I know Smith is small and you would think linebacker, but how do you move a kid with that type of natural pass rush ability?

I like what MNW is planning to do with him this season. We know he can dominate as a pas rusher, but his coverage is still in question (mostly because he's never been asked to do it in a game). Better have him struggle with it now in high school, then have to make a huge adjustment in college. There's no doubt he will still be used mainly as a rusher in college because that is what makes him great, but Golden and D'Onofrio love versatile athletes on that side of the ball as evidenced by their recruiting classes.

The statistics quoted are quite misleading. You suggest (quite incorrectly) that these numbers are too high & outta line.
Not so! Twenty to twenty-five percent of EVERY class -- at all schools-- will be total misses. That is one of the reasons for the NCAA 25/85 rule. If a school signed 25 every year, they would have 100 - 125 kids, unless many 'washed out', i.e. failed to qualify, flunked out, serious injury, etc.
If a college coach could correctly 'fortell' who the failures would be, he wouldn't be a coach! He'd move to Vegas and 'beat the bank' with his ominipotence.
Plus, even of those who do qualify and stay for 4, or 5 years, about 15% will still be JAGs.
Nature of the business!

Would not schock me to see Crawford leave as the best signed that year.

I seriously doubt he is going to be in the top 10 best players we signed that year.... He's not better than Gunter or Howard IMO and that's just out of the CBs.

& you base your hes not better than Howard opinion on what exactly ?

well hes starting over him right now

Where you getting that info from? Fall practice hasn't started & 4 corners were listed as co-starters on the post spring depth chart. Lulz

Agreed. Long way to go before he is on campus and we have heard and seen hints about 3-4 defenses and flex units. Its not often I think of "electric" for a player not on offense but that's what I think when I see Smith.

When did I say it was too high? I clearly said it was common among top programs.

LULZ.

When you flat out say one thing, you don't suggest the opposite. Read it again.

It's tough to characterize too many of those guys as "busts". Almost all of them showed flashes of talent and some of them were contributors. Just didn't work out for whatever reason.

You wanna know who one of Darrell Langham's biggest fans is? None other than former RB recruit Greg Gryant. Dude was all over DL's nutz last year when they played. Nobody could apparently cover Langham. Nobody.

thing is DYE is a plus size d-end. I actualluyy think he can make waves there.....dude was a big time blocker @ de last yr..i enjoyed his play and keyed in on him.

If dude is elgible and healthy he is in the two man rotation and likely starts a few games next yr.

He played Mans Game football last year. We definitely could use that on the defensive line. If we can get Gilbert and a healthy Dye out there rotating, that's a **** of an upgrade over last year.

Dye could wind up being that Ben Jones/Davon Johnson out-of-nowhere senior contributor this year.

150 viewing the recruiting board means papa cane and all those other fake insiders will copy Arizs **** like always and claim its there inside source.

Dortch should be good. I know Morris scorched him a couple times in the Spring game, but in relooking at the tape, Dortch played great coverage and (1) Morris' ball placement was unreal, and (2) the coaches should have whistled some plays dead because the DL had already gotten to Morris but wasn't allowed to sack him so just ran by. Dortch still needs to add a little bulk, but I was impressed.

We also found E. Flowers before anyone else, and A Crawford wasn't very highly rated. Both are going to be studs. Can't comment about the others yet because they haven't had enough on-field exposure. But I've read that coaches love the attitude and work ethic of Hope and Blue.

I think Howard is better than Crawford b/c of what I saw from both of them last season and in the spring game.

Although both didn't see the field much last season Howard stood out the most.... Honestly Crawford hasn't stood out at all. I think he is a good cover corner but he doesn't make plays.

Last season Howard had 4 PBUs which shows his playmaking potential IMO. Also he is very good in run support and has a very good nose for the ball. In the fsu game howard made, what i thought, was the most impressive defensive play of the game when he ran down Chris Thompson from behind when it looked like he was about to blow past our entire defense. I think Howard is our best pure tackler at the db position.

In the spring game Howard made some impressive solo tackles against duke. in pass coverage he was up against the 1st team offense and Crawford was up against the 2nd and 3rd team offense, But Howard stood out the most with his ability to do more than just cover the receiver.

Like i said Crawford hasn't made a single play up to this point that's why I really don't understand why so many want to crown him as better then Howard or just the best period.... I think it's more to do with the whole al golden always finding diamonds in the ruff thing.

That's why I was so shocked that they moved him back to DE. He was a beast blocking TE. I hope it works out for him at DE because he seems like a hard worker and good kid.

Candidates to break out in their final year of eligibility:

Shayon Green
Curtis Porter (please stay healthy)
Dyron Dye
Luther Robinson
AJ Highsmith (lol, but you never know!)
Kelvin Cain
Kacy Rodgers (lol, again)
Tyrone Cornileus

Asante Cleveland
Eduardo Clements

Hopefully a handful or more of these guys can turn the corner and make an impact

If he really struggles this year in HS.
Can always use him strictly as a pass rusher if he doesnt blow up

Peter... will these 13 affect our graduation rate? I would think so. Long term, that's not good for recruiting. It may not really affect us too bad, but as an alum, I don't care to see our graduation rate go below 80%.

I don't think it factors into the graduation numbers.

I'm eager to watch Smith develop his coverage skills. Like McCord and AQM, his primary value will be coming off the edge - with or without having his hand on the ground. But I think you still want these guys to be able to cover that TE. Exponential increase in value if they can.

All this talk about Dye having a breakout year as a senior this year, but didn't he tear his Achilles in the spring?
