If I was asked to choose one OL who I would've wanted gone it would have been Jones, Mahoney, Milo. At least with Linder you could throw him out there and hold your breath. None of our backups have played a meaningful snap.

I agree.

Losing Odogwu and Linder means we've now lost 2 Senior OL with experience. Both have their weaknesses, but overall it hurts to lose them.

It changes a situation where hoping/thinking a player like Gaynor can contribute this year, to a situation where ready or not, he's going to have to.

Mark Richt announced this morning after practice that center Nick Linder would be sitting the season out to train and focus on finishing his degree before going the graduate transfer route after the season.

Linder was battling for the center job with Tyler Gauthier and freshman Corey Gaynor. Sources say Gauthier had pushed out in front for the first team unit with Gaynor coming on strong and vying to be part of Miami's 7-deep on the line.

Linder was UM's starting center for the 2015 season and for most part of last year before a shoulder injury ended his season.

Miami's projected offensive line this season is LT Kc McDermott, LG Trevor Darling, C Tyler Gauthier, RG Navaughn Donaldson, RT Tyree St. Louis.

Let me see if I understand the logic. Sit for a year. Do nothing, when you could be 1 play away from starting. Grad-transfer without redshirting. Abandon your team but stay on the same campus during what could be your first ACC-CG season.

Are we sure he injured his shoulder and not his brain?

Except that he isn't 1 play away from starting. Pete stated that he isn't part of the 8 man rotation.

Much Respect only because of his brother, otherwise, his career is already over if he is choosing to transfer for a lesser team...

I remember Xiang Li's dad, after finding out Jeff Dahmer ate his son, saying, "Much respect to Jeff Dahmer because his brother Dave was a good guy."

Dahmer was hungry 30 minutes later.

I know he graduates in a week, but what are the rules here technically, out of sheer curiosity? Could he transfer somewhere and play this season, or is it too late and he has to sit out the year?

The way I understand it is that if he was offered a scholarship from Miami this year then he can't grad transfer to a different school for the same season he was offered a scholarship from Miami.

Hope that makes any sense. I've been wrong before though.

Nope, makes perfect sense. Jives with what I heard/read as well on TOS and TOOOOOS. Not the most common case-- i.e. started camp, graduates in a week, but transferring.

Why can't he play, get his degree, and then go the grad transfer route?

He has already played 3 years. If he plays this year he will have used up all 4 years of his eligibility. Needs to redshirt to maintain his 4th year of eligibility.

This is what happens when kids get ribbons just for competing..

who wins in a fight?

McDermott, Darling, Gauthier, St. Louis, Milo, Mahoney, Jones

vs

Donaldson, Gaynor, Herbert, Johnson, Dykstra, Hillery, Brown

I do not think that is true.

That Pac 12 WR who was kicked off the team just went over to Utah, and he's going to play right away.

He was a bum player and now he's also a quitter.

We didn't "lose" either they chose to quit, what are you going to do about it?

It could e a great move for him. He's a good student. Concentrate on getting your undergraduate degree shop yourself to the academic schools (Duke, Vanderbilt etc.) Have as your goal a graduate degree from a prestigious school. He knows he is not going to play in the league.

Brain-dead analysis by you.

8-man rotation for 5 spots. Do the math, genius. Let's say that Gaynor is playing OG and Gauthier goes down. One play.

Even if you could stretch the math to make him a 3rd stringer, he's TWO plays away from starting. It's not as if third stringers have NEVER made it to first string due to injury or anything...
