Man we really need JC i hope the staff goes after him our depth is scary bad at the position
I think we should wait to see what our frosh group brings to the table. I'm starting to believe the staff believes they have enough to work with..... I can also Johnson making the move to nickel coach Rumph already said he wants to work with him. If Redwine is a legit replacement like everyone is saying.....this may not turn out to be a bad situation.

What's up with all the **** yards? (especially rushing)

191 yards on 24 carries from the RB unit. (a 7.9 yard average)

I understand that some of those yards probably came against the back-up defense, but I'm also assuming that some of those yards were produced by the back-up offense.

What gives?

I would look at what Walton and Yearby did to get an idea of how the first team defense did against the run, and it's still not great. At least the defense seems to be getting after the QB.

Problem is if you cannot stop the run, you would get the opportunity to get after the QB.
(I wasn't there just speaking in General)

Looks like we're not going fast break on offense if we're lining up under center with 2 backs.

They're definitely getting after the QB but I hope the increased aggression isn't opening up seams in the running game. This same O-line couldn't run the ball at all against our defense last spring. (and we all know how terrible that defense was)

I agree with you here. Yearby had about 6.3 yards a pop, and I believe they said Walton got about 30 on a 3rd and long run.

It's also a bit concerning because this has been a knock on Diaz's scheme for years is getting gashed in the running game. Hopefully it's just that the defense is new and the guys are having some breakdowns that can be corrected.

It's not so much a talent issue but a depth one. Redwine may do fine opposite of Corn and having Johnson in a nickle package is great. But what if one of those guys go down? Especially if Corn misses time we have a huge problem. Mind boggling that with all the south Florida talent the last staff couldn't stock up on cb's.

It's spring and we're going against one another. If the defense shut down the run all afternoon then we'd be worried about the offense. Although I agree I hope we are not going to be overly aggressive in trying to get the qb.

We not ready yet its year one but at least the progran ia being run by a groupthat knows what they r doing. We willhave a tough season but can still win nine if BK takes that leap which it looks like he has.

DMoney, where do you think Kaaya should be with his weight?

smhhhh... i don't know Tenn. CB situation but Byrd passed up possibly starting as a FR for UM...

A lot of it was against the 2s and 3s but there were several explosive runs.

It appears the urban legend of Evan Shirreffs may be true ... From all of these practice reports, sounds like he will be the #2 .

I'm still not sure if that's because he's a legit QB, or because the previous staff was such a failure at QB recruitment ...

I understand the depth issue...my point is we still have frosh coming in to provide depth. How good is Malek Young? Everyone raves over Byrd who is already classified as a safety at UT cuz he doesn't have the footwork right now to play corner, yet we pencled him in at starting CB opposite Corn. This type of hype happens everywhere then a kid like Pickney who everyone on all sites, forums etc...said will certainly shirt is making a strong case to start or be in the rotation. I've decided to wait until our frosh come in to make a final judgement. I'm not saying Young who ran 10.9 recently is a better athlete than Byrd who just ran a 11.66....I'm saying look very closely at the AA game and you can see Young go stride for stride with top notch receivers. All reports indicated that he was a surprise all week. Byrd was beat on that under thrown INT look at the tape. I do think he coulda been a press CB with some work, but safety is his natural position. Young isn't very tall 5'10 190 still good enough to get it done look at the draft Hargreaves, McKenzie, Jones, Fuller etc... all 5'10 ....if you have elite speed, strength and athleticism it doesn't matter if you're 6'0.....all Im saying is you never know til it all unfolds.

the previous staff recruited Kaaya, Sheriffs, and Allison. As bad as they were in most areas, the gratuitous sniping is uncalled for in this one.

That has always been diazs problem in his scheme, that arky game last scares the **** out of me

He's legit. Simple as that.

You take the good, but you will have some bad with aggressive defenses.

Clemson and Brent Venables are a prime example, they can be dominant where they get sacks and TFls, but them give up a 50 yard TD.

They are solid vs. The run pretty consistently though.

Diaz defense will rack up TFLs and sacks, but we are going to give up big plays people.

Big plays happen but when you constantly bring pressure and blitzes it makes the Offense sweat and gives your defense a chance to make big plays as well (sacks, TFL's, INTS, fumbles etc.) I would much rather give up a 30 yard gain and then get a 10 yard sack for loss then watch our team get leaned on for 80 yards in 10 plays all game.

Exactly. This is why everyone should slow their row about how great the play is at LB. Anytime you have RB breaking that means your LB are getting block, late reacting to the run or not scrapeing correctly. But, it's Spring so all of these guys have a lot to learn by the Fall.
