NC State transfer DT CJ Clark announced his commitment to Miami on Friday afternoon, becoming the first pickup via the transfer portal of this cycle for Mario Cristobal and his staff.

Clark had been a priority target for the Canes as soon as he entered the portal when the season ended. After losing Leonard Taylor to the draft and Purdue transfer Branson Deen, Miami needed to replenish the group with a veteran presence like Clark.

Originally from New London, North Carolina, the 6-3, 305-pound Clark was a class of 2019 4-star recruit. He will be entering his 6th season of college football and has amassed career totals of 72 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and 4 sacks in 42 career games played. Clark only played a combined 5 games in 2019 and 2021 after redshirting in 2019 and suffering a season-ending hand injury in 2021. He has been a consistent player for the Wolfpack the last two seasons playing nose tackle in their 3-3-5 scheme, but has also played defensive end.

Along with Clark, Miami is looking to add Middle Tennessee State transfer Marley Cook on the defensive line. Cook is visiting Miami this weekend.

Much needed. Conference experience, power 5 experience and talent. You simply need a bunch of bodies who can play across the DL. These big guys are rare. You need that experience, opening the season at the lizard rat nest.
