As for Houston IV. I like him but from someone who deals with SFE on day to day basis. Steed > Houston IV from what I was told. That has been my opinion regardless of that statement.

The one in 2018 who needs to be watched out for is Robert Hicks from Booker T Washington. Was told from my SFE connect he could be the next big time thing down here in 2018 at LB. Only worry right now is his frame, because he's about 6'3" 220-230 and they think he might grow into a DE. I was told he carries the weight very well and moves just as good as Steed.

Booker T had three to watch out for in 2018. Now 2, because Marlon Pelote transferred to Chaminade to play safety. The two are Robert Hicks and Jaquan Beaver. Another one in Donovan Georges from Champagnat but I'm concerned with his competition. JAX has one in Eriq Gilyard at Trinity Christian.

I've watched a lot of film for 2018. As of now, the tri-county not as nearly loaded in 2018 at LB as it is in 2017. 2016 was a weak year as well outside of Rice from Norland IMO.

Also. People sleeping heavy on Steed because he missed his junior year.

From when I watched these guys as sophomores last offseason. Steed was the best all around linebacker. Best instincts and high football IQ as DMoney mentioned.

He's a take all the way.

I understand the reason why a few people are sleeping cause he didn't play as a junior but he's primed for a huge year. We need him here.

Don't see how you limit it to 2 with this many talented kids who seem to be interested. Take 3 monsters and then only go after the super elite kids in 2018 (5 star types or high 4 star kids from our core HS group).

This and it fits in well from what I have come across as far as the talent in LBs in tri-county last year I've watched in 2016 and next cycle in 2018 in the tri-county area.

2017 was blessed regarding LBs.

F-agot is good and I like him better than dunning and others but... Wilder, Miller, steed are better IMO

He can be just as good. My main concern is the competition as me and others pointed out. If he heads to STA this year like he thought about last year and adjusts well to the competition. You take him, no questions asked.

Seems like a good reason to take more than 2 this cycle. Just way too much talent to limit to 2

For my money I'm taking Miller, Houston, Wilder and Steed. F'agan with some sort of hybrid role

I liked Donovan Thompson a lot from central but he lacked size for major D1s to go after him in 2016.

Yes Robert Hicks has been blowing up lately. He will definitely be a guy to keep an eye on in 2018!!!

We lost a f'agot to Tennessee this cycle. We need one in 2017.

My only concern is him fitting in the locker room. Unless he's being homeschooled because he's a danger to society, homeschooling plus horribly unfortunate name plus Christian school plus horrible competition could lead to extreme shock for the guy when he gets around some of the goons Richt is bringing in.

Houston is that deal. SFE express coaches coach flag football so their opinion is invalid when it comes to LB play...other than if they understand what coverages look like, and where to be in coverage. Other than that...its hard to see how good an lb is in that type of setting...though Houston is pretty good in coverage....I watched him @ camp setting last off season look pretty good against his peers. He's a big kid about 6'1-6'2 215-220. So since Steed hasn't played his junior year..we cant tell who is better.....Houston is likely a SAM backer anyway...

My early Wants @ LB:

Steed
Miller
Houston
Fegot

On the bubble, honorable mention: Wilder

I'd take 4 in this class....I expect attrition at LB...some kids we currently have aren't um level. We got to keep churning the roster imo.

Looks like we might not have to leave S.FLA for LB's this year... things will start to shake it self out by summer though....I wanna see how Steed looks now..he was a beast when I first watched him. Houston I'm bias on since I know personally.lol

LOL at the jab.

That's actually a really fair point IMO. Goons galore in the Gables

Houston's best attribute is his closing speed IMO. Once he has made his read, he's lightning in a bottle

Surprised you have Wilder on the bubble. Is it due to him being a little raw? Because I feel the tools and proven against tough competition is there. He can run for a LB too. 10.8 in 100m according to Pete article on him.

I agree with you going for 4. Really should be 3-4 this year and I think they will see that with the lack of quality at position on roster, and how loaded this year is for LBs, compared to other years in tri-county.

Feel they would be leaving a lot on the table, only taking 2 in a year like this. Considering we need to fix the quality at the position on roster.

I love Houston IV speed and range but I felt wanting more of pop at point of contact when he tackles. Find him to be more of arm and drag catch tackler.

As I said earlier. My opinion is Steed and Wilder. Decide between F'agot and Miller at MLB(If F'agot can adjust to competition at a school like STA, you take him IMO.). If we take a 4th, go between Miller, Kearney or Houston IV.... If we go for 4.

Take F'agan as a safety. See how body develops over time. (He's a take regardless, in my mind.)

Good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case I haven’t said it enough, let me repeat it: the Class of ’17 is stacked. Linebacker is no exception. There are all types of ‘backers in this class and a bevy of Power 5 prospects.

Diego F-agot- 6’3, 230 pounds (Cavalry Christian)- The best kept secret in South Florida. When you grow up with a name like F-agot, you’re going to be tough. This guy is huge, plays extremely fast and has excelled in coverage for South Florida’s top 7on7 team. He is home-schooled and plays for a non-FHSAA team so nobody knows about him. FAU just offered, and he will have 20+ offers once people find out about him. Major sleeper.

[HUDL]athlete/2836841/highlights/313141393[/HUDL]

DeAndre Wilder- 6’3, 214 pounds (Carol City)- Rangy speed demon with a knack for the big play. Wilder reminds me of Matthew Thomas physically. Big-time talent who still has a lot of untapped potential.

[HUDL]athlete/3407581/highlights/309921401[/HUDL]

James Houston IV- 6’2, 215 pounds (American Heritage)- Complete linebacker who contributes in every facet of the game. Very explosive, as evidenced by his multiple blocked kicks. Very light on his feet changing directions.

Junior Year Highlight - James Houston, IV highlights - Hudl

Brandon James- 6’3, 200 pounds (Southridge)- Striker. James is skinny, but he has stopping power when he hits. Physically similar to Skai Moore. Can be really good if he gains weight. USCw and West Virginia have offered.

Junior Highlights - Brandon James highlights - Hudl

Raven Saunders- 6’2, 205 pounds (Dwyer via Oxbridge)- Probably the most versatile linebacker in South Florida. Saunders plays RB, S, LB, covers the slot and rushes off the edge. Really talented player who could emerge as one of the top guys in the class.

junior season - Raven Saunders highlights - Hudl

Waynmon Steed- 6’1, 225 pounds (Central)- Very smart and instinctive. Steed started as a youngster on one of the top defenses in the country, which tells you about his football IQ. He missed last year with a shoulder injury, and it will be exciting to see how he looks as a senior.

The Future - Waynmon Steed highlights - Hudl

Chai Hill- 6’1, 215 pounds (South Dade)- Hill reminds me of two guys. The first guy is Gabe Terry, another twitched-up wrestler who caused havoc off the edge. The second guy is Tyree Horton, a fellow Buc who transitioned from pass-rusher to LB (and just signed with TCU out of JUCO). Talented and productive player.

chei hill - Chei Hill highlights - Hudl
Drew White- 6’1, 215 pounds (St. Thomas Aquinas) – Tackling machine with good feet. White really stood out in the Booker T. game. Only knock is that he’s not a thumper as a tackler. Nonetheless, he should be a highly productive college player.

Jamal Gates- 6’2, 210 pounds (Dwyer)- Very explosive athlete who also plays some WR. Plays DE for Dwyer and projects as a 3-4 pass rusher.

Wish we could take more Lbs in this class. But Wilder, Houston and Diego would be must haves for South Florida LBs. Plus the kid from IMG. Hopefully we take 4 but DBs/ DL is a bigger need to the coaching staff IMO.
How many do you see us taking and who are the must haves in your opinion DMoney / Geo

Didn't mention you directly but read through page 2 and 3 on my take.

Steed looks like a stud. Finds the ball well in traffic, gets himself square to the ball, WRAPS UP and brings all of it at the point of attack. I don't think speed will be an issue, his instincts and angles are great and the game is played in boxes not on a track. His fundamentals are much better than that axe murder Miller, who goes for kill shots way too much(can/will be fixed), that will equate to missed tackles on the next level. It's nice to have this debate about guys this talented. Hope we get to see them both on the field at the same time in the orange and green.

Go Canes!

Two is the number I heard but I'd like three. Mike Smith and/or Jamie Gordinier could grow into ends in this defense.

3 and a hybrid like F'agan?

I don't think they would get much PT at DE we are recruiting some beast at that position...

mike smith, jamie gordinier, and james king have no reason to be on this team they are all golden specials....... we need to cleanse the program of the guys who are not miami talent and infuse more talent in these recruiting classes. We should be taking at least 4 linebackers in this loaded class and not 2 due to jag's on the current roster...

i hope we end up with
1. d wilder
2. v miller
3. j houston
4. d faagot or s marchiol
