As far as Shirreffs is concerned an unnamed staffer said Shirreffs was leading the pack until he fumbled multiple snaps and forced some throws in a scrimmage.

Malik Rosier, Vincent Testaverde emerge as Miami Hurricanes backup QBs | Canes Watch

Maybe it was hand injury but he made mistakes in an 11 vs 11 setting and it cost him.

It makes sense that someone with a hand injury would fumble multiple snaps.

The hand injury wouldnt account for him forcing throws. Another factor that Richt pointed to in his last public comments on the matter. Testaverde and Rosier were credited with making better decisions and then Rosier won the job in the final 2-3 weeks. So Shirreffs went from first according to one staffer to being third or fourth. And that hasn't seemed to have changed in the last 8-9 months.

Austin just confirmed that Shirrefs was talking second team snaps at the end of last season. I've also been told that he has been rotating in with the 1s through the first few days of spring.

I'm not understanding the Shirreffs hype, just like I didn't understand the Gus hype. The starters will be Rosier or Allison, period. The only player who might challenge is Perry...but he may get the RS. I think, imho, it will be Allison w Rosier backing up.

He took those reps and remained 3rd string. So if Kaaya was injured it doesn't appear he had done enough to be next in line. He didn't sub in for Kaaya against Duke in the 4th quarter. It doesn't appear much has changed since.

He's taking first team reps as you would expect in this competition but it has been reported that he's third in the pecking order behind Rosier and Allison when it comes to the drills. In QB-Center exchange drills who is lining up with Gauthier the current starter at Center? Maybe we'll see change there after the first week is over. The Shirreffs observations are interesting but at this point none of that is playing out on the depth chart.

who starts for us game 1 this fall?

I've already answered that I don't know who will be the starter.

Thank you for being such a reasonable poster on the board. It's refreshing to read comments that aren't always in lock-step with the group-think or co-signing for the guys who started the board.

You're welcome!

look, a guy actually on the team, who actually caught passes from all of these QB's every single day, apfenny3, claims that shirreffs has looked the best to him & may have the best chance to start. didn't guarantee him to start. didnt say the other guys werent talented and had no shot. and certainly hasnt said anything that would warrant the degree to which you respond whenever this topic gets brought up.

of course you're absolutely allowed to have another opinion on who will start. no one has denied you that or argued with you on that. But, you tend to go ballistic at the mere mention of sherriffs having a chance at starting. this is not the first time you have done this:

by all means, generate a discussion about it. but, i personally find it weak how you will go to the extreme to point out how absurd it is that guys would even discuss shirreffs as an option, while at the same time, won't stick your neck out and predict a starter. if your shtick on this QB thing is going to be the over the top, confident contrarian guy, then follow through all the way on it.

name your starter.

I've already answered the question. Re-Read the original quoted post you decided to edit. LOL

Or, is that not good enough because I didn't pick 1 guy?

And I won't disrespect you by suggesting that you don't know the difference between "having a chance" and "having a great chance".

Shirreffs has a great chance of being the starter

I've also listened to the podcast where the same "guy actually on the team, who actually caught passes from all of these QBs every single day" mentioned that Shirreffs was one of his best friends on the team.

You don't think he might have just a little bit of bias on this subject??

But we can just agree to disagree. The kid will play QB at Miami, or he won't. But it won't be solved in this thread, or on this board.

Apologies if my responses hurt any Shirreffs supporters.

It's just my opinion ...

So is Cade Weldon just being wrote off as not having a chance?

MIATL

yes, i think apfenny3 is capable of being biased.

sure, change it to "having a great chance". the point still remains. as has been pointed out here, he was in the battle for the #2 spot all year behind kaaya. i think that qualifies as a great chance. i think rozier also has a great chance. i think allison has a good chance. i think weldon and perry have a chance.

name your starter.

Rosier may have not distinguished himself in practice but he distinguished himself in game time on the road in the only chance EVER he had to prove himself. People keep knocking him saying it was only one game. Ignoring the fact that the others had ZERO game experience.

Give me a QB who may not be a practice hero, who doesn't only excels when he knows that no defender will knock his teeth out but who can do it on the road even if only once.

You all talk about size, arm strength, accuracy and pocket awareness but ignore the biggest attributes (at least to me) which are toughness, leadership, respect of your teammates and winning mentality.

Hate Tebow but he did that. I won't forget that **** playoff game where he threw the pass to DeMaryius Thomas in OT.

I told you guys Evan was coming. Kid has a decent arm and is real smart.

The smart money is on Rosier to start this year and Allison to get a shot as back up.
