Can anyone explain what is the advantage of 1 vs 2 over 1 v 1 it would seem our first team o line would benefit from going against the first team d line so what's the advantage of going against back ups

1 v 1 rarely happens until bowl practices.

I don't know the reasoning behind it, but it's true for the vast majority of NCAA programs

It happens because they're trying to find their best 2nd teams guys and where they best fit in. It's no different really than NFL preseason. Good roster management. Trying to get an idea of who their best 55 are. Plus having your 2's playing against your 1's helps build your 2's depth. Gonna need them against FSU, UNC & ND. It also tells me Richt is very comfortable with our #1 's.

Game 4 vs. Georgia Tech - We'll know how the linebackers are then...

These practice and scrimmage summaries are awesome, and also the roster breakdown on the podcast a little while ago. Thanks!

Though Richt has experience against GT, starting one freshman much less 3, is a scary proposition

Any word on Kaaya's velocity and arm strength?

Same as usual. Plenty strong enough for this level IMO. His improvements have been getting a little quicker and moving better in the pocket.

D,

I know someone posted earlier that it's normal for the 1s to go against the 2s but I am not certain about that. Typically that would only be situational. What are your thoughts on it? I would always do my 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s but then for various situations give the 2s a chance to show something. It just seems weird to me.

I thought I read that the some of the backup OL were starting to emerge.....hopefully it's a cohesiveness issue with the whole 2nd unit. The OL & LB health is very concerning. I am just tickled bout the DL....haven't experienced this in 10 yrs

Today was the last day they are doing that according to Richt. Said the team will now be doing 1v1 in prep for game week.

If I remember correctly, Richt stated that the 1's will be going up against the scout team to get ready for FAMU.

Good work D$, thanks.

Great update D Money!

Sounds like the QB position will be pretty scary if Kaaya gets injured this season and/or leaves after this season. Let's hope that someone figures out how to step up pretty soon.

Thanks for your update, D. What about the penalties? Do we play with more discipline now?

Linebacker not getting into dangerous territory depth wise, they already there. DBs too. Injury bug gonna hit sometime during season.

The 1 v 2 thing is going to be the new cause for the worry warts. Pretty sure Richt has an idea of how to practice.

I am sure he does and I am not worried. Just curious as I've never really heard of this being done before. I am sure it is a confidence boost for the 1s and gives guys backups a chance to shine.

They always do this. It generally prevent injuries before the season as well. We went 1 on 1 during most of the spring

Does Richt know Sam Bruce should be on the 1st team because he's on campus?

Richt said its for scouting purposes. He said the 2nd team is better than the scout team and thats why he does it. Example if you want to prepare your first team offense for a opponent defense, you put the 2nd team d out there instead of the scout team. The same for the first team defense. Its much better for them to get looks vs the 2nd team offense than the scout team.

And other programs does 1 vs 2 all the time so dont know why it seems weird to you.

I think some teams run a little 1v1 - for example in 2min offence period. But generally they'll be practicing vs 2's/3's running the other teams looks.

Couple dudes in here ****ed Richt doesn't run the same style practice they run in their NCAA 2014 Dynasty Mode.
