We have got to do better with our DT recruiting. We will never get where we want to go(Deep playoff run and Conference and national championships) if we do not improve here.

I love you D$. I truly do but spare me with the excuses about salting mangos and James Johnson being from New Jersey. Jackson Cantwell is from Missouri and Israel Briggs is from California so what's the point? Just get it done!

Also something that Pete said really struck me. He said the issues with WR and DB recruiting remain issues. Look, this CB class if we add Brody Jennings is very good but having no safeties committed at this time is not good. I love the new secondary coaches Zac Etheridge and Will Harris and to be fair they will likely be more effective on the trail with another year under their belts.

Recruiting bigtime WRs remains a difficulty to be honest. We won't get Calvin Russell and Keys is possible but will be extremely difficult. I love kids like Spafford and Evans but we need to start landing the type of kids that Ohio State covets.

Overall I love what we are doing in terms of recruiting the OL. Add Breck Kolojay and this becomes the best OL class in Miami history. Actually it may be the best even without Kolojay. Running back and TE recruiting continue to be excellent as well as DE. The LBs in this class so far Edwards and Campbell are a move in the right direction which was desperately needed.

Winning helps land those types of players

Recruiting the way we are despite our performance is pretty ******* good

Chill tf out people. DTs are not physically developed out of high school (check how much Scott and Blount played last year). I rather get a college ready DT out of the portal - than waiting at least a year or more for a high school DT to develop. In a nutshell, not worried about DTs right now.

Are we all FN retarded?

I mean seriously... didn't we just post a stat a few months back that showed Miami had more 5 star DL in the last 4 years than just about anyone in college (including Georgia and Alabama)?
Since the 2022 class UGA has 5 vs our 2. If you count Lightfoot and Blount for us since they were fringe 5* then we have 4. UGA had a few other fringe 5* DL though too.

What sets UGA apart is littering their classes with top 100 DL every cycle. If you land 4 every year then you’re likely to hit on some game changer type kids. We landed 7 and they landed 14 since 2022.

Which way though? The slurpers and mopes are both moving the goal posts if you ask me.
Couple posts of note..the winning solves everything guy and the guy *****ing about "mopes" not appearing in crootin threads unless it's bad news.
It's always some excuse around here to mask continuing failure

Ahh so you feel the goal posts are moved by the slurpers. Got it.

I have mixed feelings. We were told we have a Top 5 NIL budget, we have a top 5 recruiter and we were told we were trending toward a top 5 class, maybe even Top 3. I knew the moment those were posted/podcasted that the program was going to disappoint.

On the other hand, I never really cared about our specific placement in the rankings as long as we’re somewhere in the top 12 or so consistently (since that’s playoff level). But I do care about filling in obvious gaps. To me those remain playoff caliber commits at WR1, DT, MLB and S. And we need two more DTs and Ss.

I don’t know if that’s moving the goal posts one way or another. Being ranked 6th is fine by me. But we need those spots I noted covered or the class is still incomplete regardless of ranking.

You're right - we need more at DT. 7 over that time period is way too low.

You are 100% correct stating winning solves those problems. Mario needs to get UM in the playoffs and win the ACC. That's what he's being paid for and so far it's been a disappointment.

As a team recruiting has not been anywhere near consistent. Until that happens we won't be a top 10 team or program.

That's not mopey or slurper that's the truth. Argue for talking points all you want. We might be competitive at some point. Looking at Clemson who is the favorite we would struggle to beat that team 9 of 10 times.

Winning helps recruiting. However you cant win without the recruiting. Only solution is overpay until you have produced the on field results. Period. You have to do whatever it takes to land the elite players. How many millions do we have invested? You cant tell me we couldnt of gotten Jeramiah Smith if we out bid Ohio State 1 or 2 million. In the grand scheme of things that extra million might of been enough to get you over the top.

That being said, its still not that easy. As it has been said, see Texas A&M. It boils down to 3 things.

1) Coaching. These players need to be put in a position to succeed. There is no excuse for our defense last year. We may not be the most stacked on D, but a good DC would of made the most of what we had. Even with 5 stars across the board, we would of had similar results to Texas A&M. Need coordinators that play to players strengths regardless of talent level.

2) Development. Players must improve every year. You need to have the right position coaches to keep the guys locked in and working hard. Develop top tier talent. Get them drafted high. And watch how much easier recruiting is. See Carson Beck after Cams season.

3) Evaluation. You need to taget the right guys. Skillset and character. When you identify those guys that check all the boxes, you have to breakout the checkbook and dont take no for an answer.

Recruiting Rankings...

2023
Miami: 7th
Clemson: 11th

2024
Miami: 4th
Clemson: 11th

2025
Miami: 14th
Clemson: 26th

This doesn't include the portal classes. Miami has been in the top 10 every year since Mario arrived and Clemson doesn't even participate.

What am I Missing here? Like Mario as a coach can be questioned but how does anyone question the recruiting?

Recruiting has been the best that it’s been for a long long while. The issues are as follows though.

That 3 year run while very good is not elite. 24 was the one year you can say was elite. Look we know Mario has his warts as a coach but he is supposed to earn his keep recruiting. While in the aggregate he has done well, again jury is out on elite.

We have been told by multiple reputable posters that we are top 5 if not top 3 NIL wise. Well we need the receipts to match. Still a long way to go but anything short of top 5 is a miss.

Lastly, we have struggled with roster management and balance. Whether it’s CB, LB, S or DT we always are putting out fires. Thank God for the transfer portal here. Still we are in year 4 and the roster while great ACC standards wise is far far away from being elite even on paper.

Yes it was the most 5 star trench players which includes OL and DE. We are specifically referring to DTs here however where we have 1(Justin Scott) in that same time frame.

I never said he didn't have success. His top 10 finishes are consistent. 2 things can be true. You're telling me he's consistently recruited every position so that Miami has zero positions of concern?

That's all I was trying to convey. And why it matters, at least in my opinion. We can agree to disagree.

I would rip Kirby the same way with the offensive holes with UGA. You can also see what having a lethal defense every year can do for wins and losses. The defense Miami ran out on the field last year was G5.

Maybe everyone should just start saying we are headed for a top 10-15 class in the early months of recruiting season then when Mario brings in that top 5-6 class everyone is excited and applauding.
Every time D$ or someone else says we are looking like a top five class and only get to 6-7 people are ready to jump off cliffs.
It’s JUNE people…why not learn to save your *****ing and moaning until after early signing day when Mario has done what he most always does and gets us a top 5-10 class.
