Owens Surprised by UM’s Victory

Tito Benach
2014 Oakleaf (Fla.) linebacker Darrion Owens has been contributing well on the defensive side of the football for his team and has them feeling good for the rest of the season.

“Right now we’re going pretty good, right now we are 2-1, but we feel pretty good about the rest of the season. I’ve been doing pretty good, like right now I think I have maybe like 12 tackles, I have 2 and a half sacks, a forced fumble and a pick.

Owens isn’t only impacting on one side of the ball as he is contributing on the offensive side.

“I’ve also been playing a little tight end and fullback just to block for our running back.”

The 6’3 215 pound linebacker is playing his first season at linebacker and feels that his transition from safety not only helps him with speed and coverage, but it also aids him in the mental aspect of the game.

“Just that I understand what’s going on behind me now, like I know exactly what my job is and I know what they’re supposed to do as well.”

The Oakleaf product committed to Hurricanes during the summer and is standing strong with that commitment.

“I’m still going strong with my commitment.”

Owens’ was able to catch the ‘Canes big win over rival Florida last weekend and was surprised by their performance.

“Oh yes, I was surprised. I knew they were gonna be good this year, but I’m just happy everybody else got to see it too.”

The Miami commit was excited for the team and believes that the win is evidence of the job head coach Al Golden has done with them.

“it shows that they’re coming back and that coach Golden’s got them on the right track to come back and be great.”

As far as visits are concerned, Owens’ hasn’t planned any yet, but is hoping to get back down to Miami at some time.

“Not right now. Either after the season or during it doesn’t matter, but I want to get back down there.”

When asked if he is planning to see any other schools Owens replied..

“I’m just locked into Miami.”

Hard core LB's all facking day! Owens will be a good one.

Owens and Young are just straight ******* beasts. Can't wait.gif

Don't forget Smith, Harris and McCray, who will swing between DE in the 4/3 and OLB in the 3/4, similar to how McCord is being used this year. Add in Chad Thomas, Jackson, C Jenkins, Stuckey and Valentine, and our front 7 will be a murderers row a couple years down the line. Even in 2014, as several of those guys will play right away next season.

kid should be a 5 star LB so glad to have him locked in!

Those will be some big, speedy and physical Linebackers. If we can close on Moten and sneak Claude Pelon in, then we would have the foundation of a top 10 defense. What safety do we need to close out the defensive side? Johnnie Dixon and Berrios would close out the offensive side. Class of '15 will be a cherry picking class as wins come and ncaa ends.
