Wyche is back in the fold after decommitting last week. The Junior College defensive tackle had been committed to USC before flipping to Miami. Unfortunately, he will need to wait until May to be a Cane, but he is expected to finish his necessary credits over the next few months.

**Carol City's Gray inks with Miami


Trayone Gray – ATH – 3* - Carol City – 6’2”, 197



Gray is not expected to qualify, but he is a stud.

Scouting Report from DMoney - Of all the players on this list, nobody improved more in one season than Trayone Gray. Last year, he was considered a very good athlete and a steady receiver for then-QB Akeem Jones. This year, Gray was a freak of nature on par with Dalvin Cook and Sony Michel. He rushed for 1,121 yards and 11 TDs in 2013 while displaying true breakaway speed at the quarterback position. Even when Carol City faced fast defenses like Central, Gray was able to pull away like he was playing junior varsity. Some question whether his upright style will translate to running back, but all I see is a clone of Darren McFadden.

Rosier is often a forgotten man in this class due to the fact that he does not do much talking to the media. He is on the shorter side, but has a live arm and is mobile.

Miami locks in BTW duo


Demetrius Jackson – OLB/DE – 4* - Booker T. Washington – 6’4”, 220



Jackson is a kid who CanesInSight first discovered last year, as he was just beginning to play football. The two-sport star (basketball) went from being an unranked prospect to a highly regarded 4-star in less than a year.

Scouting Report from DMoney - The springy legs that make Jackson such a dominant rebounder allow him to deflect passes at a Watt-like rate and close distance in a flash. With raw freaks like Jackson, their motors ultimately determine their success. Pro Bowlers Dontari Poe and Jason Pierre-Paul weren’t even productive in college, but their motors convinced NFL teams that they would reach their ceilings. Jackson competes hard and plays aggressive on every snap. His lanky frame is more Dion Jordan than Pierre-Paul, so expect him to play a hybrid role at Miami. Smart, humble kid who scored a 21 on his ACT and wants to be a preacher.

Chad Thomas – DE – 5* - Booker T. Washington – 6’5”, 240



Thomas is a bonafide stud on-and-off the field. The 5-star prospect has been committed to Miami since late in the summer and held true with his pledge through signing day despite the likes of Florida State and Alabama coming on strong at the end. Scouting Report from DMoney - Justin Tuck-type player with enormous potential. Huge, athletic frame that will blow up in a college program. Dominated the All-Star circuit against the best tackles in America. During the season, he was the best player on the best defense in the state. Thomas was forced to play some DT for an undersized Tornadoes line, and aside from the Bishop Gorman game (where he went against bigger D-1 caliber guards), he was a terror. Once he adds some strength, he will be a force no matter where he lines up. Classically trained musician who has produced several local hip-hop hits.

One of Dade County's most productive prospects is a Cane

Mike Smith – OLB/DE – 4* - Miami Northwestern – 6’2”, 215



Smith has been a favorite of mine since watching him dominate during his junior season. He seems to show up on the biggest stage.
Scouting Report from DMoney - Smith was one of the most difficult guys to rank. As a player, he belongs in the Top 15. He’s an absolute animal. But I keep getting mixed reports about his knee injury. If he’s healthy, he can take over games like he did against St. Thomas (see below). Northwestern lost Marquise Blanchard and several other stars from its defense, but Smith kept dominating every week. His get-off and relentlessness make him special. Even though he is undersized for a down lineman, he struggles in space and projects best with his hand on the ground.

South Dade's Tyre Brady had signed

Another prospect that CanesInSight has been on since very early in the process, Brady jumped onto the scene with a Miami camp MVP performance as a sophomore in High School. Brady began his career at Columbus before switching schools a couple times and winding up back at South Dade. His potential is through the roof and he should be commended for working hard to fix his once-shaky grades situation.
Scouting Report from DMoney - Tyre Brady is a guy that we’ve been talking about for two years now. What jumps out about him is his ability to get in and out of his breaks at 6’3. He’s been at three schools and hasn’t played a ton of high school football, but he came on very strong during the Buccaneers’ run to the state title. Needs to learn to play to his size and win jump balls (see Jaquan Johnson’s game-winning INT against Killian). Boom or bust player with enormous upside.

Miami flipped the former Louisville commit in late December. Gayot is a big, physical safety with a nose for the football and likes to hit. Projects as an in-the-box player who will provide immediate depth for Miami at the safety position.

The New Jersey pipeline is strong for this staff. Njoku will fill out and play tight end at Miami. The track jumper is an intriguing prospect who will most likely redshirt.

Scouting Report from DMoney - Complete defensive line prospect. A 3-4 end in high school, Moten has the length and strength for two-gapping and the athleticism of a penetrating three-technique. The thing that stands out about Moten is his quickness off the snap. Very good motor and conditioning for a big man. Has held a Miami offer since his sophomore year.

Every year under Al Golden, the Canes have picked up a prospect or two at their camps over the summer. Herndon was an example of that when Miami offered and he committed on the spot this past summer. Herndon is a good looking jumbo-athlete how has decent speed for his size and big hands.

If you’ve been reading the site over the past 6 months, you know how high I am on Kaaya’s abilities. The Southern California product was a little-known recruit with no offers when Miami offensive coordinator James Coley first offered. After he committed in May, it still took a couple of months for him to get the recognition he deserved and was invited to the Elite 11 quarterback camp as well as Nike’s The Opening. Kaaya has every physical tool you look for in a quarterback and proved his worth this season as he led his school to a California State Title. Miami held off local programs USC and UCLA, as well as Boise State. Kaaya never wavered in his commitment.

To give you all a glimpse of what tomorrow will look like, let's start by introducing the early enrollees who are already taking classes at Miami.

I will be live from Booker T. Washington at 9 A.M., where Demetrius Jackson and Chad Thomas are expected to sign with Miami and Treon Harris will be announcing his decision.


Trevor Darling – OL – 4* - Miami Central – 6’5”, 330 (ENROLLED)



Scouting Report from DMoney - The cornerstone of one of the greatest rushing attacks in South Florida history. Darling has all the natural tools to become a DJ Fluker-type road grader: long arms, a huge base and a nasty disposition. Very coachable. Denver Kirkland was a freshman All-American in 2013, and Darling is a better player at the same age.

Braxton Berrios – WR – 4* - Leesville Road (NC) – 5’9”, 181 (ENROLLED)



Berrios is a prospect who CanesInSight first interviewed back in June when his contact with Miami was just being established. When he came down to Miami camp to earn an offer and left without it, there was a lot of talk that he would move on and not consider the Canes, but that offer came the next week. The prototypical slot receiver grew up a diehard Miami fan and that came to fruition with his commitment in October. Berrios has recorded a stunning 3.81 shuttle, which would be the best in NFL combine history. His route running is nearly perfect and catches the ball away from his target. He will be the quarterback’s best friend.

Joseph Yearby – RB – 4* - Miami Central – 5’9”, 185 (ENROLLED)



A former Florida State commitment, Yearby will go down as a Dade County legend. He has been balling since the optimist level.

Scouting Report from DMoney - One of the most productive backs to ever come out of Florida. Yearby showed more speed as a senior and upped his yards per carry from 6.8 to 9.6. Exceptional feet and vision reminiscent of Gio Bernard and Warrick Dunn. Yearby also has many of the same intangible qualities that Duke Johnson had. When Central needed a quarterback, Yearby stepped up and got the job done. When he got hurt, the entire community (including opponents) rallied around him. Central doesn’t use Yearby much in the passing game, but he proved on the camp circuit that he can be special in that area as well.

Juwon Young – LB – 4* - Albany (Ga.) – 6’2”, 235 (ENROLLED)



DMoney’s Take - Now that the grade questions are done and he's on campus, it's time to start up the Juwon Young hype train.
Peter and I saw him at the Miami camp, and he was the best player we saw all summer. He won every rep at defensive end and did so easily. He's huge, explosive and violent. He shifted into a more of a true linebacker role as a senior and dominated. Mark it down: he will be one of the very best players from this class.

Trent Harris – DE – 4* - Winter Park (Fla.) – 6’2”, 230 (ENROLLED)



Harris is an explosive edge rusher in the mold of former Cane Olivier Vernon. He has the frame to be able to add a lot more weight without losing speed and has the versatility to stand up or put his hand on the ground.

Heurtelou was somewhat of a surprise pick-up for Miami in December and he gives Miami a much-needed Junior College option at the defensive tackle spot.

McDermott has been a known commodity since his sophomore year in high school. The younger brother of Miami starting center Shane, Kc will have an opportunity to get a lot of playing time his freshman year.

Owens getting in early was a huge testament to his work ethic. January enrollment will be a great benefit to the hard-hitting former safety. His length and aggressiveness is a combination that Canes fans have longed for at the linebacker position.

Ryan Mayes – DB – 3* - Miami Northwestern – 6’2”, 180 (ENROLLED)



Mayes was offered after a camp performance and committed later that night. Not known as a hitter at his size, Mayes says Miami recruited him as a cornerback. I believe he will wind up at safety.
