Wilder will never play here.

Another HS rush end who will never make a significant impact at LB.

We love trying to fit round pegs into square holes with this **** over an over again, and it has yet to work for us.

MRob - Nope
McCord - Nope
McCray - Nope
Mike Smith - Nope
Wilder - Nope
Joyner - TBD
Brooks - TBD
You can take Mike Smith off that list. He may not have been a starter, but he sure played well this past season as a backup. Good size and showed a lot of burst. I really didn't think his play was much of a drop off if any from Shaq.

I understand moving safeties down to LB. Always find it hard to project High School DE’s to LB because you’re projecting against the grain vs. the natural progression of someone moving from corner to safety or safety to LB or LB to DE or DE to DT.

Don’t get it. Not that it can never work but it’s weird. Sam Brooks is another case we will have to see about.

He was a DE who played first at South Broward then STA for 2 years. That is where he was COACHED and developed LB skills. STA until about 10 years ago won games against the Dillards of the world because of coaching, not talent, they never had stacked teams, but some guys from the certain Lauderhill hood who were there obviously to play.

Brooks has dropped and played LB type roles. I've seen it with my own eyes. Willie Williams was a replica of Willie Jones who went to FSU. They had no clue how to play DE or LB. They stood up and ran around using their athleticism to make 25 sacks.

Yea about that.....STA has been stacked wellllll longer than 10 yrs dude.lol

Willie was much more athletic than Willie Jones....Jones wasnt that bad of a player either. Willie played Te and DE at Pace. Played an OLB type role at CC.
Your right about Gooden...i ate him up pretty easily his soph year at DE. He was already a beast underclassmen though and everyone in the Hollywood area knew about him for some time.

The difference with alot of those guys listed and Sam Brooks is....Sam Brooks is a legit sub 4.6 kid.
Dont think marcus Robinson ever was considered to be an LB.
Mccloud was a scheme fit for what Golden and them wanted.
Mike Smith was actally pretty solid here and i would take a Mike Smith in every class. Mccray never should have been a take...and Wilder i was iffy about from the jump, but we have to let his career play out,.

And Mcloud may not have had a good career by any means...BUT he played LB in high school, and his tape was awesome. He also was better this year when asked to do less. Would I mind him getting a chance with his hand down?---not at all But his struggles aren't the same as these "hs rush ends". He wasn't a rush end at all in HS.

And I'll admit I'm guilty of missing on him, I thought the kid was gonna be an animal here...He's running and killing everything moving on his HS tape. He's had his moments though, not like a complete bust.

At one point last season, it looked as if 3-star STA linebacker Devon Betty was one of the staffs top priorities at linebacker for the 2020 cycle. This no longer appears to be the case as communication between the two has slowed down in recent months.

“One out of ten, I’d say a six in communication. It’s a new coaching staff so you gotta kinda wait and be patient.”

In the limited communication that there has been, the message from Miami and Manny Diaz has been pretty clear.

“Mostly he just wants me to get up there and see around the campus and stuff. Just get used to it.”

So when can we expect this visit to take place?

“Soon, probably. If he contacts me again, I’ll ask him about the visits and stuff. I’ll go, and I’ll probably be up there.”

While Betty’s communication with Miami has been limited, his communication with Michigan has started to pick up, and there is a chance he takes an official visit this spring.

“If anything, I’ll be going to Michigan up in March, but I’m not sure yet, I’m undecided.”

One of the reasons Michigan has made a move with Betty is his connection to former STA teammate and Michigan signee Anthony Solomon.

“[Solomon] actually wants me to come up there with him and play next to him. Coach (Don) Brown said I’d be nice playing next to him, so I’m looking forward to it.”

The good news for Miami is that Betty does not plan on making a decision anytime soon. Should Miami choose to pursue Betty, they will have a good amount of time to catch up.

“Right now I’m just going with the flow of everything. I’m not rushing anything.”

I’m a Wilma guy.

Yea I mean the upside is Brooks is probably the best athlete of the bunch. At least before the injury.

Career back up who only looked solid his Sr year is staying on that list, sorry.

Yes, he was solid depth behind Shaq, but he did not make a significant impact at LB, and should have added weight and kept his hand in the dirt as a rush end for us.

He was a beast off the edge for MNW.

Again, this is not disrespecting Mike Smith.

I don't agree. That's your opinion in which you make such a baseless blanked statement though I provided a link outlining his contributions to the program. Dude got injured his junior year. Most guys in any program don't see the field until their junior year. Bashing players that have given their heart and sole to the program serves no purpose.

Lol at anyone questioning Sam Brooks as a LB. Dude was a friggin missle before his injury and was starting to get fully healthy down the stretch. He terrorized Dade county and will do the same in the coastal.

Doubting Sam Brooks is a mistake.
Not saying Brooks was a mistake at all.

He is my favorite of all of the LBs I listed.

He may not be the best as a 4-3 LB.

Hope I’m wrong adding hm to that list, and he kills it here.

It will take a few years though, b/c his HS coaches stunted his development by using as a DE instead of preparing him for his future position at the next level.

Props to STA for prepping Gooden for LB back then.

I was an All State white boy there and STA started stacking about 2008 when they brought Rashad Greene in from GA. Gio Bernard for example came from Boca and never would have come there 10 years prior. That's all I am saying.

Willie Williams was a better athlete but same type of player. Freelancer who unfortunately was a knucklehead. Jones had a bad knee, but never a position.

From the rush end position, not LB.

MRob did the same with over 20 sacks.

I do have hope for Brooks where I did not for others on that list after MRob and McCord.

His sparq was 116.91 with a 4.5/62 40 4.20 shuttle & 36.2 vertical putting him in the 92nd percentile, he's athletically identical to Lavonte David's combine measurables.

The coaches at MNW used him in stand up situations against the run & on certain passing downs, he had 100tcks 16 sacks & over 20TFL's plus 2 TD's & was dominant in the state title game his Senior year.

He'll be a great WLB in this system, the same way we use Pinckney will be his role except he's more prototypical at a 6'2 200lbs & is more explosive than Pinck. Most importantly are his intangibles, he's got the tenacity & internal motivation to be great, he's a hungry wolf & his work ethic is highly touted by Coach Max & Coach Juste.

I don't have a problem with your opinion, I'm simply saying don't dig in too deep on this one, this ain't the hill to die on lol

@Liberty City El

You are the man! That is all.

MRob had a nice career here though. Made lots of plays. McCord had a pretty good run with us especially when you consider the losers he played for. Mike Smith salvaged his career after the devastating knee injury he suffered. Smith turned out to be a very solid and dependable MLB off the bench.
