team reps yesterday. Weldon too.

Rick said everyone would get some reps with the ones before fall practice even started.

Nobody loves Pete and D$ more than I do, but they said Rosier would be off the team prior to last season. Then he wound up being the primary backup. It's way too early to be making any concrete declarations especially given Shirreffs' mostly horrible play in scrimmages to date.

Funny thing about Perry is no one even talks about all his fumbles. Homer fumbled once last year, and he was immediately labeled a fumbler. Gray got the same rap.

this is funny and sad because it is so true!!! Coach has said it all summer, everyone would be given an opportunity. I too remember all the talk in spring last year about rosier. How he was going to be 6th string and that he wouldn't be on the team by the team the first summer enrollment.

For the record again, I don't care if the unearth Osama and put him at qb, this alum and fan just want to see this team win. More importantly, richt coach the team like he coached them those last 5 games. Use the players to their strength!!!

Very fair post.

Hard to argue with any of this, really.

The stealthness of the Weldon campaign has been strong. Can't wait to see him starting on 9/2

Exactly the way I see it. I predicted Rosier would start, but if one of the other guys starts and leads us where we should go, then I'll gladly be wrong on my prediction.

Perry has a quick release. Perry is the most elusive of the three (I assume). Perry can throw the deep ball accurately. Perry has looked good in Zone reads (according to Walton.) Perry had the highlight throw to Njoku that made everyone slobber.

Sometimes reading the tea leaves can be difficult. I think it is getting clearer as the days go by.

There's not a person with an IQ over 60 who doesn't acknowledge that Perry is superior to Rosier and Shirreffs in almost every physical category. That doesn't mean he's equipped to lead the team to where we should go yet.

We shall see. The scrimmages will tell Rick a ton about how comfortable Perry is running the offense under pressure and leading the team. We won't know because we won't see the scrimmages. But I hope Rick makes the QBs live and that Papa Shango Garvin doesn't snatch another body.

Perhaps.
Something I can see happening is our defense making all three of them look bad. Then we will get fake news insiders on here saying things are looking gloomy and all three of them look horrible. When maybe our Defense just steps it up and looks like the tank it was built to be.
If that happens I think the guy with the more physical talents gets the nod. We shall see.

Agree if QB are live that will make a big difference in proving who's got the juice. Also with y'all on best man should win. I'm just ready to be back at the top mane.

it may be that the guy who knows the playbook the most and gives up the least amount of turnovers gets the nod.

This is also a possibility.
Richt knows what he is looking for.
However, from what I have heard about him and making a no huddle offense simple for Charlie Ward in the past he may be tempted to just simplify things and adjust to the talents of his most talented QB here too.
Just speculation on my behalf of course.
