Mrob was used as a DE here tho... was a LB at homestead.

Not quite sure why he is listed.

Golden screwed the pooch with guys like McCord and Smith. Also Smith had a devastating knee injury.

McCray? Cmon man. If we didn’t offer him he would of ended up at FAMU. He never had the LSU offer

Mike Smith was serviceable as a back up, but never made a significant impact at LB like I posted.

I don't mean to disrespect any of these players, more so the staff for trying to force these guys into positions they never played before just b/c they were a certain size and speed.

I have played both DE and MLB, and know the learning curve that takes place when making the transition from rushing the passer to having to read and react, shed blocks and locate the ball in a split second.

A lot more goes into playing LB than most realize.

For example, when the ball is snapped, the LBs first read is the OL, to see if they are run blocking or pass blocking. Then you read into the backfield, locate the ball then shed a block and make a tackle if its a run, if its a pass, you drop into your zone or pick up your man or blitz.

All of that is a lot more instinct and thinking than just beating the guy in front of you on your way to the backfield.

All that thinking and not being able to read and react in a split second gets those guys caught in the mess and they never make a play.

MRob was never able to figure it out, so we just used him as a third down rush end like Javon Nanton.

I agree with you. My reason is simple since I don’t have much technical expertise: move speed forward everywhere on defense. It is a commandment of Miami Hurricane defense. Manny might be spending too much time thinking about blitzing. We need more speed at DE and lb not less. Slow and big should have left with the PSU twins.

FSU seems to be in the driver's seat for many of the state's top LBs.

Miami loses 3 this year, and who knows what the deal is with Wilder.

You'd think the target is at least 2 this year, probably 3. Where's the focus? All on OOS kids?
SHocking that the Nolies would be in the driver’s seat for anything sans one of their players handcuffed and sitting in the backseat of a police car...

Nah, I remember M-Rob being a rush end in HS?

Career back up who only looked solid his Sr year is staying on that list, sorry.

Yes, he was solid depth behind Shaq, but he did not make a significant impact at LB, and should have added weight and kept his hand in the dirt as a rush end for us.

He was a beast off the edge for MNW.

Again, this is not disrespecting Mike Smith.

No way....He wasnt that type and the added weight took away some of his quickness.

Mike just neede some time to get use to playing in space..but he was what he was a good solid run down linebacker. Those guys are needed. I mean you have 3 lbs on the field and alot of times just 2. How much significance would be expected?. Especially considering he is/was playing behind 2 other nfl quality lbs.

Again like i said ..i'll take Mike Smith in every recruiting class...he was a solid player here. He wouldve started ona number of other acc teams and likely produced more.

I think Mike Smith would have had a fantastic college career if he did not have so many injuries.

I was an All State white boy there and STA started stacking about 2008 when they brought Rashad Greene in from GA. Gio Bernard for example came from Boca and never would have come there 10 years prior. That's all I am saying.

Willie Williams was a better athlete but same type of player. Freelancer who unfortunately was a knucklehead. Jones had a bad knee, but never a position.

STA has been stacking since the days of Michael Irvin. You mean stacking to an Unseen level. Thats what i meant. Rashad Green honestly is a blip at sta.

Yea Willie Jones had a bad knee situation. He had the quickest get off i seen at the time at DE.
Tavares "StumP" Gooden was ripped and known about since optomist...my coach said that young boy Stump gonna beat your *** when we play...i had to get that right.lol Dude was athletic as all ****...he played baseball...and ran track as well when track season started. Had a good career at um and solid nfl career..good dude.

Yeai think it took him longer to get comfortable witht he knee. Before he was abit hesitant and at LB that gets u caught in the wash. But this season towards the tail end dude flashed...i seen him close on some runs that had me shocked. He outplayed Shaq alot. I hope he gets a shot and maybe makes a practice squad or even the aafl league if not. He always seemed like a good dude.

@tyrn you know whats freaky. In this class the kid Jahari Harvey is the opposite . we recruited and landed him as an de. But the kid at 6'3 225+ actually has LB skills. Dude was running stride for stride with div 1 rbs all last spring in the camp circuit.

Im high on him as a player here at DE.
Theres another kid from the same area that we are all over in Jamari Stewart that is looking identical to Harvey

The stacking was nothing like it has been the past 10 years or so. I mentioned Rashad as the start of the new trend. For the 90's and early 2000 we got a T Good, and some others but never more than 3-5 guys who were there to PLAY. That is what I'm saying. The 3 states I played in we were never as talented as the other top teams around like Dillard, Deerfield etc. Just much better coached.

Imagine McCord in Mannys defense?

MRob was a rush end for Homestead, had like 20 sacks, but was projected as a top 3 OLB in the nation and was a boarderline 5star.

He started out trying to learn LB here, but could never figure it out, so the last 2 years he tried to bulk up and played what he knows DE.

I know he played DE at Homestead, but we tried to make him a LB here and he couldn’t pick it up mentally so he had to play as a light pass rusher at DE like Javon Nanton

Yeah Jamari Stewart was breaking on passes and swatting balls at the Adidas tournament this weekend while playing Safety, I hope we get him committed, reminds me of seeing Avery Huff play DB last year during 7on 7, shows how amazingly athletic they are because huff looks good at safety and can cover man to man 🙌

I'm pretty sure there is a rivals camp video out there showing Harvey covering RBs like a LB he he was very good.
