We talked about the defense yesterday, but here is the latest on Miami's offensive strategy in the Transfer Portal.

- I don't get the sense it's Ty Simpson or bust. They are working multiple angles at quarterback and it's obviously the main focus other than winning the sixth national championship. I'm expecting the unexpected.

- I previously thought Josiah Thompson (South Carolina) would be in this class, but it appears we may be moving in another direction. One possibility is adding a guard and moving Matt McCoy to tackle.

- The expectation remains that Mark Fletcher, Jr. returns to school. If he does, I wouln't anticipate major changes in the running back room.

- Both receiver commits (Vandrevius Jacobs and Cam Vaughn) appear locked in despite the uncertainty at quarterback. The staff is ecstatic about both.

- I expect Miami to continue to monitor the Portal for an impactful TE. While a pure blocking TE is an option, don't be surprised to see even more unbalanced lines to take advantage of the Canes' deep stable of young offensive linemen.

- The early freshmen arrivals look the part. One source said, "I'm glad Somourian Wingo is on scout team and not on Indiana." He's had some big days. Some other names mentioned were Jackson Cantwell, Keyshawn Stancil, Camdin Portis, and JJ Dunnigan. "These guys look freakier than the guys preparing to play for a national championship."

I’m never worried about OL with Mario but McCoy really will need to take a leap if he’s going to cement himself as next years LT. Hopefully Bell comes back but if not that will be something to watch.

Seems like Samson has found a natural fit at G and staff seems to expect RT to be filled by Cantwell

QB is the only real major question mark. Mario gunna have to pull a rabbit out of the hat

He would need to get a injury waiver for last year to be eligible.

There is extended deadline for CFP teams to Jan 23rd to declare I believe

mario has been a te coach alot during his career so it would fall on him.

they arent trying to pay money for a te is all. The position isnt really focal in dawsons offense. If they can get an upgrade for cheap i guess they are on it....all those big names in the portal they werent gonna go for.

That's the problem. You nailed it. Teams that play in the NC game (Miami and Indiana) can have players leave via the portal after the portal ends for the non-competing teams. So, though not probable, but certainly possible, Indiana/Miami can lose 10 guys to the portal, and not be able to fill those spots since the portal is closed to other teams, AND there is no fall portal.

why cant they fillt hose spots?. the portal isnt closed. There is always grad transfers and guys already int he portal can continue to be recruited.
