Miami EDGE Hayden Lowe Named Under-the-Radar for 2026 Season After Missing Spring Ball

A post from ESPN highlighted some of the top under-the-radar players for the upcoming season, and among them was Miami Hurricanes edge rusher Hayden Lowe.

Lowe was the highest-rated player in the Miami 2025 recruiting class. He came into this past season with high expectations. However, he got injured right after the Hurricanes first two games of the 2025-26 season and missed the rest of the year.

Here is what ESPN stated about the edge rusher:

Lowe got to Miami last year as a five-star prospect, and within the first few weeks of practice, coaches thought he would be able to make an immediate impact. But he got hurt and missed the season, giving him valuable time to watch and learn from Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain Jr. With Mesidor and Bain off to the NFL, Miami has a definite need at the defensive end spot. Outside of transfer Damon Wilson II, Miami doesn't have much in the way of proven talent at the position. But the early returns on Lowe are promising. "My expectations for him are through the roof," coach Mario Cristobal said. -- Andrea Adelson.

Despite the hype, Hayden did not participate in spring ball. Lowe has been dealing with complicated personal issues.

The Hurricanes defensive line room is disgustingly deep and crowded. You have players such as Hayden Lowe, Armondo Blount, Marquise Lightfoot, Damon Wilson, plus many others.

Lowe was rated as the No. 16 player in the 2025 class and the No. 2 edge rusher in the country, while also being the No. 2 player out of California.

New opportunities await for this young man, and we will get to see him during the 2026-27 season.

Its obsessive to want to know if our top rated recruit is practicing? Lmao y'all the ones actually trippin. Zero rights to know.... And if the media actually reported it would you consider that a violation? I'd consider it good reporting ...

You asked two questions:

1. Is he practicing? No. That has been answered definitively.
2. If the media reported it, would it be a violation? No it would not be, but what do you mean - Violation of what? Some code to privacy that doesn’t exist?

The media has not given the reason(s) why. Most assume because Mario and the rest haven’t told anyone or if they did, it was agreed to not say/print anything. The answer the media has given us is that it’s “personal.” Therefore, the media has reported to you the what - Dude missing practice, The Who - Hayden, and the why - it’s personal. You seem to be unsatisfied with that. That’s on you.

You ever knock up a chick and take her to the clinic? Helped a friend who did? Break up with a girl? Had your heart broken? Lost a loved one? Had a family member commit a heinous crime?

Would you like it if the media dug for all the details as to what happened because some internet person named OregonNative really, really, really wanted to know?? Even if they felt obligated and entitled to know because Oregon is a neighbor of Cali?

One more example. There’s a somewhat new thing now called rage baiting (pardon my Gen X *** for butchering some of these terms - laugh away) where a dude or two with cameras “exercise their 1st amendment rights” and film people reacting to asinine and insulting commentary, hoping to catch someone hitting them. Is it illegal to do this for likes and clicks? No. However, it comes with a high likelihood that eventually someone will punch you in the face. Or shoot you. Why? Because they’re acting like azzholes.

If Lowe was in the NFL, would you feel you have a ‘right to know’? The usual refrain to that question has been, well there is a difference between a pro and college athlete. But NIL has not just blurred that line but has obliterated that line. Many college players make more money than their pro counterparts.

I am at a point wherein my position on any such pro v college issue is that I have a right to know as much as I want for any paid athlete, whether pro, college, Olympic, etc…Once you are paid you are not an amateur and I won’t treat you like a “kid”. Now I really don’t care about Lowe’s personal life anymore than I care about pro athletes personal lives. So I don’t care to know what is happening as I choose to only care about those young men actually playing for UM. But the college v pro distinction is completely gone at least for me.

Yes and just to add to that, their actual personal life especially if nothing illegal, I am not saying is what matters. Their ON-FIELD impacts are the information I think should be shared. Its been incredibly vague. We literally have no idea if he is even practicing or not. Is he currently even with the team? Like all we know is he wasn't at the spring game I guess... Is he on campus? Was him not participating the teams/coaches decision or his? **** like that specifically regarding the team and his performance should absolutely be reported on. People saying that should be private imo are truly trippin. I haven't been saying I want to know the intimate details of what he actually did off the field (as long as legal) at is putting him in the doghouse. I think knowing what being in the doghouse entails or what his on field/performance did to put him in the doghouse IS relevant though.

Wasn't it well known that he attended practices but didn't participate?
