Exactly why the te coach is an important higher like i said lol

It doesn’t matter how you asess lofton, he is a 6’2(being generous) hb playing te lol. Thats not gonna be a high level starter here or in any scheme that asks the tight end to play in line.

Im not even focusing on the mismatches or using them in the pass game, everyone does that as if thats their main role. The main role of most tight ends are in inline in the run game, its hard to develop a hb into a high level in line blocker idc how much time you pour into him

It confuses me people that say they know football think tight ends aren’t heavily integrated into our offense already, they are very very important already but people keep viewing them as a 4th wr. We already use them like most nfl teams use their tight ends, we just don’t have good ones
Lofton is a VERY good blocker by the way. Making them nothing but a glorified tackle isn't integrating them properly into the offense. All it's doing is allowing a defense to play down on us routinely. That's not at all what NFL teams do by the way. It's not about them being a fourth wr JUST like it's not about making them a 6th lineman... In no part of the game do you want to be predictable. That's not good coaching. That's just stupidity. Integrating the position would be getting versatility out of the position schematically. Not making us dependant on their ability to block. If that's what y'all want then don't complain about what we get out of the position.

They aren’t only glorified tackles tho, thats not what im saying. Im saying people literally only view them from the lens of a wr when thats only half of their role.

So people saying dawson doesn’t use them are misinformed, they are very important to our run game, which is the foundation of our team. If they were viewed as a 6th oline, teams would have put another dlineman or lb on the field, they did not

The problem is they aren’t good receivers, they aren’t really good blockers either its a room full of mid players. Them being mid receivers allows teams to play down not because they aren’t threats in our pass game schematically but because they are just mid, they couldn’t play down when we had arroyo who was high level at both, especially wr.

They run real routes but they dont seperate well and are mostly the 3rd or 4th read because the mof is occupied by our wr1, and our qb this past year will drop his eyes before getting to that progression

And 90% of nfl TEs have to block well to play, especially with the shift the league has made these last few years. Why are you on the field if your role is just a big wr? We can just put another real wr on the field, so blocking inline is the most important things for a TE, calling them a 6th olineman is just not understanding what TEs are. Just go look at all the top offenses this year

NFL teams have straight up decided that they're using extra tackles because TEs can't block well enough anymore. And it's working, actually. 6 OL is a thing for next season that will see increased usage.

The way how we use TEs at this point, I'd rather have us have a swing tackle in there in bigger personnel groupings. The moment you have a second TE on the field, defense is calling base every single time. Might as well put actual beef on the field.

But I'd still rather have a TE who can't block a LB compared to a TE who can't catch a lick but is okay at blocking LBs. I'm sorry, but the chance of getting an elite blocker in college is close to zero in the first place and the chance of obtaining a player who can do both well is non-existent.

Cole McConathy to TE is an interesting move. I don't see a prolific pass catcher. Maybe he can be a great inline blocker??
Well he's a Junior next season and hasn't played a lick at DE, so short of transferring out this seems to be his only option to see the field.

Honestly it’s gonna be frustrating to see Schott turn into a player for Indiana. He showed he could be a playmaker with the ball in his hands granted it was Bethune but he showed he just needed the ball in his hands

Thing I hate most about Dawson when he gets questioned about position rotations or why so and so isn’t seeing time he immediately just dumps it on the position coach.

like bro your the OC with a very nice hand given to you by Mario and the Collective… you not being able to maximize said talent is frustrating.

It’s not like he’s an ace recruiter we don’t hear about him at all in the trail except for his crappy QBs he picks

It was mentioned that Schott had such a horrible time catching footballs, there was no route for him to get on the field.

I am sure they envisioned him to be what Arroyo was, and if you can't catch the ball in that role, there's no playing time for you.

And considering Schott transferred back home, I also assume he just wanted to be closer to his family.

Agreed on all things except crappy QBs. Biggest problem is well simply never see any of them developed here at this rate. We need a dedicated actual QB coach with a proven history at the position. Need some accountability. It's **** to have these kids come here and put their beliefs in us and we just throw that away & put no value in it strongly dislike that.

Honestly the only QB I’ve liked that we got was Nickels and I guess he’s now the defacto backup so we’ll see more of him to see if he can get the ball to the playmakers better than Emory.

Judd was a miss when you compare him to the local kid who shall not be named.

Coleman is interesting but man he looks tiny gonna need at least two years to get his body right.

Emory has heart but dam he had a popgun of an arm.

@DMoney …. So to your understanding Monds is below those 3 on Dawson's board?
I don’t mean this in a bad way - you’ve got to be one of if not the biggest high school recruiting junkie on here. Do you follow the portal the same way?
