Tom Loy repeatedly said it was the relationships which made the difference.

The 2 interesting things I took from this were;
1. Someone on UM’s staff was told by Rosenhaus that Cantwell was coming to UM, but that info was NOT given to Mario, who continued to recruit Cantwell.
2. The much maligned Dennis Smith was one of the relationships that were noted as to why Cantwell chose UM. You know, the guy everyone seemingly wants fired.

That one poster here is gonna cry when he sees that given any loss we have is always on Dennis smith

I am not sure that Mario would have slowed down even if he had known

Yeah, but here’s the thing with Dennis…

While nobody denies that he is a strong champion for certain kids and he recruits like a rabid dog, it is the negatives that outweigh the positives.

We have lost multiple recruits, in small or large part, due to Dennis Smith antics. We almost lost one of our top incoming recruits because of Dennis. One of our most coveted current recruits (and his family)have formed negative views of Dennis.

So I look at this logically. I believe we could hire any number of guys who would be strong and dogged advocates for Gus like Cam Ward and Jackson Cantwell on an annual basis without bringing the significant negative personal traits that have cost us multiple recruits over the past few years.

Can you define "antics"? I assume it's more than just being goofy on social media.

I don’t doubt anything you have written. He is likely very replaceable by someone who won’t bring the negative attributes. And I am definitely not advocating for UM to retain him. I just thought it was an interesting point because I’ve literally never heard anyone outside UM ever mention his name. Mario clearly has a soft spot for Smith for a reason that we will likely never know.

this cantwell kid is quite the big deal ... he won't be short of accolades when he arrives to coral gables
