We landed one of the top safetys in the country and we're looking good to land JC, I'll call it a success, even if the latter is not true. Getting Hester was a huge coup.

People in here b*tching and complaining about the DT position, really?

Valentine is a stud, Moten is a stud, Jenkins is a solid player and we have a JUCO in Wyche. If these 4 aren't good enough then you guys will never be happy.

solid post.

However the same thing was said 2 years ago when we signed Briscoe, Ivory and Moore. How did that turn out?

We need as many potentially good DT's as possible.

Cerenord looked good at camps, not sure if he fits a 3-4 though. There will be a JUCO or two that pops up...Kamalu wasn't on the screen this time last year.

I know that star ratings aren't everything, but our DTs this year are rated 8, 14, 77 (position rank) and Wyche is the 12th rated JUCO DT. This is 247 composite rating, which an average of all recruiting sites. Compared to 40, 52 and 88. Now again ratings don't mean anything once you get on the field, but our prospects are much more highly regarded this year than they were 2 years ago.

Now I agree that you need as many good DTs as possible, but I'd say thats a pretty good haul right there.

There is absolutely no way a class of Briscoe, Ivory, and Moore is anywhere close to Valentine, Moten, and Jenkins. No Way. The talent level is drastic.

Its not that. I think most people are aware we have some major studs coming in at DT. It's the current crop which is a little suspect. People just want to bring in one more quality DT to overcome the current question marks at the position. In other words, bring as many quality DT's in so teams like Duke aren' t rushing for 900 yards against us.

This class is really awesome though. If we can add Cook and JC and maybe... another DT or.. a JUCO LB..... good god.

No sh*t bro.

I was merely pointing out that when we signed those kids all the UM boards were saying how much Golden "get's it" how great those kids were going to be, and how those kids were going to help shore up our woe full D line.

I remember the talk as well, it was just simply a case of over valuing your recruits.

Exactly. So while I am optimistic and pleased with our DT haul so far, I am still on a wait and see (show me Al and Staff) before I get all excited about potential.

Those three were nothing like Valentine and Moten. They were clear reaches but Valentine and Moten have been higly ranked and sought after from the get go. Jenkins was a find that seemed to blow up during senior year.

Shannon's last two years, zero DTs taken. Hard to find a worse couple of years in any college.

You never have enought good DTs. We have not had any. Randy left none and Al wasn't able to get any that mattered-- until now. This years haul is bery nice. These three all look like they can make a difference. It would be nice if they were filling in depth but we need them immediately. Chad, Harris, & Jackson make this and outstanding Dline class, but it would be nice to have more DTs. JC, more DT's and Cook - in that order. I know Cook is special but we have a start at RB and Joe coming in, we have nothing of the sort at DT. Just some big boys on the way. Although I could live with Cook being first on that list.

This was a huge weekend for the staff picking up 2 Safeties, we desperately need depth and talent back there and I think we got that.

Bummer on Kaaya, hopefully things change and he can make it in, but I'll be happy to have him here whenever he makes it down.

this post is funny, only one on your list that was first choice by staff was the only one remaining, Moore! The others came out of a fire drill, when Forston(sp?) left without giving coaches notice, and the NCAA, surprised, ruled again Ojomo, getting an extra year, which coaches thought was possible. Both of the either guys were like plan E's, that's why they are no longer here.

Don't get me wrong, we probably need another impact player at DT, but what we have coming in looks light years ahead of anything we could get happy about in about a decade.

Going to be interesting to see Kaaya make it into this class. If this is new news, would not surprise me if one of the local kids did not get a call from the coaches.

Kaaya may not make it in as an EE. But he still should be in the overall class.

Maybe he can take the class on-line?

I guess my memory is just fuzzy, but I don't remember people being extremely excited about the Moore, Ivory, Briscoe haul.

I think people at the time were excited just to have ANY DTs because it was so late in the game.

Not me. I have been steadfast mope squad on this subject for a long *** time now, including that signing day.
