The Work 12-15 (Weekend Recap)

**Miami went from having no safeties in the class to two in a matter of three days. Marques Gayot gave his pledge on Friday and gave his word to Al Golden and practice. New Jersey product Kiy Hester committed to the staff this morning, but wanted to wait until he told his mother in person until he made the news public. The coaches were hoping to get Hester locked up by the end of the weekend and that’s just what they did.

**Miami was in a good spot with J.C. Jackson before the weekend and after the last few days, it’s safe to say that Miami leads. Jackson will not shut down the process yet, but it is looking more and more in Miami’s favor. Jackson will play defense here and safety is a possibility, not just cornerback. It would be a huge get for Miami if they can lock up Jackson. The Canes have been stockpiling elite defensive back talent going on three years now.

**Dennis Turner officially decommitted from Miami tonight in a move that had been expected for a while now. Turner had committed to Miami over the summer after receiving an offer at an Al Golden Football Camp, but the staff had cooled on him in the recent months. Turner got the memo and decommitted tonight.

**I said yesterday to look out for a Brayden Lenius offer this week, but that will most likely come after the Dead Period is over. The Dead Period starts Tuesday and goes through January 3rd.

**I also mentioned last night to watch out for Nigel Bethel’s recruitment. There is some talk that he is not fully qualified yet, so that could be a reason for the uncertainty. As is always the case with grades, we will not know if the rumors are true until the prospect has enrolled in classes.

**A Champagnat Catholic coach told me tonight that Travonte Valentine is likely to stick with Miami. LSU and Alabama have been coming hard after the mammoth lineman, but the Canes seemed to have held off that surge well.

**As the days go on, it is becoming less and less likely that Brad Kaaya will be able to enroll early at Miami due to a policy at his school. Kaaya needs another religion class to graduate at his high school and it is going to be tough for him to get around that. His commitment is still solid with the Canes and he will play in the California State Title next weekend.

Good stuff, Pete.

I thought Kaaya already won the CIF title with the win against Serra?

Good stuff on Valentine.

Sucks Kaaya couldn't enroll early, would be surprised if he makes noise at the QB position next season. IMO

I thought Bethel was sure he could ee. What happened with that? I know he stayed for track but wheres this academic rumor coming from?

Pete, you know if Kiy is an EE?

Peter it's looking more and more like Kaaya is our future at QB.

CIF is the city title, they are playing for the state championship now.

Don't be surprise if Lenius gets the offer by Tuesday. Carroll started following him on Twitter today. I believe he will offer before the dead period in order to get ahead of the stampede of schools that will be after him once the dead period is over

I'm a little concerned about Bethel...it was funny how before he was an EE, then he said he wanted to run track for his team thats why he no longer is a EE..but it seems to me that his grades are the reason he didn't and he probably is focusing on that, more than just running track...I would have hated for him to be a EE, and can't get in cause of grades...just my opinion

We do things different in California. After CIF finals are over a committee chooses teams from Southern California and Northern California to play in a state title game. There's a about 4 games separated by division.

Pete, is it worrisome that Chad Thomas took his official this early?

I was hoping to counter the January visits with a final visit. Here...now we blew our wad.

No, I would be very surprised if he doesn't sign here

I'm well aware of how it is in California, I'm an Arcadia resident.....although when I was in HS in the late 90s we didn't have a state title game like that.

Pete is Brayden Lenius gonna be a take not matter what or is he just a back up plan for Njoku/Griffin?

Gray would be a beast on offense somewhere, actually like him better than Dixon and Lane at receiver. If we have enough safety depth, I wouldn't try to move him to a side of the ball he's never played.

Gray is not likely to make it in, so right now I really don't consider him apart of the class when I'm looking at numbers.
