Jai Lucas is yet again cooking in the portal.
On Wednesday at noon,
New Mexico guard transfer Tru Washington has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. The 6-foot-4 guard spent his freshman and sophomore season at New Mexico, averaging 11.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.4 blocks, 1.9 assists, and 2.1 steals in 28.3 minutes per outing. He shot 42.4 percent from the field.
When he entered the transfer portal, a lot of people assumed he would follow his coach, Richard Pitino, to Xavier. However, Jai Lucas made the Hurricanes a strong contender in his recruitment and ultimately secured his commitment.
The 6-foot-4 guard is the uncle of TyTy Washington, who used to play for Kentucky and is now with the Houston Rockets.
After finishing high school at Compass Prep, the 6-foot-4 guard was seen as a four-star recruit and was ranked as the 130th best player in the nation for the class of 2023, based on the 247Sports Rankings.
Now that Tru has joined the team, Miami and Jai Lucas have a total of four players on their roster. The lineup includes TCU forward transfer Ernest Udeh Jr., Michigan point guard transfer Tre Donaldson, and Indiana transfer Malik Reneau. Jai Lucas has secured another solid player in Tru Washington.
