Miami lands their first D-line commitment of the 2026 class with Four-star DL Tyson Bacon

The Miami Hurricanes have landed their first piece on the defensive line for the 2026 class with Hoover (Ala.) four-star D-lineman Tyson Bacon.

At 6-foot-3 and 263 pounds, Bacon played both inside and outside throughout his time in highschool. As the first D-line commit of the class, Bacon is a really solid pickup for the ’Canes as Miami beat out the likes of Florida (again), Tennessee and Alabama for the Hoover prospect.



“They like how versatile I am. So I'll be with [Coach Lewis] one day and I'll be with [Coach Taylor] the others. I can still rush off the edge where I can go inside and play three tech’ and still dominate,” Bacon told me for CIS last weekend.

“Yeah, so I'll be at that combo end. 
Playing three technique and still being able to rush off on the five, still causing havoc on the edge, on inside, wherever I go.”

Shortly thereafter, Bacon raved about the staff and their pedigree.

“It's like two Hall of Famers, coach Lewis played here, so you know he's not going anywhere. 
And [coach Taylor], he has a gold jacket and he played for the Miami Dolphins for about 10 years. I mean, that's just legendary right there, that's very hard to beat, and you just know it’s stable, and that's what we need nowadays, with the transfer portal going on.”



Personally I think he will transition to more of an interior player, developing into a tackle during his years at Miami as he taps into his more physical side. Similar to a Freddie Wilson, these are the type of guys we often don’t take a shot with, only to be needing their services in three years time with a healthy tax upon them.

With a commitment just before his expected visits to Tennessee and Alabama, those schools alongside Florida are undoubtedly going to keep the pressure on him heading down to signing day. But being able to land a commitment from an Alabama kid that the Tide had interest in, again just spotlights the impressive work this staff continues to do.

Bacon becomes the thirteenth commit in Miami’s 2026 class, and the second today after Canon Pickett's commitment earlier this afternoon. He joins Jordan Campbell, Camdin Portis, Jaelen Waters and Jontavius Wyman on the defensive side of the ball and I expect more movement in this area in the coming weeks as well.
