Being able to block our plethora of pass rushers will have have him primed for whatever he will see in the regular season. Remember right now he goes against garvin and even on the second team Trevon hill/Rousseau/Harvey etc. Competition everywhere
THIS.
He might find the game to be a bit easier than practice.

I know everyone is worried about tackles for good reason but imo you have to build your Oline inside out. Inside penetration is death to any offense. I love our interior of Donaldson, Gaynor, and Scaife. Those three should be all ACC type players holding down the middle of the line. Enos will have to be creative using TE,RB and FB to chip DE’s and mask any deficiencies from our tackles.

Based on Reports I’m more concerned about RT than left. Zion has been the 1 LT for months now. I haven’t seen one report of anyone taking his spot. RT has been going back and forth between Herbert and Campbell who’ve been getting eating alive by Big Greg. Let’s pray they figure it out and Zion is the second coming of Tyron Smith

We just need solid play from one Tackle because we can chip or help the other side. I don't doubt that Nelson is the best option but I'd be looking to start Scaife at RT and help out Nelson on long-yardage downs. Pass protection is a highly mental exercise where if you fear one move or get beat it can throw off your entire gameplan when you overcorrect, and then things snowball from there. Nelson's lack of experience is concerning in that regard. Talent doesn't matter when you're thrown off your (mental) game at OL or CB.

A more scary thought would be starting one of the guys that he has proven himself better than so far.
That **** right there would be enough to motivate me to beat them no matter what **** I had to do. Break that QB in half, throw everyone you can at him early till he's out. Those ****ers!

Not worried about Zion. We'll have growing pains, but you don't hide a questionable player at LT. Either you can command that position or you can't. Zion has been a fixture there so he's clearly our best option.

It never ceases to amaze me the Zion story, dude was an out nowhere flip from App State on NSD, that nobody heard of, undersized and will probably start Day one as a true frosh. I hope our fans are patient with the lows that will happen during this season to let him grow. If he works out, he will definitely be one of my favorite Canes

Definitely--but it would be a lot more scary if we were seemingly reeling at the position trying anyone and everyone in order to find a solution (see RT). Instead, Zion has shown up, worked hard, and seemingly earned the 1st team LT spot. He has not given it up since he got a hold of it in spring. That's the type of context that makes a freshman OT starting a little less scary.

All of those things factor into it being a scary situation. True freshman winning the job means that there's no one ahead of him better, which means development has been lackluster, which means subpar recruiting, which means...

In a vacuum, it's fine - may the best man win. But all of the things being in such a position implicates is really worrisome. And it's not like he gets to warm up - he's going to face probably the best defensive front he'll go against all season Game 1.

This kid really is shaping up to be a phenomenal story.

Lightly recruited, low ranked player who had the size of a TE when he got here.....might start at LT and who knows, might just play at a high level.

If we're able to keep that interior of Scaife, Donaldson, and Gaynor together while getting at least average play from the tackles, this line is going to the least of our worries. Add in better play calling and this offense could really be in for a turnaround.

Seems like they're giving Herbert, Campbell, Hillery a chance at securing the job before moving Scaife back to RT.

LT Nelson || LG Reed || C Gaynor || RG Donaldson || RT Scaife

LT Herbert || LG Hillery || C Clark || RG Kennedy || RT Campbell

Scout team: Dykstra, Elgammal, Traore, Griffith

We should have food available to players 24/7. Things like turkey wraps and other lean meats and veggies can be refrigerated and available whenever. Protein shakes and fruits should be set up for players at all times.
or at least Cuban or JCan Oxtail??

Lol it’s funny that y’all still think he’s not going to start from Day 1. He’s been 1st Team at LT since halfway through spring ball and y’all think he’s not going to be there vs UF. LOL
Literally nobody in this thread before your post said they don't think he is going to start at this point. What are you talking about.

I hope what Zion has is contagious , he keep this up the league would love to have him in there locker room.
