Not how Mario operates. He gave them both time to find a new job and when Gattis came up empty he knew he had to pull the plug.20/20 hindsight, those two coordinator hires were well worth the wait.
I've been on the Mario bus ever since his name was first floated. My only disagreements with him to date were that he didn't fire Gattass mid-season and that he didn't replace the staff quickly enough.
Mario had to have known in October that Gattass was dead man walking and by Duke that Steele had lost a step. So why'd it take him so f-ing long to hire Dawson? Why'd he have to steal Guidry away from Tulane at the last minute vs taking him straight from Marshall (we probably would have gotten Sam, that safety that went to LSU if he had)? The only explanation is Mario was shooting for much bigger names and we didn't get them. Honestly, I'm happy we didn't.
As far as Mario overriding coordinators, I think that ship has sailed. He's freed up to do what he does best -- lead, establish a culture of relentlessness, recruit like a bat out of ****, pair up with Mirabal to develop the best OL in the nation. The fly wheel is now in motion.
Nah man lol we expected to take a step forward actuallyRegression was gonna come either way but losing your QB1,WR1 who had 109 catches, plus a OC change will make any offense fall off.
you haven’t seen anything yet. In my talks with coach he singled out 3 guys The first name out of his mouth arroyo, the second was George and 3rd was young. You’ve seen two of those guys featured so farIt will be interesting to see. From what I udnerstand, Dawson's offenses are WR dominant and TE is not featured a lot. RBs may get involved but the essence of the offense is through the WRs. Dawson did not use the TE much in Houston but my sense is that he hasn't had a guy like Arroyo to use in his offenses.
Would love to see how he involves the TEs and RBs more in the passing game.
He called plays. Never got duties taken from himI was speaking of my own. I remember being underwhelmed by the choice. Kentucky & Houston fans did not have nice things to say. Also Dana not letting him call plays was a red flag. Glad to be wrong.
One thing I know for sure is if this board hates it, he's probably going to do very well.
The Dawson hire was a great one just based on the simple fact that if Gattless was still here we woulda lost to TAMU, again.
He could completely tank the rest of the season (which he obviously won’t) & I wouldn’t care at all.
He got us our revenge against Jumbo Fisher’s Corch *** & he did it by THROWING THE BALL! We didn’t play safe & sound conservative live to fight another day-ball, we played Fck YOU WE WIN NOW-ball & that’s all that matters.
I was 100% on board with Dawson when he was hired as evidenced by this thread & many others, but I didn’t actually think he was even in consideration or would get hired. I thought for sure Mario was going to settle given how long the search took, but once it was Dawson, it was a Homerun.
Idk how long he stays here, but enjoy him now while we got’em.
Can’t wait to see what he schemes up against FSU’s slow *** Secondary, he’s gonna have a field day with that one!
A&M’s defense is much better than FSU’s, IMO.Especially with the way this offensive line can protect. IMO the FSU defense is very much like the A&M defense, that he obviously torched. I expect a lot of max protect, let TVD stand in the middle of Doak and have a sandwich while our WRs eat their DBs alive.
FSU’s Pass rush is better, but their Secondary is much worse.A&M’s defense is much better than FSU’s, IMO.
jared verse has looked suspect all yearFSU’s Pass rush is better, but their Secondary is much worse.
They gave up over 300yds passing to Boston College & Casellanos isn’t even a high grade passer. He’s a 5’10 Running QB that mostly makes plays with his legs. They also gave up 346yds passing to LSU.
The DLine is the strength of that Defense, but on the backend it’s routes open all day.
Idk why lolNah man lol we expected to take a step forward actually
I mean from the outside looking in I understand your stance but we really had a lot of talent returning. And the kid we thought was our best pure talent is a year older in Matthew golden. He was a top 100 player at WR in hs class before he got the UH commit drop. There’s talent on the team. We produce nfl talent every year and replace at one position or the other here lately. Losing tune and tank was not supposed to have us like this with what we returned periodIdk why lol
Can’t argue against this but like u said from the outside looking in, any team that looses a 2 year starter at qb and a wr that had 90 then 108 catches plus the OC leaves? A fall off is coming, probably shouldn’t be this bad but unless u bama a fall off is comingI mean from the outside looking in I understand your stance but we really had a lot of talent returning. I actually watched both , and I would agree. Now how that works out, we'll see. But I thought depth, speed on the edge, was slanted to Tejas. I think FSU gets a much better push with their inside guys. Tejas also looked faster across the board on defense.A&M’s defense is much better than FSU’s, IMO.
