Recruiting Update 6-16

-Yesterday’s de-commitment of Jayron Kearse wasn’t necessarily a surprise, but it is a disappointment because Kearse is an elite athlete who can play almost any position on the field. He is still considering Miami, but don’t expect him to wind up in this class. From the moment he committed, it was always going to be an uphill battle to keep him.

-Some viewed Kearse as a receiver, others as a safety, and even some thought he was a future OLB. As far as how this may affect receiver recruiting for this year’s class, I don’t think it does. Looking at the current commits, Angelo Jean-Louis is the only receiver committed and he should be here in the Spring. I don’t think the staff will be pushing extremely hard for receivers this year for a couple reasons. They were satisfied with last year’s haul at the position and looking ahead to 2014, the local talent at receiver is incredible with Ermon Lane, Adly Enoicy, and Joseph McCrary. Look for the staff to hone in on Stacy Coley. Another name to keep an eye on is Travis Johnson out of Tampa.

-I had an update on Southridge Safety Jamal Carter a few days ago that suggested that Miami was in great shape. Look for him to become a Cane sooner rather than later. A source told me that he is close to committing, he just needs to talk things over with his mom. Carter would be a huge pick-up at defensive back.

-As I posted yesterday, Maquedius Bain was on campus for an unofficial yesterday. While he is still committed to the ‘Noles, the staff has made it clear to him that he is the top defensive lineman on their board. This now makes 4 or 5 unofficial visits by my count that Bain has made to Miami. That is a great sign especially since he doesn’t exactly live extremely close to the school. Bain is also on campus today as well.

-A name that has been talked about a lot during this year’s class is LB Michael Deeb, who reportedly recently received an FSU offer. Deeb is a good player with great size, but the Miami staff does not have interest according to a source. Deeb likes Miami a lot, but the interest isn’t mutual. I like him as a player, but I think there are better options and the staff recognizes that.

Good stuff man, all makes a lot of sense. For an FSu commit Bain sure does spend an awful lot of time with our coaches!

Kearse is going to be a beast but we can replace him.

Lovin these keep em going we are all gonna become a smarter board when it comes to recruitng

Thank u Peter!!! Any update w/ the Alexander twins yet?

Peter do u think we can get all 3 2014 wr and dont you think if fsu gets deebs doesnt that make there chance at Sony much better. Everyone keeps saying he is a cane lock but im not buying it.

i feel like adly is a tight end because he is so slow and is really what you think he plays ?

Pete, what are your thoughts on Bain as a prospect?

How does he compare to Bryant and Bostwick?

hot diggity dog.

all these updates are making my head spin.

After losing Kearse, I think we need to start going after Deeb....who is actually flying under the radar right now.

Bain probably has the most athletic ability of the three. He is a basketball player with huge hands, quick feet, and a frame to add even more weight. He is the most raw of the three on the field, but has the highest ceiling.

I love that Bain is showing a lot of interest, but it was pretty much the same story with PJ Williams last season, so I'll believe Bain's interest when he decommits. Call me forever skeptical.

Love the news on Carter. He's a must have, and getting him in the fold early would be big.

Kearse was a flake and we all should have seen this from day 1. I wouldnt be surprised if he decommits 2 or 3 more times before NSD. This staff I believe has a solid plan B in place, so good luck and good riddance to Kearse as far as i'm concerned.

From what i read on other sites, Coley seems like he'll be a 'Cane if he handles biz in the classroom.

PJ Williams was never as interested in us as certain people made it seem. That was always a bad rumor
