The myth that you can’t find OL in South Florida is starting to crumble. Last year, five local linemen signed with Top 10 schools (LSU, Oregon and Florida). Overall, the region produced eight P5 linemen and 13 overall FBS signees. This year’s class is even better than last year’s at the top. It’s not quite as deep, although many players on this list would have more offers if there was a spring evaluation period.
Schools are starting to notice. Clemson grabbed a local sleeper in ’19 and already has a big commitment in ’21. Even an unexpected school like Arizona has signed local OL in the last two classes and offered a ton more. Miami, led by Garin Justice, is looking to correct the mistakes of Butch Barry by prioritizing local talent. If all goes well, Miami will sign at least three of the players on this list.
Marcus Tate, University School (6’5, 326)- Massive dancing bear with footwork, flexibility and balance. Has been the most impressive player on the camp circuit since his sophomore year. Experienced pass blocker who plays with patience and technique. Basketball background. Easily beat much-smaller athletes in the UA agility challenge before losing a nail-biter to Dallas Turner, whom he outweighs by 100 pounds. Laurence Seymore, Central (6’2, 293)- Looks like a G5 player on the hoof, plays like the best player in the city. Freakishly strong hands. Lines up at LT for Central but projects inside due to height. Alpha-dog personality who has been dominant since his youth days. Outstanding feet and always on balance with easy bend. Moves like a fullback in space. Miami commit and brother is a ’23 Miami commit at WR.
Ryan Rodriguez, Columbus (6’3, 280)- Emerging prospect with elite intangibles and underrated physical traits. Leader of first state championship team in Columbus history, where he paved the way for Henry Parrish. Plays through the whistle consistently. LT in high school but projects inside. Big frame for a center with broad back, long arms and strong hands. Dominated at the camp circuit against four- and five-star competition. Excellent hand placement and overall technique.
