Disappointing news on Pena. Signing Pena and getting Toney playing time are not mutually exclusive. Sure…Pena might cause Ray Ray to hit the Portal but that’s a risk we should be willing to take.

Also, Pena does not mean we can’t sign an outside receiver with speed.
Hmmmmm, not so fast.

No doubt, that’s 1 from 2 cycles ago. Can you think of more?

I keep assuming that because our staff has expert recruiters, we know how to back channel. If that's not the case, then shame on me for believing they're better than they are.

I mean kinda but not really since we had Restrepo returning who we saw as our WR and good pairing in slot with Cam and Dawson's offense. And George had a good season and they absolutely expected Horton to also take the jump kinda like they expect Trader to this yr, though I think they expect more from Trader than they did Horton. They wanted a deep throat with Brown. This yr I absolutely think we need a better WR than we did last year, without a doubt
I think that is also revisionist...the vibe around here at this point last season, generally speaking, was that Restrepo was just a product of his friendship with Van Dyke and not a true #1, George was a head case, Horton was a Grentree All American...we all wanted a true #1 and we kept striking out on them. Brown was a great add especially given the slim pickings last spring, but to your point, just a deep threat / complimentary guy with traits to potentially become a #1 if everything hit right.

I mean we signed Jojo last year who was all world coming out and still brought in portal guy over him. Now we we're saying we are good to rool with a true freshman and turning down incoming talent. We brought in Carson Beck for a reason let's maximize him

George was a head case, but imo it was we need to get a number 1 AND move on from George. If we weren't moving on from George it absolutely reduced the need to get a top Top WR imo. I was saying we should get a top WR and go away from George. Nobody was really saying George wasn't good though, which is important.
And idk who the **** actually thought Restrepo wasn't going to be productive, they were absolutely full of **** if they thought that lol.

I think the wanting a top WR was more Winter portal than Spring. Once we had Cam and we're sticking with George the portal WR demands were significantly reduced.

That is different than this year where I think in Winter we should absolutely have added the best WR we could have (which is why we had them all visit!) but entering spring WR need is actually even higher now with Carrs departure. Even now though an addition like Sam Brown would likely be viewed as the exact type of guy we need and viewed as a "win". Now with Carr leaving and imo Ray Ray not being good we NEED two WRs honestly....

For all of the, “better WRs will enter, no need for this kid” people….

Can you tell me the great impact WRs that have entered the Spring portal the last 2 cycles? Legit question.
For context, we ended up with Sam Brown last year, after being in a similar position. I liked the pickup at the time, but he underwhelmed and was not even a top 3 WR on this team. So again, give me some names of guys who entered in Spring portal that yall would have taken?
I agree with your point which is why personally I'd just hop on the Pena bandwagon and lock him up asap. He's likely good enough where he's definitely going to end up a top 3-5 wr in this portal period. So yeah even though we may prefer/really want an outside wr (imo thats not BECAUSE of Toney, it's because they think JoJo and Daniels can also be slot guys) he's a known quantity that IS pretty good with a high floor.

However there are some pretty obvious problem notably his injury history as well. He has had one good season and is like 23. Maybe the age is a positive for us though. I doubt hes a guy that is gonna be drafted high at all....

However if the rumor was us and Texas Tech I think they are absolutely going to be spending big at WR. They really need a WR pretty sure... So that ma

I’ve said all along, Miami needs to sign a slot and outside alpha

Pena will help teach Toney how to play the position and would be a great asset to the room

Miami is 1000% interested in Pena

Will they meet his price, though?

This. All of the sudden the whole "iron sharpens iron" mantra is thrown out the door and we don't need to stack talent because we have a promising freshman. We blew the cam ward opportunity. Don't blow the beck one too. Its time to go all in on this roster before the new rules come down for next year.

why do you assume you won't with the talent in the room? You've written off Toney for the year because he's a freshman?

Toney is not leaving (wishful thinking…I know). It’s RayRay that might bolt if we bring in Pena.
You think he will stick around if he's relegated to the bench this year and they recruit over him again? It's the same story every year.
Guys step up. It happened last season. The guy that came in took the longest to produce anything.

I think the lack of decent QB play this spring really hampered everyone's perception of the WR room. If Beck had been able to throw, it might be a different mindset right now..

So Adidas helps us with Keys but we all think we're going to soon go back to Nike and that helps with Cantwell?

You referring to RayRay, right? If so, yeah…he leaves if they recruit over him and I would not blame him in the slightest. Toney, on the other hand, should stay, learn, develop and play some in every game. The following year it’s his job to lose.

I’m just here for the annual “there’s an unnamed SEC stud receiver that we’re trying to poach we’ll know within the week” conversation before we end up with this years version of Sam Brown or Frank Ladson or whatever and then the portal closes and it’s like “yeah we had Zay Flowers thhhhhiiiissss close”. **** makes me feel alive.

You know it, and then the people who are saying let Pena go and he isn’t good enough, will be begging for us to pursuit and for him to come to UM. It’s coming.

I’ll only believe you attended practice if you insist on telling us Lofton is the best player on the team for no reason
The last practice I attended was Thursday (prior to Spring Game) and he tweaked his hamstring and shut it down after the first couple of drills. He certainly did not look like the best player on the team that day!!
