Miami lands Jacksonville St. safety Zechariah Poyser

The Canes landed perhaps the top safety in the Portal with the commitment of Jacksonville State’s Zechariah Poyser. The 6’2, 195-pounder native of Wildwood, FL (near the Villages) gives Miami an instant impact player with three years of eligibility at a position of need.

As a redshirt freshman, he compiled 75 tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries and earned an 80.1 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus (76.1 run defense and 80.1 coverage). According to Matt Zenitz at 247Sports, an SEC personnel staffer told him this week that Poyser is “one of the top young safeties in the nation and that he has All-American type potential.”

He was unrated out of high school as a wide receiver, catching 17 passes for 276 yards and 4 TDs as a senior. He also averaged 12.4 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 4.2 APG and 1.6 SPG on the hardwood.

Poyser has recorded a 41-inch vertical jump and Miami believes he is a high-level athlete. He was coached at Jacksonville State by former Miami staffer and Booker T. graduate Terry Jefferson.

Poyser chose Miami over Florida, Auburn, LSU and Georgia. He is a lifelong Hurricanes fan.

The portal resets everything. The actual freshman recruiting classes are like half as relevant (because half those guys will likely transfer out anyway before becoming major contributors)

Bumping this after seeing the season play out. Thieneman just got his **** pushed in at the goal line. We didn’t do bad here. Not sure how Haulcy is doing

And we have Poyser for a couple more years. He will know this defense so well by the times he leaves. You can see how much faster he is playing every week and this is still year 1 for him

Haulcy has looked good at lsu.... im not sure how the oregon s have looked im guessing hes been ok too

im sure we got jakobe for less than both and kid is performing at a high level

Thienenman got the Pedo St game winning INT if I'm not mistaken.

National folks have said that he was avg at Purdue and his tackle numbers were high cause everybody in front of him couldn't stop a cold.
