Polendey looks like the only legit TE we have on the roster who has experience working with the team. He is a good receiver but more of a solid blocker.
He was 223 lbs. at the Nike and last was listed at 230 lbs on the roster.....in the off season he needs another 15-20 or so quality bulk.
Have you heard anything on his weight now?

If Polendey was any good he would have played last weekend instead of a DE who has been playing TE for 4 weeks. When Patchan was out there bumbling around at TE against Syracuse that told me a lot about Polendey.

I'm still holding out hope because he's young, but you're probably right. Someone in a thread also mentioned that Patchan's dad was at the game because his team was honored at halftime or something which could also explain why he got burn, but I don't see Richt as the type to do something like that.

If Rick is playing daddy ball in a hotly contested conference game he should be fired and institutionalized immediately. People come up with the most idiotic **** theories imaginable on the internet.

I think it's more that he doesn't want to burn Polendey's RS for a few snaps because Irvin is in the doghouse.

If Irvin wasn't to come back that might change.

It's good we didn't get the transfer at RB. Yall acting like we're in a dire situation at RB. Fact is Homer is a good RB. Chocolate, Deejay, and Burns are more talented than most ACC teams even have on their roster. Yall can say they aren't ready to play all you want but if they are forced to play, we will still have a better player at RB than most P5 teams. Is it the best situation? Obviously not. But It's not that big of a deal because RB is an easy position for a True Frosh to play.

We are in a much worse position at TE than we are at RB. And its not even close imo. I don't think getting a grad transfer would be that bad of an idea. I do think Jordan will be ready to play, but how good of a blocker will he be as a True Frosh? Cause Irvin isn't very good at it if he is even still on the team next yr. Polendey isn't ready this year, but will he be next year? Mallory is definitely too small to make an impact next year in the run game. I think he could get PT in the passing game for sure though. Unless Patchan shows he can step up for us at TE, I think a Grad Transfer would be solid IF we have room for one.

Thanks.

I think Nesta wants to wait til February because he wants to see whether mcintosh and Norton declare for the draft. Maybe Nesta wants a decent shot at being one of the top 4 DTs and knows that likely won't happen if either or both of those guys return.

Norton leaning towards leaving.

I love the play of both Norton & McIntosh, but if we are going to lose 1 to the draft, I rather it be Norton bc Jon Ford looks like a 1 technique monster! Hope both come back bc then our D line would be straight filthy

What the point of bringing in some scrub juco guy who sucks and isn't gong as make much of an impact? It's pointless and I bet the staff doesn't go out and get a body. It's a wasted Scholly.

**** the 2001 team was a Dorsey injury away from accomplishing nothing. Very tough for a college teams to have perfect depth at every position every year in cfb. Hardly ever happens.

RB is a position we can get solid play from by True Freshman. Plus we had Walton, Homer, Gray, Burns, and Deejay - 5 guys that can all play.

TE is different. At this point its more likely Irvin wont be on the team. That would mean we'd literally have 3 TE's on the roster. Polendey who will be a Redshirt Frosh, and two True Freshman in Jordan and Mallory. And Mallory doesn't have the size to contribute as an inline TE as a True Freshman. That is not much to go into a season with. Its like 10times worse than we entered this season with at RB. At RB we at least had 3 guys with experience returning. At TE we have 3 guys total and NONE have any playing experience!

Scott Patchan will likely have to play TE full time next year.
If irvin leaves, we definitely need to consider adding a grad transfer. You know if we only had 3 TEs but one was a senior, one was a Redshirt Sophmore, and one was a frosh, I wouldn't be worried. But 3 Freshman, is bad.

Langham is not a TE, or at least not your traditional TE (though he could possibly play it). I don’t think Mallory is either. I see Mallory as a Kelvin Benjamin type, too.

Pure insanity.

It doesn't matter if Dallas and Burns "are more talented", they are pure freshmen and they are not ready to play. Gray isn't much better.

Then you have the factor of how many times a running back touches the ball vs. a tight end. Again, no comparison. A running back takes the ball and has to navigate through the defensive line. A tight end is usually covered by one DB or LB, or is tackled by one DB or LB.

Finally, think about this simple issue. Trayone Gray did not play at all against Syracuse, while Patchan did.

The bottom line is that we have more depth at TE than we do at RB.

I’m not saying he has the freakish athletic ability of Matt Jones/Calvin Johnson/Julio Jones but if he runs sub-4.60 at the combine in 3 years it wouldn’t surprise me. He looks like he’s just beginning to figure out how good he can be... SCARY!

Kelce, Shockey, Olsen, Graham, Njoku have the same athletic ability, to me - except all have better hands than Njoku. But, Benjamin has the SAME level of athletic ability of Kelce and the former UM, NFL TE’s, not different. He’s just used differently. Remember the arbitration with Graham (“if you’re going to use me like a WR, pay me like a WR)...Kelce is used a lot more like a wide-out than a traditional TE.

Mallory seems to be more athletic than Langham (and I think Langham is just beginning to scratch the surface of his ability). Mallory can be a wide-out.

I understand your point but comparing RB depth with TE depth is like oranges with apples - there are a lot of plays where you need 2 tight ends on the field at the same time while most of the time you only use 1 rb on field.

You keep harping on depth when, in actuality, your quarrel seems to be with the talent. There's plenty of depth there as of 6 games into the season.

Sure, I get that. And if you are running plays where you need 2 TEs, and you are desperate to get someone out there, then you put Langham or Cager in that spot. It's not ideal, but it will work in a pinch.

I'm not talking about depth "in formations" per se, I'm talking about the risk of injury, and why you would need "depth". A RB is going to take a lot more contact, and more risky contact, than a TE is. Your chances of losing a RB to injury are far greater than what you see with a TE.

That's all. It's not a big "argument" really, it's just an observation of the reality of the situation. If someone says that our TE depth is a far bigger problem than our RB depth, I just think that is nutty, given what each position involves. And I'm not talking about moving any of our big WRs to TE permanently, I'm just saying that if you need an extra TE in certain formations, line up a big WR if you don't trust Patchan or Irvin or Polendey on the field.

And think about it...we have 3 scholarship players who could go (or have gone) onto the field as TEs besides Herndon. Can we say the same thing about the RBs behind Homer?

Just being honest...

Review our history over the past 35 years. How many RBs have gone down with season-ending injuries...and how many TEs have gone down with season-ending injuries?

Respectfully, you're wrong.

The issue is not whether a freshman CAN get ready to play RB. The issue is whether OUR freshmen are ready to play RB. And they are not.

Dallas just got moved to RB, from a practicing-to-get-ready-to-play standpoint, in the last few weeks. The comments by our RB coach indicate that he has not yet picked up enough about pass protection to be ready to be trusted on the field. Yet.

As for Burns, he isn't cleared to play, and he won't play this year. I don't know if the coaches have formalized that conclusion, but that's the reality, even if some people are so desperate to claim depth that we're going to put a fragile kid on the field before he's had a year in our strength and conditioning program to improve his durability.

And now you are claiming a walk-on, who was just given a scholarship, as if he is on the same level as RECRUITED scholarship players.

Whatever. You're always right. You were absolutely DESTROYING Tweed and Lingard before Lingard committed, even though people tried to convince you that Lingard was a Miami lock.

I have tremendous respect for you and your thought process, but if Homer goes down with a season-ending injury, we have NOBODY who can be entrusted to play an entire game, and we have our two toughest games ahead of us. Trayone Gray didn't even play in the offense against Syracuse. Nor did Deejay Dallas. Burns might never play, and Super Walk-On is not the answer.

Yes, they are all talented. They COULD be ready to step in for Homer. But they are not ready yet.

Nobody is saying that any grad transfer would be a perfect replacement for either Walton or Homer. But a grad transfer who was at Clemson for multiple years is a better bet to be able to line up and give some pass protection, or take a few carries, or serve as an outlet receiver.

If Homer goes down, Rosier is going to be our leading rusher AND he'll be throwing 50 passes per game. And that didn't work out so well for Dungey at the end of the Syracuse game.

I’m pretty sure that’s what happened.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but you can see why the NCAA could question transcripts. And how can a student possibly be stopped from graduating a semester early if he has fulfilled all the qualifications to graduate?

****, if anything, THIS is what the NCAA should be dealing with. Academic issues.

NCAA is a complete joke

True, on the enforcement side. I just don't understand why there is even a "Clearinghouse" if kids can just transfer high schools for a month, or miraculously complete over a year of high school credit in a week with "correspondence courses".

Just delegate that correspondence work. Set up a team, divide up the assignments. You can do it in a week. Now transferring to a new school and actually attending classes before start of Christmas holiday in time to graduate before start of new college semester in January seems a bit more problematic. Maybe there's an exam at end of semester so it's manageable if it's open book and you get the answers in advance. If you have to turn in a paper, here again, teamwork is your friend.

It's all doable.

I don't understand why this is so difficult for people to understand.
If we were forced to play Deejay Dallas I guarantee he'd be at least an average ACC RB. Dude has the talent. The biggest problem with him likely will come in pass protection. His actual Running ability would be solid.
