I have more of an issue with the execution than the playcalling obviously im in the minority. The OL wasn't that good and our receivers dropped too many ball and thats when they would get an accurate pass. Players just have to get better before i start getting on the playcalling

It's almost impossible to "execute" when the defense knows what is coming.

The horrible scheme is much bigger issue then the play calling though. The play calling is bad but even a great play caller would have trouble dialing up a good offense with Richt's playbook.

Chise just think about it, it’s no different than when we lost 3 out of our 4 secondary starters after the 2016 season. Redwine started a few games that year and had some experience. Jaquan was the backup safety and played but didn’t play nearly as much as Amari carter has the last 2 years. Have to think he will be a starter next year, gurvan Hall will take a spot and we have other talented defensive backs. Our defense will probably take a step back but it will still be a talented unit especially if shaq and pickney comeback as people are predicting lately
There are talented players in our secondary no doubt. Problem is Diaz’s pass defense gets eaten up when he doesn’t have a lot of experience at Safety. I love Hall and Carter, but Jaquan was a coach on the field.

I dunno who asked me a dumb question about how does play calling help your OL, but I’m glad Thanksgiving just past, and I got a chance to get drunk off a football.

During the Bears v. Detroit game (Go Bears), it was mentioned Detroit changed up their play calls to help their OL. Stafford in a 2 game span was sacked 16 times. 16 in two games. The first time we played Detroit, Mack ran through their OL. So what did Patricia do to help his OL? He called for short, quick passes. Not just tunnel or bubble screens, but 3 and 5 yrd hitches, quick slants, trap runs, jet sweeps, fake sweeps RB dives. He confused us all game, and then when we thought we finally got home, he’d hit us w/ a RB screen. It was so frustrating b/c they were eating the clock and getting movement.

Stafford stayed pretty clean that whole game. Yes we won, but it made for a frustrating day for the Bears D, and they were huffing.

Our play calls puts our OL in the worst spot. They already suck, but the play calls makes it even worst. Here’s the formula to beat us:

DL pins their ears back.
LB stay base b/c there’s no middle game, so they can focus on the run game or a TE streaking.
DBs play off b/c there’s no middle game, only streaks
Safeties play two deep b/c there’s no middle game, and streaks.

Simple.

I hate to keep bringing it up, the offensive play calling was like going against Golden’s defense!

And I should add- the one thing the BOT SHOULD do is fire that nincompoop AD Blake James, because it is pretty much a guarantee that if the new coach has success in his first year, James will panic and offer the coach a 6 year deal at 10x the initial salary.

We are the kings of of the unnecessary extension. Nobody gives those out like us.

Been saying this since last year...the lack of recruiting on the lines is going to catch up with us.

Miami got lucky with Gerald Willis being so good. You're basically asking Nesta Silvera to step in and be an All-American player as a sophomore to duplicate what Miami did on the DL. Miami's defensive success is predicated on that interior disruption. Without it, its going to take a massive step back.

Couple in the loss of two All-ACC caliber safeties, and its a wrap.
Exactly. We will be putrid on the interior DL, and there is no help in sight.

We also lose Mike Jack, and Frierson couldn’t take reps away from Dean, so I’m not optimistic.

Limitations or not, we need Shaq and Pink to return.

That’s like saying Silvera couldn’t take reps from Tito so you aren’t optimistic about him, overreaction. News flash not many outside of a few of our promising players in that whole 2018 class didn’t receive much playing time especially the 2018 defensive class doesn’t mean they aren’t good .

Id like to see what Nasty Nes will become with a full off-season with Mr Felder. They say the biggest, most noticeable gains in the weight room are usually right after your 1st season/year on campus

We’ve seen this when Jaquan has missed time. It was always trouble.

Nesta got some burn at the end of the Pitt game. Felt good about what I saw. Not saying he’ll replace Willis, but he’ll be ok.

Is it possible that Nesta, Hall, Carter, and Frierson? could surprise you?
I think they’re all very talented and should be expected to play well. I just don’t trust Diaz’s pass D with 2 new Safeties.

And we will miss Willis’s presence. I expect Joe Jack to leave too, and I don’t see a replacement who is as good right now.

Mark this down and bump it when I’m right: Our defense will take a big dive next year. Diaz puts a ton on his Safeties, and we’re losing 2 veteran starters who played the majority of the game. Willis will also be a huge loss because he ate up blockers and disrupted offenses up the middle.

Mark this down: you don't know ****. Sileo Slurper.

It’s way, way, way easier to see the field as a true Fr CB than as a DT. We’ve had several start or log major minutes in the last few years alone. Not to mention, Tito is comparatively way better than Dean.

As far as “promising,” hindsight is 20/20. You saying Frierson wasn’t “promising” before the season, and Cam Davis was ... more so than Lo? There were 2018 players all over the field this year Brock, just not Frierson. Maybe he makes a jump, but maybe, just maybe, all our highly touted recruits won’t pan out and he is one of them. At a minimum, he is inexperienced.

We will be thin at DT, CB and, probably to a lesser extent, Safety next year. I love Bandy, but our top cover CB shouldn’t be 5’9”. But for lack of depth, Nesta should’ve redshirted this year and been a rotational player next year - instead we need him to be our horse.

There’s glaring gaps all over this roster. Spin it however you want, but it’s total mismanagement.

Bandy plays with more heart than any corner we have had in a long time, I’m estastic bandy will be our top corner... you probably one of those guys who said we will be thin on the dline this year and look how that turned out. And no there where not 2018 players all over the field outside of a few especially on defense,

As it pertains to frierson he didn’t have the best of fall camp due to dealing with a hamstring injury in camp which didn’t allow him to perform as well as he was in the spring,

Well, you shouldn’t be ecstatic that Bandy will be our top cover corner, cause us is simply too short to cover 6’3” 215 lb wideouts. He is a dawg, yes, but that doesn’t account for bad matchups. I think you’re failing to take into consideration he played opposite MJ.

Blades, Ivey and Frierson need to hit the weight room hard this offseason. We need those guys to be in the 195ish lb range, ASAP. Ivey seems like he is the closest one, frame-wise.

Frierson and ivey are already over that weight and have been before the start of the season and blades look like he is too

The best corner on the top passing defense in the country in 2018 was who? Trajan bandy..
