Miami athletics returns to Nike in record-setting deal

The deal here is pretty simple, Nike offered more $ just like Adidas offered more $. Adidas could have matched and all reports are we would have kept Adidas. People get waaaaay too emotional over an apparel brand. It's strange. Bottom line is Miami got paid because Nike needs some extra exposure and advertising given their current struggles. They were willing to pay the $.
And it was probably Adidas who needed UM more when that deal was signed. And if it flips again in 10 years then so be it.
Why any adult cares is really beyond me. I can think of about 1000 more important things on a daily basis than which shoe company sponsors the school I cheer for.
This is what happens when you win.

Also why we need to get out of the ACC

You literally have no idea why stock prices go up or down. You might be one of the most business-ignorant posters I've ever seen posting on this board.

1. "because the company is losing money"

2. "isn't making as much money as they projected"

OK, what if you ACCURATELY project that sales and profits will decline due to market conditions and/or competition? You literally don't know ANYTHING about forecasts and projections in a publicly-traded company.

3. "isn't making as much money relative to their competitors"

I read that Adidas had that bad year because of their sudden breakup with Kanye. and that otherwise, it would had had a normal year for adidas.

Damnnn, shout out to the posters that were adamant on this happening

For the record, I was not "adamant" on this not happening. Of all the people who said that adidas was in the pole position, I had the highest "percentage" for Nike doing something.

Ask @Rellyrell . I have frequently texted him to ask if Nike might make a last minute offer based on Miami's improvement in football/hoops.

Ask other posters too. A few months ago, when I mysteriously found brand new "with tags" Nike UM polos on eBay, I discussed my theory with certain people that Nike had prepared samples to present to UM during a presentation. I remembered how the process went when I was at NASCAR and we would entertain companies that had not yet been approved to work with NASCAR.

I've made it clear all along. SEPARATE from my own PERSONAL choice to buy Nike since the late 1970s (yes, I'm old), I clearly remember when our 1987 all-university, all-sports deal was the very first of its kind. And it LEGITIMIZED the University as a major player, even if we were "Independent" and had "only" won a single football championship in 1983. We were coming off the Pedo State Fiasco Bowl and THAT NIKE DEAL gave us life and respect and power.

So for that reason alone, I could care the **** less about the monetary specifics of the Nike deal. We will actually make more annual CASH from the patch deal than we will from the Nike deal. I just wanted UM's legacy back, as the very first all-Nike school. Sure, the money is nice too, but all these younger fans will never be able to understand what the Nike deal meant to UM in 1987.

And that's what I was counting on. In spite of adidas supporting all the Dade County high school programs...and buying Harry from AllCanes a brand new store in the Thesis Hotel...and offering NIL money to our players and recruits...I was hopeful that the folks at Nike would realize what we had, would realize how UM has rebuilt athletics, and that they would realize how powerful the SoFla market is, and the UM brand is as well.

Mission accomplished. Don't ever think that powerful people at UM don't read this board.

Nothing personal, but I don't care if anyone doesn't like this uniform. It's a throwback, we've actually worn it previously. Unlike "Pro Combat" or "Camouflage" or "Miami Nights".
I would love to see a revitalized version. Last year was the perfect time to do it celebrating 100 years.

Thrilled

But of course we switch back to Nike right as it's going in the s#itter

Would it be safe to assume UM requested and received assurances from Nike that they will continue to be supportive of the local community (HS teams, NIL contributions, etc.)? Maybe that's what's included in the "non-cash" portion?

The loyalty 40 year old men have to a clothing brand is bizarre. We get a lot of money from Nike so that’s good. Just keep the look clean and classic. That’s all I care about. Based on our last experience with Nike I’m concerned we will be looking like some G5 program too often.
