Nuts how he’s getting bar to chest on his reps considering how he’s 6’8

He's 6'7-6'8" But think he actually has much shorter arms than you'd think...

@DMoney has there been anything on Cantwells arm length? Think I've seen he has like an 80" wingspan and like 10.5" hands or something? That definitely would NOT be all that big given his height tbh. In fact usually its better to have the opposite (Long Arms and big hands but maybe be closer to 6'4-6'5"!!) because being tall usually leads to worse movement skills..... Plus seems like he has a wide body... Like an 80" wingspan is from someone you'd expect to be like 6'4-6'5.5". Will Campbell has like a 77.5" wingspan at just under 6'6" and has gotten killed for his arm length at 32.5".

Cantwell is 6'7-6'8", But given his only 80" wingspan he probably has what 34" arms max (usually the cutoff for OTs is 33")? ... To put it in perspective some top OT prospects that were 6'7 or larger like Jake Long had a 90" wingspan... I think Cantwells height to wingspan is similair to maybe Mike McGlinchey from ND/49ers. He was 6'7 7/8ths and had an 81" wingspan with 34" arms...

Also, this may end up being Mauigoa biggest knock come draft season btw... But **** I think I remember that Mauigoa has an 80" wingspan himself and he's like 2-3 inches shorter than Cantwell?

Will Campbell just went OT1 and 4th overall with arm length issues. If your that good, they don't care as much

Pretty sure his arms are right at 33 inches.

32 reps is amazing. Somewhat closed grip, too. But isn’t fully extending his arms and is bouncing off his chest. Still…To be 17 and clearly be able to do a lot of weight like that is impressive.

Yes, but this OT class didn't have an elite prospect just a few very good ones, and the Patriots were desperate for OT. If Josh Simmons didn't have major injury issues, Think he'd have been viewed as the best Pure LT prospect. But If Will Campbell wasn't taken by the Pats I could have seen him slipping till like 9 tbh as I think the Jets realistically could/would have still taken Membou ahead of him. 2024 Campbell would have been like OT4 probably? 2023 probably OT 3 or 4? 2022 and 2021 OT 2 probably, and 2020 OT 5? He was a very good player, but I don't think he was truly an elite prospect - at least not as a pure OT. Which is funny cause as you say he was picked 4th, the highest an OT has been taken since Andrew Thomas in 2020.

Arm length is a real important metric at OT. But what I'm really saying is short arms while being that tall is worse. Because in general the taller you are the worse your movement skills are going to be. Now hopefully Cantwell isn't in that category, but we do know so far his run blocking has been good and his pass blocking has been the main issue. Obviously he has the talent to be elite and a top OT regardless what his arm length is. But It is something to pay attention to. I'd absolutely bet if this dude had 2" longer arms like other top OT prospects his size (and without losing strength), he'd be a FAR more certain prospect as a pass blocker.

But also I'm just saying being 6'8" doesn't matter all that much for the bench if your arms are the size of a 6'4" guy... Like what he's doing is impressive, I'm just saying him being 6'8" isn't making it more impressive to me...

What do you bench big guy?

Let’s see what the nfl thinks

Yup. Its obviously not everything. But its certaintly lowers your odds of being a top OT. How many guys with the shorter arms never become starters or are moved to Guard early? How many of the guys with the shorter arms are borderline elite at pretty much the rest of the typical drills? Like Will Campbell was basically 90th percentile Jumps and 40 too. Not too many Olineman perform the Shuttle anymore cause it can really make or break your combine... Obviously it doesn't mean he wont be a top OT and really it's just like a cut off. You just rarely see OTs be elite with <33"arms. But that doesn't mean if you have 36" arms you're better than the guy with 34" arms. I was just curious what Cantwells actual arm length is, because his wingspan is pretty short for a 6'7 or 6'8" OT.... Hopefully Cantwell is a taller version of Zach Tom...

Just asking. You got a lot to say on the matter so I was curious
Riiiight, I'm sure....lol
I haven't done a 1 or 2 rep max in like 10 years, so honestly no idea. I do sets of 6-8 and then go to fail on my final set for most exercises. But more often I do dumbbell flat bench for the bigger stretch. Last barbell bench I did was incline 180 x 11. Idk what that'd translate to, probably 240 flat bench max, idk.
